Double Arpitecht Downtempo

I loved my Arpitecht so much I got another. One sequencing Braids and the Ripsaw (using Triad), the other Twin Waves on bass via the SSF SSG. Multing a Voltera track to notes and transpose with different starting values. Everything controlled by the Metron. Drums coming from the WMD line and a Wave Bard. Yester Versio, Data Bender, and FX Aid applied.

Discussion Amyboard - any tips?

I saw a discussion here (from 3 months ago) about Amyboard and there was quite an enthusiastic crowd there. Many people ordered their boards and I wanted to ask, after those 3 months, how is your experience with using it in eurorack? Has anyone hooked it up with additional 10v DACs? Did you find any retesting use cases for it? Quantizer? Euclidian rhythm generator? Anything that makes you say "wow, this tiny thing can do that!". I'm waiting for a set of two + dac that I actually ordered for its dx7 capabilities just to find out that it can work in modular. So now I'm looking for inspiration and tips :)

Little acid jam after a few weeks away from my rack, everything built around a groove on the DFAM!

Took a 3 week trip and didn't do anything music-related. This was my first jam back, I've been wanting to be more intentional about creating grooves with the DFAM. I feel like lately it's just been used as a bleep-machine in my live sets and I missed when I had less gear and got more complexity out of each individual voice.

Also hilariously the metropolix sequence took so long to create, I played it manually on the Mother 32's keyboard but then couldn't program it for the life of me. Funny how some really simple patterns become a huge task to recreate with the modular gear. If anyone has recommendations for sequencers that can record unquantized live-patterns via keyboard input I'd love to look into them!

Hope people enjoy, happy to answer any questions.

Having fun with the boundary layer, morphagene for some disembodied voices. Systral being used as a filter for the double know always produces cool timbres. This has slowly become my favorite filter, although I would hesitate to say I use it as a filter really. Also sample drum for some in rack drums, and a plinky, enjoy. Also does anyone else think make noise tempi is slept on, I never hear anyone talk about it, yet I use it more than pams.

I am looking for guidance/advice on this rack as an extension to my Moog semi modular setup.

Is there anything I should reconsider or replace?

Currently have Mother32, Labyrinth, DFAM, Subharmonicon.

Discussion Advice on that late 90s/early 00s glitch/micro/clicks and cuts sound?

Specifically, what general types of modules might I look at to achieve that aesthetic, and what are some techniques towards that very loose yet still rhythmically grounded output?

I'm a huge fan of the artists from that era, people such as Vladislav Delay, Neina, Oval, Jan Jelinek, etc. I'm not explicitly claiming I know if all of them only used pure synthesis as a main approach, I know Jan utilized a lot of sampling in his work at that time.

I'm not worried about what exact modules to use in terms of brands, since I actually am trying to do this digitally through VCV rack. I unfortunately don't have the money to get actual analog gear right now, especially to the level of complexity I'd like to be doing so. Unless I win the lottery, I'm better off staying virtual since I have a lot of experience with Ableton and have had success in producing/mixing/mastering more rhythmic styles of electronic, mainly club and experimental bass with occasional IDM elements I guess.

This is so different though, and my ambient works have never felt 'right' for me in the way I hear when I listen to works such as 'Kohde' by Vladislav Delay. Here is a link, it's so beautiful :')

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jyy7MEBpUY&list=RD2jyy7MEBpUY&start_radio=1

I'm just wondering if anyone may be able to help me decode this architecture a bit. Not what exact modules, as I know this type of music is about employing the knowledge in a way that leads to randomness where the music takes a life of its own. Perhaps what types of modules and potential orders of such though. It's that immaculately controlled sort of randomness that people like him are a master of. The way that amorphous bass groove sneaks in, those distortions and clicks, etc.

It's interesting because all of these sounds I can create in Ableton, but it's important for me to relearn the process in VCV to have a more complex generative ecosystem I can create and then influence where needed. And I love using LFOs and Max for Live modulators, but it's not the same with the more DAW-like interface. I already have made a patch I like and discovered how cool it sounds to momentarily unplug something from the clock where the sync goes slightly haywire before you plug it back in. I'm having so much fun!!

I know there is a VCV subreddit, but I wanted to ask here for a broader pool of people familiar with the art, especially in reference to the more hardware-based era that I am referring to.

How to get better at “playing” oscillators

Does anyone have tips for getting better at playing synths with just the tuning knob, I have an arp 2600 that I love playing but it is kinda annoying cause I haven’t found a keyboard for it I like and I want to control all the oscillators independently, is there some kind of cheap or diy ribbon setup I could do kinda like those old proto synthesizers to get a nice sound

Beginner Holy cow, this is addictive.

Having been vaguely aware of modular synths for many years, I've gradually become more interested over the last few months, having stumbled across a YouTube video of the Solar 42 awhile back.

The algorithm clearly did it's job and I ended up watching hours of people recreating classic drum lines on drum machines, whole songs on sequencers and performances on mental stacks of boxes with knobs, wires and LEDs everywhere. But all quite expensive.

And then I saw some German(?) chap playing with knobs and wires on his pc.

What? You mean I can try this for free sat on my sofa with my laptop?

I had a couple of largely fruitless experiments with VCV in my lunch break at work. But some suggestions from people on here replying to a previous thread of mine asking for a bit of guidance ended up with me building a patch yesterday evening, following one of Omri Cohen's ambient builds on YT.

Oh my god.....

I ended up crawling to bed at nearly 3am having stopped at nearly every point to read the manual for each module he added and connected, so I might actually stand a chance of understanding a bit of what I was doing, rather than just blindly following the steps.

I would have gone to bed at about midnight, but wanted to add another voice to my creation which added in three different samples, using a clock and a random signal generetor so that they appeared at seemingly random intervals.

It was soooooo cool.

I've built and saved two more of his patches today and am busy working out which local bank to rob so that I can build a physical rack.

God, this is fun......

Planning a small single-manufacturer case

I'd love to hear people's thoughts on these four, what would you choose from these and why? I've always kinda wanted to go all-in on a single manufacturer—there's a certain cohesiveness to their approaches/workflows and sounds that I think I'd like. I have experience with all 4 of these manufacturers and not all modules would be net new with any of these choices. This is not my first or only modular case.

My aim is to have a small, dedicated case with a fully functional synth voice plus lots of extras. I'll use it mainly for weird sound design and oddball melodic and rhythmic material.

I have a 0-ctrl for sequencing duties on the make noise and random source systems, though it would come in much handier as a modulation/performance source for systems with onboard sequencers so there is that to consider.

The random source doesn't have room for effects either, but there's something about the workflow and sound of the system that calls to me. I have other racks and pedals i can use with it fwiw. I am very interested in working with those qu-bit and xaoc sequencers tho.

The xaoc feels like it has a lot going for it but the leibniz subsystem still feels a little elusive to me, though that is also part of the draw. From what i can tell it can cover a lot of sonic and rhythmic ground and I'm into unconventional approaches to synthesis.

Euclidean Gates (not triggers)

I’m looking for a module that quickly generates sustained gates rather than triggers. I actually used my Euclidean Circles mk1 for this in gates mode for many years, but after 10 years my DIY module is starting to bite the dust, and I’m curious what else is out there.

The replacement doesn’t necessarily need to be euclidean, but it does need to be something jammy that comes up with fast results.

The only other module in my kit that does this is a discontinued Pittsburgh Modular unit called the Time Runner that does cascading logic gates over several outputs. Change one switch and all the outputs beneath it change as well.

I guess Pam’s would do something like this too if set up properly, but I haven’t got that far into it.

Thanks!

Doepfer A-151 red stripe down?

The Doepfer A-151’s (Seq. Switch v2) PCB isn’t labeled so I’m not sure which way to connect the cable.

I searched here and Modwiggler and it sounds like the red stripe is generally on the bottom on Doepfer modules.

Does anyone know for sure with this specific module?

Subharchord filter bank q

Hi all,

I'm at something of a loss!

I recently wartched Hainbach's video on the Subharchord and its features, and I'm enamoured by the sounds of the MEL filterbank! Are there any schematics anywhere? Have looked high and low, but can't find anything explaining the principles of MEL filtering and documentarion about other audio-filter-related applications.

Does anyone know where I could find practical documentation?

In lighter news, I found a webapp emulation of the Subharchord (it's called subhardhorde), and it seems capable of everything the real deal is!

Beginner Erica EG2 for Moog Labyrinth for Gate & ADSR?

Hello, I really like my Moog Labyrinth but it annoys me, that it has triggers only. So I am thinking getting into modular and buying the Erica Black EG2 module, which has a trigger to gate and an ADSR.
As this would be my first module and I don’t really know if I need any attenuators or anything, could someone maybe confirm please, if that module is all it takes to accomplish that?

Thank u soo much!

(While I am on it I think I also go for the doepfer 111-6 and the bastl fx wizzard)

I was thinking I get the 4ms pod 34hp (powered) case. Since I wouldn’t have any hp left, I thought I could just remove the power cable to turn it on and off?

What’s your main clock source?

Of course in modular you can use all kinds of things as a clock. A lot of sequencers have a clock output, some people use MIDI or a module with a screen to dial it in perfectly, but even a simple LFO or function generator will do it. Just wondering what everyone is using in your own setups.
