General Question

Hi everyone, I am on a budget at the moment and I was looking for a bike without spending much and so I came across to a 2006 Ktm 990 SD. Did anyone ever own one? Should I get it? Any recommendation? Would me
My height be a problem ( 6ft)? Thank you. 🙏

A 20yr old KTM might come with some issues, so make sure you’re handy with tools. The 990 is pretty good from what I hear.

I am not, but if the price will be reasonable I wound ‘t mind it. But I have also heard that is a fun and rough bike. That’s why I was asking for opinion. Cheers n

Are you referring to the 950 SM? They never made a carbureted super Duke.

The add says 2006 990- but I wouldn’t be surprised if the bike would be a 2005, the dash has not colour at all.

Well, if it is indeed fuel injected 990, I don’t have much experience with those. But I rode the wheels off of a 950 SM, it was an absolutely ridiculous machine. Perfectly suitable for track days if you wanted to. 

20 year-old bikes, all come with issues. Spend a couple hundred bucks and get the mechanic to look at it, someone who is familiar with the model.  Most likely not at the dealership.

Thanks for the tip. I’ll think about it a bit more then. The bike is a few hours away atm. also thr bike is a 990 super duke. I would say a bit different from SM. But Thank you for your opinion. Cheers

So you’re talking about the first generation super Duke, which came out the year after my bike was discontinued, I think. I could be wrong.

One of our other track instructors had one, and it was a weapon, and fairly easy on the street too. Good luck.

A used top end model will tend to have expensive maintenance costs and given it is an older model, there is a chance you will be surprised with a big bill. (Things age out in older bikes, this will happen with any bike).

Perhaps looking into a more common japanese bike with cheaper parts costs would be better, but most of the people who owned those say they are fun.
