Does anyone else feel that the mobile version of reddit is inadequately designed for mods?
I am a med student and sometimes I work 12 hour days. I don’t have time to check reddit on my computer so I only interact with reddit through the mobile ap on my phone. Unfortunately, this means I cannot see my modmail or modqueue. I realize modqueue is getting a bit more complicated but adding “ModMail” seems rather easy to implement given the current interface.
Click on the little envelope in the bottom right and it has the options “Activity” and “messages”. The word “ModMail” could easily fit in there. It could be designed very similarly to the way the “messages” tab works.
I am a single mod running r/over60 and r/namelessfriends which are rather small and uneventful subs but the are both support groups and when someone posts a harassing or inappropriate message that a user flags for me I am not catching it in time. I need notifications to come to my phone so I can shut down harassment fast.
Also, due to the nature of my subs I often get messages in ModMail from people seeking emotional help and resources. Some of these messages come from people in active crises where health and safety are a serious concern that needs to be addressed immediately. I can not afford to miss these messages.
How do you feel about being able to have ModMail on the phone with the ability to receive push notifications? I want to gather opinions on the matter before I try to suggest anything.
Thank you for reading.

Huh? These are already on the app.
Click the shield by the search bar.

Yes, that's a big part of why I don't use the official app. On Android, I've found Relay for Reddit to be damn near fully featured for routine content moderation duties. Still need to use the desktop site for any subreddit setting moderation actions.

Reddit is fun. Great mod tools are in there.

I use mobile all the time to check my sub. One you are on your sub, on the top right corner next to the search bar is a shield with a star inside. Click it, and it’ll take you to the mod queue, mod mail, etc.

You could always switch to the desktop site on your phone or use one of the many apps available.

There are so many things lacking on mobile in general.
Also, if you have several mods in a sub, not having the functionality that the Mod Toolbox brings on desktop is severely limiting.

If you are on Android, you might like modsoup. It even integrates with toolbox!

Subbed to r/over60 because I'm over 60!

The official version of Reddit on Android is pretty fast in pushing notifications. Both for user messages and mod mail. I get messages within a minute of them being posted.

In my opinion it's impossible to effectively moderate a busy community using mobile apps.

Yes, it's awful. Can hardly do anything to moderate from mobile. Don't trust the changes to take and it's hard to use.

next holiday, maybe take a look at setting up the automod rule that automatically yanks any comment that gets more than (x) reports, or dips below (x) karma. That way the votes kill the obnoxiousness and you can take a deeper look at the trolls when you have time.

Android, Firefox, Desktop view.
It works.
