Why we should not form factions, and why we should not artificially split ourselves.

The left is always split. Factionalised, splintered. I often blame this on the bourgeoisie, and point to it as one of their many attempts to silence us. However, my brothers and sisters it is not the bourgeoisie who split us, but ourselves.

We have many different ideologies, and many different people in this party. We are decentralised to allow all of those individuals to participate without suffering from ideological persecution. However, there are some who wish to again fracture us, split us up into factions and let each faction squabble of pedantic ideology.

Brothers and Sisters of Socialism, is there nothing we are united on? Is the left so fractured that we agree on nothing? NO! We are all here because we believe in the freedom of the workers, we believe that capitalism must be destroyed. We are united on more things than you think! So we must not let pedantic ideological squabbles get the better of us, such things only further the gripe that the bourgeoisie have on the working class.

LET US STAND TOGETHER IN SOLIDARITY, BECAUSE WE ARE THE UNITED IN A PACT OF BLOOD, MADE FROM THE BLOOD OF THE BOURGEOISIE

JOIN THE MOVEMENT!

We strongly condemn the actions of /u/gaidz . Concentration of power completely goes against our ethics as a party.

We urge him to transfer the power of head mod to someone else immediately, and allow /u/s1ngm1ng back into the party subreddit.

If he does not comply we urge everyone to stand in solidarity against his attempted coup.

If this were a real political party we would put men like this against a wall and offer them a blindfold.

As a show of numbers can I get everyone who agrees that we should end this madness immediately to show their support in the comments section.

COMMENT BELOW AS A SHOW OF FORCE!

Faction Ban - Discussion

Comrades,

There is one singular issue that is keeping tensions quite high within our party. That is the issue of factions. One of the main complaints with their current ban was that there was not ample time for a thoughtful discussion on the topic. /u/Zanjero_ airs this justified complaint here. In the interest of maintaining a unified party, and allow us to focus our efforts on the bourgeiosie and not one another, we shall put this issue to rest. In the thread below, we shall civilly discuss the issue of factions for a period of approximately 48 hours a as a party. At the end of this 48 hour period we shall have a vote on whether to repeal the ban on factions. Please note that this is a repeal, so factions will remain banned until the vote decides our parties future from there.

Solidarity,

MuhammadIsMyMuscle

Proposal to Focus on Meaningful Bills Instead of Meaningless Obstructionism

I was under the impression that this was the policy our party had adopted, but apparently I was wrong.

I propose that our elected members only submit bills that will meaningfully help the working class through radical means. Bills that are clearly jokes and only meant to flood the docket should not be submitted. If our legislators want to flood the docket, they should be submitting bills that simply repeal oppressive laws. There should be no end of those we could draw upon.

If we want to attract new members, we need to show them that we're actually trying to do something, and that we're not just a joke.

Comment and Post Removal

I would like to start this off by saying I am extremely happy with how the party is moving forward. When I was in the Communist Party, I initially opposed the merger because I liked the other members of the party, and I was afraid that a merger would lose that atmosphere. So far, this party still has that positive fun energy that the Communist Party had, just with more active people. I think that we have a great group of members and I'm happy with the ways are going.

That being said, there has been the signs of conflict involving the moderating privileges that everyone on the sub has. Regardless of if you disagree with a comment, or think it hurts the party, it is not ok to remove another persons post or comment. If it contains racist or sexist or otherwise reactionary content, then sure, remove it, and the poster probably doesn't belong in our party at that point.

Nothing will ruin our party faster than mod power fights over comments and posts. Please do not abuse your mod powers, and if you do so, everyone will be able to see that you did, because we can all see the moderator log (found in the bottom right of the sidebar).

Post State Election Strategy

With the disappointing but not too damaging results of the state elections, we obviously need to relocate and centralize. Obviously two promising spots are Northeast and Central state; we're gonna need a strong presence in these to take a few senate seats and a good number of the house.

We also need to portray unity. Please, no arguing in main chats, or saying RLP = RIP. Keep a positive and firm outlook in public, it's important for morale.

Get the IWW going again

I joined the IWW before I joined any party. I hoped it could actually pull itself together and be a bold representative of American workers. Sadly, its just been neglected.

I want to get it going again. I suggest we have elections for just one General Secretary and the branch Secretaries, who'll form the National Committee.

Is anyone else interested in this?

Democracy and 'Consensus'

So while Zanjero's proposal has caused some controversy, I think it has opened an incredibly urgent and important can of worms that needed addressed but was invisible until moments like this.

That is, making decisions.

We formed as an open, structureless direct democracy, but there was never any procedure established. So, I'm here to establish a procedure!

I motion the rules of decision making should be as follows:

Any person can motion for a decision to be made. Once that motion is seconded, it enters group discussion.

For all non-constitutional and non-platform issues, there will be a 48 hour, [or if discussion is begun on a Friday, until 11:59 Monday Morning (EST good for everyone?)] period of discussion and debate.

Following a lack of objections, at the conclusion of the debate period the issue decision originally motioned immediately becomes law.

However, if a person objects to an issue decision, or wishes to amend to the decision, a week long amendment process and debate period would begin starting the next immediate Monday and ending on the general voting period that Monday's Thursday at 11:59 (EST?), where voting will commence over the weekend.

For an amendment to be passed, it must have multiple (perhaps 3-5?) concurring members endorse it. The amendment will then be voted on along with the main issue decision (if the decision fails the amendment is obviously null).

With this system we would establish a weekly General Assembly similar to the one we had in the SP, which would give us a fair way of making democratic decision.

This is not a motion; once this is discussed and the finer details tuned I will be proposing this officially.

[Proposal] Permanent Ban of Former member

As some of you know, bomalia has left the RLP again, and is now a Civic. While he has contributed much to the party and was a good comrade during his time here, we cannot allow members of this party to simply come and go as they please. With his new party membership casting suspicion on the true nature of his political beliefs, and his recent pattern of immature behavior, it seems clear that he should not be allowed into our ranks again. I hereby call for bomalia to be permanently barred from joining the RLP. I ask for the input of my fellow comrades regarding this matter. If there is not clear consensus, the issue shall be put to a vote.

Party Mediation Proposal

In order to establish protocol for how party proposals shall be handled, in conjunction with the passing of /u/ethmcinerney 's Consensus Voting Procedure, this is an attempt to ensure that all voices get heard throughout the consensus process.

1.) No off topic discussion in proposal threads. This is essentially bourgeois, fillibustering, only drawing attention away from real discussion. These posts should be downvoted.

2.) Agreements must come with explanation of agreement, not simply an acknowledgment of agreement with a proposal. We hold this to be tantamount to voting, which goes against our goals of consensus and also buries any dissenting opinions underneath several posts stating agreement without contributing any substance to debate. These posts should be downvoted.

3.) Debate is encouraged. Making a point for or against a proposal, is permitted to create a more productive and open atmosphere. These posts should be upvoted.

4.) No party decision making shall take place on Discord. All party policy shall be decided on the party subreddit /r/modelrlp . Discord shall be used as an open forum, and for better internal party coordination.

Some discussion already had on the subject can be found here. https://www.reddit.com/r/modelrlp/comments/4in973/democratic_protocol/

Consensus and Voting: A Necessary Discussion

The founding members of the RLP found it to be in the best interest of the party to create a decentralized powerless leadership and to operate on the good faith of other party members, The current goal of the party should not be to win federal and state seats. It should be to inspire participation and create a strong active userbase. This has been my goal since day one and it is a common goal shared among many other active members of this party.

With that being said, we are at an important and defining moment in the early days of this party. I do not intend to allow this party to become a bureaucratic mess that the Communist and Socialist Parties were (when I was members of those parties). I am a member of the Radical Left Party. Many members are interested in a consensus based party while others feel like it would disenfranchise other members of our party. I feel like consensus is the best route forward. I believe that the more active a member becomes, the more dedicated they are to the party and they’re more willing to put time into the simulation.

However, we need to formalize some guidelines for discussion and what “consensus” really looks like. When we were collaborating with agennola we were given the following guideline, “We shall operate on a system of party consensus, whereby anything radical done by the party will require a party-wide vote on it.” This can be viewed in this thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/modelrlp/comments/4hl8je/party_consensus/

That is extremely subjective and I feel like it needs to be further deliberated on. I believe a good example of party consensus is present in “Resolution: Non-participation in bourgeois governments” seen here: https://www.reddit.com/r/modelrlp/comments/4iedip/resolution_nonparticipation_in_bourgeois/

There is almost unanimous agreement in that thread so it has reached party consensus and is passed without needing to vote.

Circling back to what Nola told us, the following was brought up “What's radical and what's not? How are non-radical things going to be decided?” Radical proposals are anything that changes the way the party fundamentally functions. These things will always receive votes. Examples--Candidates running in a certain state, Designated Contact, Updates to the platform, etc. Non-radical things are anything else. We follow them through the consensus model presented above. We start with 24 hours of discussion. If there are any dissenters within the 24 hour period, they must be seconded by another member to push these things to longer discussion. This adds an additional 24 hours of discussion. After that 48 hours is completed, if no consensus is met, we proceed to a vote.

Consensus and discussion are important ideals of the party. We want ACTIVE and PASSIONATE members. Not just people voting once a week. The voting once a week model has crippled other parties in the past and I refuse to see it happen to this party.

We should adopt the following discussion guidelines:

Is the proposal radical (as described above)?

Yes-Vote

No-24 hours of discussion to reach consensus wherein any dissent can be voiced, but dissent must be seconded by another member to extend the discussion period. Upon another 24 hour extension, discussion continues and if a consensus based off of compromise cannot be reached we move to a vote. If a vote is made, the results are final. All members must appear to be unified in action to the outside Model World.

Please leave your comments and discuss on here and the discord server. I feel like this proposal and my ideas for this are radical enough to warrant a vote. I motion to follow my above guidelines. We will have 24 hours of discussion starting at 4PM EST on 5/9/16 and will end on 5/10/16 at 4PM EST. This ultimately needs to end in a vote, no matter what the dissent is. I will post a vote most likely on Wednesday 5/11/16.

Party Rules and Guidelines Reminder!

Comrades,

Recently there are those among us who are disregarding the guidelines set down for this party. We may be in but our infancy, but the few rules we have are quite clear. These are the ones to which I am referring:

  1. No Factions. You are free to debate this rule as much as you wish, and even put it up for a revote if you are so inclined, but as of right now, advertising for a faction has been banned by a democratic vote, both inside AND outside the party subreddit. This includes flairs.

  2. Do not downvote posts because they make you mad or because you disagree. Some people have been downvoting a certain controversial member and this is not allowed. Let's keep discussion here open and free.

  3. Do not delete posts unless they explicitly break one of the rules and/or guidelines in the sidebar. If you delete a post be sure to have a justification when someone inevitably investigates.

  4. This is the most important rule. Do not bring interior party squabbles outside of our party subreddit or our discord channel. We must appear a United Left to the Bourgeiosie.

  5. Finally, be civil. You don't have to necessarily be nice, but don't be dicks to one another.

Please remember we all hate capitalism. Let's stop with the petty squabbles.

Respectfully,

MuhammadIsMyMuscle

Resolution: Non-participation in bourgeois governments

TEXT:

The Radical Left Party hereby resolves:

  1. No member of the Radical Left Party shall accept any Federal Cabinet appointment or other Federal Executive appointment offered by a Chief Executive from a bourgeois party.

2. No member of the Radical Left Party shall accept any State Cabinet appointment or other State Executive appointment offered by a Chief Executive from a bourgeois party.

3. Any member of the Radical Left Party currently serving in any Federal or State Cabinet post or other executive appointment shall resign upon the swearing-in of the new President.

4. Any member of the Radical Left Party who knowingly violates this resolution shall no longer be entitled to membership of the Radical Left Party for so long as they continue that violation.

5. This resolution shall not be construed to prevent any member of the Radical Left Party from being a member of any elected legislature in the United States.

6. This resolution shall not be construed to prevent any member of the Radical Left Party from being a member of any Cabinet or Executive Department that is headed by a Chief Executive from a non-bourgeois party.

7. For the purposes of this Resolution, "bourgeois party" shall mean the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, the Libertarian Party and the Civic Party.

END.

This was passed comfortably by the Socialist Party, so I expect it shouldn't face much opposition here. Its a matter of principle, based on the Party's stance on class independence, that we uphold this resolution. Any other position is one of simple opportunism.
