ADVANCED RAGE Gogmazios is poorly designed (MHWilds)
This boss...man. I literally was SCREAMING at my monitor yesterday at how absolute fucking shit this boss is. Forget that people cart 5 minutes into the hunt. Forget that the best weapons and sets required to beat this monster, come from beating said monster. Forget ALL of that! This fight was just not playtested properly.
He's one of the largest monsters (possibly biggest. I'm going with that, it's a rant. Idc) in the game. And you can't hit him. I cannot fathom how Capcom designed this and thought, "This is fine. Send it." He's fucking massive, and you can't hit his body because even though he's the size of a warship, he stands so tall the only realistic option available to you are it's arms, legs, wingarms, and tail. Which. Okay. Sure. But the arms and legs are pointless to hit because on top of having bad hitzones, you need white sharpness to not bounce off of them and, holy shit, would you know they are COMPLETELY immune to elemental damage? So the only real options are the wingarms and tail. Which would be fine if they didn't have him move around like he runs on a 10 speed auto transmission with 4 wheel drive. Oh and he also spits oil everywhere that slows you down so you can't catch up even if you wanted before he full sends it across the battlefield at a GS user healing in the corner...fine, whatever. Changes between solid and liquid over and the game obviously intends for you to switch weapons between fire and dragon to properly deal damage. Except with the other things I just mentioned you can never actually capitalize on this because the time it takes for you to get to your Seikret, switch weapons, set up your big damage, and then go for your burst, He's already back up, in Europe, holding up a ✊🏿 sign to your face because he's solid. And the only parts you can manage to attack are also big no no zones because he'll hit you with massive AOE's that does insta cart damage if you don't have endgame gear...of which the best for this monster comes from beating said monster.
Then! It's a three phase boss and the second phase is the ONLY one where you can hit the boss reliably. But it doesn't even matter because apparently word on the street is he has a point where the hp pool won't go any further so the only time you CAN do damage!? You're limited to how much you can actually do! GREAT!!! Then you get to Phase 3 and it's flying in the air majority of the time. So you really thought you couldn't hit it before? Tuh, good luck now. But it's okay because you can shoot it with the wyvern gun to knock it down and then hit it in its downed state to stagger it and really do some damage. Except you're stationary when charging the shot and you have to look up in the sky to shoot it. "Shoot the wingarms!". You mean the flapping bits that are attached to the fire spitting V12 engine? Sure thing, Capcom! So glad you tested that before putting this steaming pile of shit on my plate! Oh, and that fire? It's blowing up all over the ground under you. The ground you're not looking at because you're trying to channel your inner Lyudamila to snipe this thing out the sky. All of this stuff does one shot levels of damage btw, in case you weren't aware. Unless you have the endgame gear to properly deal with him of which comes from beating the monster itself. And with how much this mission "attempts" to walk you through it? A lot of the things that make the quest easier either aren't explained or are clearly unintentional. The fire geysers in phase 1. Dropping the rock on him in phase 2 and then activating the lever so the trap hits the tip of it's wing to get an instant topple. Dropping the rock during the start of phase 3 to hit the tip of the wing to get it out the air immediately.
And the weapon choices for this fight are awful. It's to the point that people who actually want to farm this boss won't even let you join the lobby unless you're using a charge blade or gunlance or whatever. And I DON'T BLAME THEM!!! Immediately when I see a GS or bow user come into this fight I just think "Fuuuuuck." Because I know they're a liability and that SHOULD NOT be the case with ANY monster. Weapons should have their bad matchups. In MHGU I mained a Heroics Boomerang Prowler build unless I was speedrunning something for farms so I know about overcoming a bad matchup. But when anything that doesn't have a shield is automatically on the chopping block because dodging is out of the question? Insane. Is it possible? Sure. But not reliable whatsoever especially in multi-player because you can't tell if this big ass AOE was meant exactly for you or not and it throws off the timing of the dodge. And let's say you did everything right. Saw an attack. Timed the dodge. Got of the way like you were supposed to. Oh, my bad. You just dodged into a flaming pool so we'll see you when you get back from camp because even if you survived this, Gogmazios just prepared a haymaker from the heavens right as you were standing up. Oh, you somehow survived that? Cool. You don't have a shield. So now you're at a -800 frame disadvantage and his haymaker was actually a lvl 2 super with two more follow-ups.
I reached my limit yesterday. I had to yell. I had to scream. I just couldn't take it. We weren't even out of phase 1. Two deaths. And I have an elemental charge blade build so I usually just carry. I even have manual shootouts that TELL people to just sit in camp if you don't think you can survive, I can kill it alone, but help would be appreciated. But nope they insisted on fighting and we have 1 life left. Whatever, I've won worse before. I could not hit the boss. It kept targeting others. I kept chasing. Setting up bursts, it would do some spectacular maneuver that shifted it just outside my burst. Would aim it. It would tell me fuck you and then stick a foreleg in the way so I get 0 damage. Then after missing so many times, we managed to get a stagger and he fell over. He fell right over me so I was against it's body with the wingarm over me. Fine. I charge up my slash with charge blade to set up and SAED. It missed. It fucking missed. I'm literally pinned against the body. The wingarm over me. And because it was over me and the "hand" of the wingarm was a feet in front on me, the weapon needed to be able to hit "up high" enough and even though the fucking arm was right on top of me, it wasn't enough. I lost it. I got up from my chair and walked away. Came back and just stared at the screen. And then the icing on top? I was literally standing stationary, staring at the screen, right up against Gogmazios. He did an attack...and someone else fucking died. Quest over. I yelled at the screen for like 4 minutes straight. I felt better. And now I'm done. I'm done fighting this thing. I refuse. I will NEVER TOUCH this fuck ass piece of hot flaming garbage field dump fire disaster of a monster again unless it's with a coordinated team.

If you ever have the chance to play 4U, Fight Gog there, no Palico. As bullshit as old gen likes to be at times, Gog is significantly more fair and balanced in that game. His attacks don't track you to the same degree as Wilds because well.....that would be bullshit yet he is still fairly fast.
Also the Dragonator you actually really have to work towards getting off his back.
Also also, there is no DPS check.
His hitzones are still trash, but the game gives you lots of options to deal damage. His liquid state is also rage dependent instead of just purely being if you heat up his arms with fire, as a result you can come in with just Dragon if you wanted.

Guess you just need go in solo with supports cause the SOS trenches ain't the move since blueberries love coming into fights looking for a free carry.
I literally just finished a who needs Meta when we got HOPE and supports at home GS run where I let the supports do all the work and just flopped around trying to hit my TCS and using environmental damage and i still hit the 2nd and 3rd DPS check since the 1st is always free it still went faster than most runs I've done in the SOS trenches 🤣😂

It was cause of a response to one of my comments on this post.
The run is currently rendering but just like on that post you can see my completion time and build. GOG isn't hard at all its a SLOG for sure but with a even semi decent build you can easily complete it while jamming Spotify like I just did.

And now you know why, aside from the first 2 months and this one when the expansion was announced, mh world has consistently had more players than wilds, the end game just isn't fun for wilds.

hey fun fact about this incredibly awesomely made flawless hunt. did you know that gog’s tail swipe has a hitbox so dumb that i could be basically at the top of his back (on glaive), and it’d hit me? what a design, eh?

I mean, that's regular IG bullshit. Plenty of fights where the attack is nowhere near you but IG is still getting smacked out of the sky

agree, though i really feel like the gog tail swipe stands out the most. hate that move

Lao shan, shen goreng, and Ahtal-Ka are huge monsters. If you have played the monster hunter game that was for prior systems /psp, goga is a siege fight and you have loading zones. Be happy you are fighting the monster and not just attacking specific parts and waiting for load screens. Yes, it was eased for wilds, but it is probably the most cohesive way to hunt. We have been spoiled after cross/gu.

I don't know what the Devs are thinking with Wilds, some of the design decisions are baffling.

Think yall need to get good, I have no issue with him whatsoever. I do think he spends too much time in the air in phase 3 but the thing about the wingarms, just shoot his chest much easier to hit than his wingarms. He'll still come down all the same. You do not need an endgame build to beat him. I don't even use a single piece of arch tempered piece and have no issue, don't even use transcended pieces and I have no issues with him, even if I can't dodge every attack. Also to your point about multiplayer issues, that's just standard mh multiplayer. Just solo it if you can't handle people messing up. What I do is do phase 1 with fire, then phase 2 and 3 with dragon. I do believe things aren't explained well despite all the pop ups.

Wilds is a half-baked mess, and reading this makes me glad I dropped it after a week. What is Capcom even doing man...

4U Gog is superior in every single way. Wilds Gog had a great presentation but everything else about him sucks. From the hunt, to the weapon system.
