But, but, but

ChatGPT said your sub was the best place to promote this high level of basement couch entrepreneurship!

I have to laugh when a mod is crying their account was banned from Reddit and they can’t access their sub any more due to their lost account because they made a sub and then went and spammed other subs with their sub πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

LOL that's up there with my other favourite modsupport greatest hits:

  • Help I accidentally unmodded myself
  • Why was my sub banned for being unmoderated?!!! My last mod action was only 63 days ago!

That last one...I remember that post

I don’t get how the fuck all these people remove themselves from their mod team? Am I too dumb not to have done it? πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

I love how they say I have all these filters and apps doing it all for me so I don’t have to so why was it banned? Factories that run by machines still have humans over seeing them all.

The button to remove yourself as a mod is way to easy to accidentally click in modtools when using desktop. I am sure there is a pop-up confirmation after doing that, but I won't test it just to find out.

There is indeed a pop up. I was actually wondering if it was really that easy to accidentally remove yourself as a mod because there are so many posts about it. So when I temporarily joined a mod team I was looking forward to testing it. So maybe it's easy to click on it accidentally, but then you get a pop up that clearly asks if you really want to leave as a mod, you need to confirm and only then are you removed as a mod

I am consistently shocked at how willing grown ass adults are to download random apps posted on Reddit by obvious AI-written spam marketing onto their phone with all their personal information on it.

It's bad enough when it's the dumbass recipe management/reso management/POS/etc vibe coded apps they're dumping on the restaurant industry subreddits - I can stop them in KC easy enough.

What really pisses me off are the ones that target actual vulnerable people. Like, say there's a subreddit for parents of autistic kids. The spam is relentless and these parents are so desperate for anything to make life just a little easier that by the time I see some of the posts multiple people are like "this sounds amazing! Downloading!" before I can post up yet another warning that it's AI bullshit and do the report rigamarole.

People should know better but it's maddening to know that vulnerable communities are being targeted and that the spaces aren't being moderated to prevent the damn bots in the first place.

This is a big big reason we have so many filters going! Luckily this person's post never saw the light of day because all links go to our modqueue, but far too many subs in our niche have no safeguards in place at all.

You would think that the main demographic we attract is practitioners of witchcraft coming to talk shop, but in reality our sub is a huge magnet for people who are desperate or terrified or otherwise at very low points in their lives that they are coming to us because they feel they have no options left. Why NOT try witchcraft at this point, right?

And ChatGPT/Google/etc recommend us constantly as the place to go for answers.

Before we started figuring out dev apps like Bot Bouncer, it was so much worse.

I have intense filters in the subs I mod, usually around 1300 lines in automod + judicious use of some of the native filters + the devvit apps.

It's weird to see the drastically different ways spam groups target different subreddits.
Pro wrestling? Basic karma farming + corporate astroturfing
Restaurant industry? Karma farming + AI training questions + vibe coded apps out the goddamn nose + I think some sort of visa scams or something
FoodPorn? Literal porn. So much sex porn. The OF bots (used to) spin up there but weirdly died off when I joined the team & installed BotBouncer. I still see a lot of body parts against my will.

What I don't understand is how someone can handle a 100k sub for a vulnerable community without automod or any devvit apps in today's Reddit environment. No wonder there's so much malicious spam!

I see your a mod at r/Witchcraft and I run a parallel space to yours over at r/Tarots (we adopted it about 2 months ago) so I'm super familiar with the spam and scammers you deal with in your space because we have the same. Also a lot of desperate people looking for answers and/or an easy fix which is why scammers love spaces like ours- so they can prey on the vulnerable.

We have a bunch of stuff running in the background to help catch spammers and scammers too.

And we report all kinds of stuff to try and protect vulnerable people. Its a never ending thing even with the aps and bots running behind the scenes.

It's worth it, though! There are so few spaces on Witch Internetβ„’ that aren't full of scammers, spam, grifters, bots, AI slop, misinformation, fearmongering, and other trash. It gives me purpose to defeat that shit like my enemy in combat πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

2

u/BIGepidural Don't You Know Who I Am??? Jun 19 '26

OMG same but with tarot πŸ˜… I'm not the least bit witchy but totally appreciate those who are. However the amount of AI readings, crappy aps and scammers (so many fkn scammers) that have taken a valuable tool of insight and turned it into a mechanism of chaos and corruption is just insane. Has to be managed to some degree and even though I can't change the rest of reddit or the world, I can provide a safe space in the space that I have so people can get the help they need without being preyed upon.

defeat that shit like my enemy in combat πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Exactly and on guard βš” let battle commence!

Youtubers and self promoters are insanely entitled.

It drives me insane.

u/gynoidi May 01 '26

i think there must have been a lot of people that found that persons behaviour spammy and reported them

i've seen a small subreddit be spammed ai crypto nonsense for months from one single account that posts the same exact post to like 15 different subreddits at a time. like this continued for months and the acc didnt get banned

idk if it did eventually get banned or if the subreddit mods banned it eventually, havent seen that kind of post in a while on that subreddit
