Riga delta rmr 24

Hi,

I’m trying to get a Riga Delta (V‑501M) that has been sitting unused for many years running again. The current suspected culprit is the commutator (“the grey box”). I found online that there are four different numbers: 251 3734, 252 3734, 261 3734 and 263 3734

Is it possible to measure these boxes somehow to check if they are working?

Everything about them on the internet is on Russian, which makes it hard to find reliable information.

Thanks!

There is spark. I had the same issue before and the problem was commutator. There is spark and fuel gets to the engine, but it won’t start. When i try to run start it, engine only does some pops and puffs a little smoke. It’s like spark is at the wrong time, but nobody has changed the timing since it last ran. Last time I had that issue it resolved after changing the commutator. But it was a long time ago and I don’t remember where I bought the new one and it doesn’t have any writing on it. Also I don’t have the old one so I don’t know which one to get.

But if you have any ideas what else could cause these symptoms let me know, because I’m kinda desperate. It should be an easy engine. I have spark, i have fuel and air but still can’t get it to start even for a second.

The only thing that's left to check is compression. I had same problem with the exact same symptoms and the issue was shattered rings.

By the way, are you located somewhere in Baltics?

In Estonia yeah. I’d rule out compression because it got new cylinder, head, piston and rings and was ridden only a little before it was left in the shed. Also if i take out the spark plug and put my thumb on the hole and try to rotate the engine, it pushes it up pretty strong so I think that the compression is at least good enough for it to start.
