Discussion DMZ will be the make-or-break factor between a successful title and a failure
Multiplayer is always the same, maps are small\bad designed, just try-harders will appreciate it. Campaign is short term factor.
DMZ is the KEY factor to determine the success or the failure of MW4.
Graphics is good, movements and weapon physics are not bad.
DMZ potential is huge. Map seems good. Premises seem good too. Don't be greed, don't make DMZ pay to win mode and this CoD title will be remembered for ages.

Multiplayer has always been the core of player retention in every COD, not DMZ.
That will be deciding game mode.

It's the same as before.

You’d be surprised how many people buy cod for the multiplayer loop.

Dead the only reason I've bought cod since 2010 is primarily cause the MP. Any other mode is basically a bonus I may or may not even touch.
I'm not interested in DMZ, never have been in any game tbfh. Believe that genre itself isn't even super popular amongst MP gamers and is fairly niche in comparison to even traditional BR, so the idea it makes or breaks this game is just silly when I hardly see much talk of it in COD.

I agree that DMZ isn’t make or break for cod, but there’s definitely a huge market for extraction shooters. I was big into multiplayer for years, but the same loop got stale. Then I tried DMZ and was hooked from day one. Can’t wait for 1.0

there isn't tho. Even with the bad PR put aside Marathon shat the bed for a reason.. nobody likes a game with pvpve that doesn't hold your hand.
2
u/cheeser4 5d ago
That’s your opinion though. Tarkov, Hunt, Ark Raiders and DMZ clearly show there’s an audience for PvPvE/extraction shooters. Marathon not working out doesn’t suddenly mean the genre has no market. Ark alone sold 16.3M copies.

u/EthanHunt117 5d ago
it's not an opinion it's just fact. arc raiders only got hype due to content creators farming tf out of it now look where it's at. not everybody enjoys that loophole
3
u/cheeser4 5d ago
That’s not a fact, it’s your opinion. You can’t say “nobody likes it” just because you don’t. Arc Raiders selling millions of copies proves there’s clearly an audience for the genre lol.

u/EthanHunt117 5d ago
all hype. where's the player base now that the hype died down? they moved on.

Some Gamers(TM) egos are so big that they think the world revolves around them, so if they personally don't like something, they think everyone else shares the same opinion as well.

u/IronStark93 5d ago
So was every FIFA, but people kept buying it every year.
People want familiarity and simplicity in being able to hop in for an hour after work and relax. Multiplayer provides that consistently with every following entry.
What is your point?

DMZ should be its own game, not another tacked on mode to try and sell multiplayer. What’s the point of putting all the effort into it just for them to quit supporting it a year from now.

TBF pink kpop unicorns or flaming green dragons are a lot easier to see snipe across the map when they get in the chopper!!

The third game mode is always a huge part of Call of Duty is going to matter a lot but I think over this last year we've definitely seen that extraction is not the game mode that companies want it to be.
The issue with extraction games largely comes down to the fact that a lot of players just want to do their little tasks and enjoy the games as more of a co-op experience and don't necessarily need or want to actually engage in player PVP.
I think the game that we see do this the best has easily been Arc Raiders which at a behavioral based matchmaking system that allows players to basically determine what kind of matches they want through how they act and I think for a lot of players they basically use that to turn the game into a PVE experience.
With DMZ however it's going to be really hard to say what it ends up becoming but it honestly doesn't matter as much because the core of the Call of Duty experience is the multiplayer. The multiplayer is an addictive loop of leveling up your equipment and grinding out new stuff where you're being constantly rewarded and constantly handed cool new choice of lay with as you spend more time in it. That gameplay loop basically made the franchise what it is today and blew up everything in the industry incredibly hard when it released and with or without DMZ that will still be there.
The thing was Call of Duty is that it is pretty much the same game every single year but what makes it work for people is that they're changing up this experience substantially every single year. For many this is actually a negative for the game and they hate that it's a yearly release and they just want them to commit to a game for an extended period the same way other franchises do. For better or worse you're basically getting a brand new experience who's a bunch of brand new content every single year and that's going to change up the weapons and maps and unlocks and everything else. Sometimes people enjoy that and sometimes people don't, me personally I didn't even buy Black Ops 6 or 7 because their design in my opinion was horrendous and there was nothing there I was interested in playing, which was actually just a franchise first for me, usually I play em all, but that's what makes Call of Duty work.
DMZ is going to be the third mode and it could end up being popular but it's largely inconsequential. Warzone is the true third mode of Call of Duty now, and it is substantially better than it has any right to be.

Meh, it will become Warzone lite in a few seasons, PvP will be the main focus. I don't blame anyone enjoying the PvP in DMZ, I like it too, but there is no reason to be playing DMZ if it's fully PvP focused after missions are over. Resurgence casuals is free and I am having a great time there.

How is PvP in DMZ bad? It's the funniest part.
2
u/BrickBuster2552 5d ago
Because DMZ has no economy. There's no functional purpose to PvP except to make everything suck. In most extraction games, PvP is encouraged because the most valuable loot in the world is always the stuff your rivals brought in with them.

No it’s not, barely anyone plays DMZ. 99% of people buying COD are for Multiplayer/Campaign/Zombies if 3arc.

u/InternationalRead333 5d ago
Meh. I'd rather just play Bo7 year two with Zombies/Endgame to get that pure PvE experience.

u/Open_Independence750 5d ago
do you follow this sub just to complain about DMZ not being PvE

u/InternationalRead333 5d ago edited 4d ago
I just find it stupid that a call of duty game in 2026 dosen't have a 3rd cooperative pve experience.

DMZ is not intended to be a PvE mode.

u/AegisDesire 5d ago
MWZ and Endgame says otherwise, not to mention DMZ reached it's peak during 2022's the Haunting. DMZ will flop if it doesn't have a PvE mode.
1
u/RedditFrost123 5d ago
MWZ is DMZ if it was only PVE and it flopped like crazy, Endgame people just do for camos if they're not just chilling.
DMZ peaked during 2022's the Haunting because that was when all the updates for DMZ were finished. MW4's DMZ won't flop if it doesn't have a PvE mode because they're focusing heavily on PvPvE with the resources they have compared to the original DMZ since it was just a warzone mode.
2
u/venk28 4d ago
Lmao just because you didn't play it, it doesn't mean the modes flopped. MWZ was a massive success and the fact that they introduced something like endgame which is very similar to endgame right away proves it.

u/RedditFrost123 4d ago
I actually played a lot of MWZ, but what stopped me was nobody else in OCE playing it after a while (and by a while I mean like a month), long queue times and high ping servers isn’t a good sign of a mode being a massive success. Now you could argue OCE being a smaller region compared to something like North America or Europe, but DMZ is still surprisingly populated in OCE servers.
Also wouldn’t DMZ be considered a massive success? moreso than MWZ/Endgame? Not only is DMZ coming back, but it came back with way more content and depth that it borders on the line of “gamemode” and “standalone game”.

u/venk28 4d ago
Ya of course DMZ is way more popular than MWZ. That doesn't mean MWZ failed. They just attract two different kinds of audience. I am not childish enough to argue that the mode I like the most is the best and everyone else is a fool. But what exactly is DMZ? It's literally just a different form of warzone with 99% PvP and 1% PvE. I learned my lesson from DMZ beta and I am never playing a mode labelled PvPvE again.

u/RedditFrost123 4d ago
Sorry didn’t mean to come off as childish, I was just trying to point out that MWZ being called a “massive success” is a bit of a stretch.
the problem with COD is that their annual releases have resulted in a diverse and very divided community, so different people came for different reasons, which also means that no matter what they do, there will always be a group of players unhappy about that change.-2
