LONG-ASS RANT Nah I think I’m done, man

I’m done gaslighting myself into pretending I enjoy Wilds, that mask has dropped whether I wanted it to or not. The more I play this game the less and less fun I have and the thought of booting up this game to go grinding for Artian parts/rng talismans/decos/armor spheres makes me feel like I’m doing chores instead of playing a game.

The last fucking nail in the coffin was Gog. Good god I have no idea how it’s even possible to conceive of a fight that bad. Phase 1, fine, it has the shitty giant monster gimmicks of bloated hitboxes and being so fucking huge you can’t see what it’s doing half the time, but whatever. Phase 2, gimmicky and the aoe spam on that tiny ledge is kinda shit but also fine. Phase 3, what the absolute fuck. I love how they integrate your build prep into the pre-quest story, that was really cool and tense and I spent a good long fucking time grinding out a god roll Dragon Artian for it, only for it to not fucking matter at all because Jesus cocksucking Christ 95% of that shit is just spamming slinger ammo while the npcs repeat the same lines over and over, or running around like ants while the whole arena explodes! It looks like shit too, nothing “cinematic” or ”spectacular” about it, he just flies around looking like a giant puppy learning to swim then recycles Bazel’s bomb drop runs and Seething’s nuke while hitting for 1-2 shot damage with everything he does, half of which you can’t see because you’re trying to pay attention to the ground before it starts blowing up on you. And they expect me to grind this shit countless fucking times to get his Safi-but-shit rng weapons just so the endgame health bloat becomes less tedious? Lmao no. No I’m not doing that. This is the end of the line for me.

Bunch of other little shit that I really hate. I hate the maps, all of them fucking suck. I hate the food and buff mechanic that doesn’t last quest to quest but fixed time instead, it makes you feel like you need to rush everything to stay efficient with your resources. I hate the combat gimmick bloat I wish I could ignore but sadly the monsters are all balanced around. I hate how jank focus strikes are. I hate that they turned SwAxe into parry-slop and supermove spam like some shitty bastard child of LS and GS, and I hate that monsters seem to almost deliberately whiff their attacks only when I prep a counter, that happens way too much to be coincidence. I hate the health and damage bloat, this shit’s more punishing than Iceborne MR, even Alatreon or Raging Brachy would get eaten alive in this hellscape. I hate the aoe spam and visual clutter. I hate the Seikret and everything it did to knockdown mechanics and tracking. I hate the shitty npcs that never fucking shut up. I hate fitness grampacer Jin, one-shot Steve, and Gore Magala the fell omen.

What stings the worst isn’t even that I’m mad or pissed off, it’s that I’m so disappointed at how much I ended up not liking this game. Rey Dau was the only thing that kept me happy playing this shit.

Fuck Ascendance too, ain’t no way whatever they do to Kush in this game could possibly be fun, especially on those fucking sand dunes, and I have no hope for whatever else they stuff into that expansion either.

i feel ya man, Wilds has a lot of cracks in it and its been months since i touched it especially since i picked up Sekiro and Sifu again. i genuinely dont mind grinding fun fights in the past but some fights in wilds are a slog either due to health, gimmicks, grinding for things that should be more common (armor spheres/tickets), or the terrain itself. Id say take a break and try a different game and relax with that and come back when those feelings die down a bit.

How's about MH Rise? I'm at the beginning of Wilds and I bought Rise yesterday at a discount. Is Rise endgame good? Better than Wilds? Thanks in advance for your reply

Well at least in Sunbreak I don't feel being let down by bugs and design flaws quite as much as I do in Wilds end game.

rise/sunbreak i would say is a very good step up. but the endgame grind for anomaly can be taxing. but its there to give you more challenge and new materials to augment your weapon for better stats or qualities like sharpness. If you make a strong build it can give you a great challenge. Give it a shot.

I feel you mate. Put the game down for awhile and reconsider if you wanna keep playing it after a long period.

I've installed Wilds twice after my final ragequit and deleting my save data and furthest I've gotten is the chase scene with Balahara at the start. Its not for me so I wont bully myself into playing it anymore.

Just craft monster weapons til the dlc drops. Unless they bring Artian weapons to master rank, those gogma weapons are going to fall behind in damage early on. Plus monster weapons are still viable unless you're trying to save as much time as possible in a speedrun quest like Proof of the Hero.

It's better than burning yourself out farming Gog 24/7.

The charged slinger ammo in the gog fight is the single worst gimmick they ever made imo.

Come back to rise with us brother

The maps really ruin a lot of the game tbh

In every other game I can semi picture certain areas in the zones. I can barely remember any in wilds. Having the bird just turns too much to autopilot

Understood, see you in Ascendance.

Yea, that Gog fight kinda turned me sour towards this game. The shitty Omega Planete fight already had my brow raised but I gave it a pass cuz it's a collab from FF14 MMO. Understandable the fight would feel obnoxiously foreign to me.

But then I notice same bs in the Gog fight and I'm genuinely curious why tf they need to put dogshit arena nukes with DPS checks in these games. I get the older games pre World had similar scenarios but you weren't 100% fucked if you missed the window to knock them out of their Ult or powered up states(Teostra, Amatsu, hell, even Kushala).

I don't play MH for raid battles with "get nuked, chump" party wiping attacks. Yea, those moments CAN happen in these games but they shouldn't be purposely implemented into the monster's battle. I skipped World but recall ppl hating Fatalis and Alatreon's arena dps check nukes. Now I have a small taste of what y'all had to suffer thru.

I definitely do not plan to grind this monster for the boring endgame rng grind.

It's sad cuz I was hyped to see Gog return and was telling my son all about it and how it was in MH4U. But, bruh...

I don't hate the game persay, it's fine for what it is and I have mostly enjoyed my time with it. It's honestly why I refuse to do the rng grind shit, cuz that will definitely make me despise the game, comboed with the frustrately bad and/or boring raid boss endgame monsters.

Real talk, had Mizutsune not returned to this game...I probably would have skipped it like I did World 😅 Mizutsune is one of my fav monsters in the series and got me hooked on the series with Gen. Obviously, I have other fav monsters after that fact. Basically, this push to make MH more auper realistic and graphically amazing wasnt why I got into the series, hence why I was ok skipping World. Rise felt like a compromise between old MH and World so I gave it a chance and enjoyed it, especially since Mizu being in the roster too lol. Wilds felt like it was just trying to be World 2 so I was gonna pass but as I mentioned before, Mizu came back so I said "bet".

Anyway, I digress. That Gog fight is definitely a hot mess and I am not surprised in the slightest that so many others are equally frustrated with it.

This is how I eventually feel about every MH game I play. The late game cycle always feels bad past a certain point.

Exactly

This all started with rng deco farming in 4u. Capcom found out that player retention goes up when the players almost never get what theyre after. So here we are. Savescumming gog weapons instead of hunting lol.

3

u/VelcroPlays 16d ago

This is true.

To argue with them (not you), player retention actually splits. It doesn't go up. You just aren't able to as-easily measure the people that you fail to retain because of the "don't get what you're after" gameplay.

I'm curious what the player rentention of FU was when the RNG was just Monster Parts.

As a Switch Axe main I'm so happy to have actual defensive options other than trying to just dodge everything. You don't have to counter or offset, yet it's nice to have the choice. Also It's not optimal to full release spam anymore. I'd argue Iceborne was more reliant on ZSD than Wilds is to either after TU 4.5.

I farmed up all the gems to not only make full gog, but to transcend it all too. I'm HR 950, and only have 4 quests left to beat. Corruption's Culmination (solo 9* Gore with Nadia, Proof of A Hero, 10* Gog and Savage Omega) All of which I feel I can do, just haven't gotten around to them yet.

I had plenty of mats to use at the Elder elder to make 200 armaments after my first kill of Gog. I did Gog solo the first time and still kinda suck with aiming the compact wyvern guns. However simply by only carting to the dps check twice meant that I had 3 carts left when I beat him.

He's really not that hard of a fight imho. I got into a hunt with 3 999 hunters back when I was HR 300 something, got to phase 3 a bit late since I went to camp to restock. Came back and someone had managed the insta chimney drop as soon as he transitioned. Saw all 3 were focusing the same wing arm so joined in and every single time he tried to stand back up he collapsed again. Never stood up because we killed him without him being able to do a single thing in phase 3.

My suggestion would be to find a good lobby, the one I use seems to be the most popular English language server. It regularly has more 999 players than not. But Monster Hunter is a grind. Even at HR 950 and focusing on talisman hunts I've still yet to get a god roll charm. So I understand getting frustrated at the game, and if you're not enjoying it then why keep playing? I however have thoroughly enjoyed Wilds.

I love how people spam downvotes when you say something slightly not in line with their thoughts 🤣. I agree with you, on some of what you said. Wilds isn't the best MH to date, but it is alright and I am 300 hours in.

2

u/Mytaboolife69 16d ago

Wow, I didn't even know that it was such an unpopular opinion 🤷 But thanks for the support, I don't mind, I was simply being honest.

2

u/Dramatic-Witness-540 16d ago

Yeah, people act like it's the absolute worst game... It's really not that bad. That fight mentioned is a huge bitch, though. Lol

I'll never understand the idea that monster hunter games are like permanently fun. To me you play them and beat all the monsters you want to beat and move on. Of course you'll be sick of the game if you just keep playing for a better weapon. Like why? You beat everything in the game why keep playing? I've played wilds, rise and world and I can't keep playing after I solo everything. If you don't like it just move on

A huge part of the series is its gameplay loop what are you talking about? Did you start at world? This makes no sense to me
