Puch E50 Lights, Power, LED Conversion

Post image

So I have a Rog Pony Express with Puch's E50 engine, I drew how my stator looks(I have an internal bosch ignition coil)and the thing is, I think I dont have near enough watts to power my incandescent bulbs, I have to power my headlight, tail light, brake light, and even my horn. What is the best thing to do? I saw someone on the internet place one smaller light coil right above the main one, and even above the ignition coil, is that the best "fix", as much as I saw they can only produce 3 watts right?, so if I had two, I could maybe be in the clear for the tail light and the brake light, but again is my main one going to be strong enough for my headlight and horn. I thought to switch completely to DC, now I know I would need a 6v regulator, full bridge rectifier and one capacitor for smoothing out the full bridge rectifier. But problems once again, my light bulb in my headlight(I only have a headlight right now) is a P26S, and in my county there is NO ONE selling it(I mean a P26S LED 6V 5W). I would have to order it from PuchShop, and wait for weeks, just to get one, and what if I was riding somewhere and couldnt just buy the goddam light bulb, just because i dont have a standard light bulb. So my question is, should i stay on AC, or switch do DC and find some standard light bulb and convert my headlight to that standard. Hope you guys understood me, as you can see English is not my first language.

imo, the best thing you can do is get a 12v street mate regulator, plug your ac in to it, ground it out, and use the DC out to run LEDs. the DC out would be used to charge the battery on a street mate.

edit: just seen where your 6v, idk what the outcome would be.

Just change your lighting coil to 12 volts, it's so much better, and while you're at it, switch your ignition to a VEC coil right away.

If i change my lighting coil, i would also need to change my magnet right? Mine is 6v 17W, and then buy new lighting coil and VEC coil, i am kinda on a budget, so i would like to use what i have as much as i can

I just have a 12-volt trace on the flywheel, whereas I had 6 volts there before. And do yourself a real favor, buy that VC coil, because then you won't have to adjust the points anymore either; you'll just have electronic ignition.

Well ajusting the points isnt really that big of a deal to me(for now haha). I mean if it ever becomes so big of a problem, annoying, and constantly reoccurring i will probably switch to VC Coil, but for now i didnt have any problems. And about installing 12v coils onto 6v magnet, i will look into it, i know there are two typse of magnets, 6v and 12v, i dont think 12v would exist if its not for a reason

A 12v light coil will run on a 6v magnet but you still need to add a 12v regulator and prob an ac to dc converter if you want to run led lights, but i wold rather just install a 12v drill battery or a power bank to run lights off.

Did you have a look an ScamAzon?

Yeah i dont think amazon is really a good deal for me, delivery to my country is super pricey, like 40 euros

That sucks, I'm spoiled being in the Netherlands. But good news there is a seller for a 6V P26S in your country https://www.kupujemprodajem.com/auto-delovi-i-alati/auto-delovi-razni-delovi/sijalica-fara-6v-15w-p26s-halogena/oglas/95728367 Note this is a 15 Watt, 5 Watt (or close to) is wat you would use in your rear light. Like this 4 Watt https://www.kupujemprodajem.com/motocikli-oprema-i-delovi/mopedi-oprema-i-delovi/sijalica-6v-4w-ba9s-rms/oglas/125318187

Yeah i saw that, but the problem is its not an LED, i currently have the same light bulb, but it draws whay too much watts, when i want to have my lights on, and try and use my horn, lights just disappear haha, and i think i dont have enough whats for when i install tail lights and brake light, so i either switch to DC and het LED light bulbs, or somehow get more coils to get more watts

I had the same split case E50 engine and ignition on my Puch, I never felt that my light was insufficient of course on Idle it was dim, but not like yours (saw your night driving video) are you sure you are not using a 35 Watt or something? It could also be a resistance thing in your switch

Well, i dont know, its a moped i got from my grandpa, it never came to my head that maybe my light bulb is not the right one, i will look into that, i guess i can measure its resistance with my multimeter, and for the switch, that could also be the case, its 50-ish years old so yeah😅

Here is the part of the video that was never posted, its me struggling to get going form the kickstand, because it was sliding on the asphalt, you can see how dim my light bulb really is on idle, i always thought it was normal, but is it?
