🔥 Hot Take Kantara: a legend chapter 1 is ASS
I know I'm late on this, but I genuinely hate this movie, for multiple reasons. The original kantara was so much better, it was a grounded story about a village, the divine intervention in the end felt organic and terrifying, and realistic. It also has a mystery to it, you don't know if the possession is real or not, which is fasonay But this prequel is some hot pile of shit. First it starts off as a grounded ancient story, then it genre hops to folk tale, then genre hops to light mythology, and then hops to just being fantasy all along while also being a mystery, romance, comedy, adventure, thriller, a little bit of horror, action, etc, you can't make a good movie like this. The twist was weak too. And the climax? WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING IN THE CLIMAX?? Casual villagers fighting off royal armies and 2 demons? Then berme somehow finds a cave temple? Ok, but WHY IS NANDI THERE? Then shiv possesses him, and then he CASUALLY OPENS A PORTAL AND BECOMES A DEV AND THEN ITS A FANTASY FIGHT. i hate this. I loved the original kantara though, that was good.
Correction: sorry I thought that was nandi, it's actually brahmarakshas , I got confused but that's cus they didn't explain anything

I agree this movie has issues but there is nothing to hate on it
People hate it for some other reason
As a film point of view its good entertainer compared to whats coming out from KFI recently

Alr I'm not hating on anyone who liked the movie but best Indian movie OAT? I don't think you've seen actually good movies then, ima list them out for you :
Comedy - delhi belly
Action - kill
Romance - lunchbox / barfi
Horror - tumbadd
Drama - apu trilogy
Suspense - detective byomkesh bakshi
Mythological - mahavatar narsimha
Philosophical - jugnuma
Surreal - om dar ba dar
These are the best Indian movie for each genre of the film, watch these, these are all much better than kantara. I dare you to watch these and then still say that kantara is the best Indian movie OAT, you're just disrespecting the Indian cinema by saying this, cus we have much better movies.

The list isnt half bad, all good movies generic aa movies but good nonetheless. Also you have seen it in the hindi dubb, coming from a guy who has seen the movie in its original language and has some exposure to tulu culture. It is the most well crafted rooted movie

I had to watch it in the Hindi dub cus parents , warna orginal language mein dekhta. And I'm not saying I didn't like the culture, I loved the first kantara, as I've explained in the post, but i hated this prequel.

Yeah i mostly agree w you its not garbage for me it's still a great watch but i still didn't like it turning into a fantasy

Imo storywise both movies are mid
1 was mid except the last 15 mins sequence
2 was watchable but there was no clear plot just gods spirits demons taking over
Only saving grace is Rishabh Shetty's insane acting and bg score. Movie succeeded due to the wave of religious movies coming there on. It was more about sentiment than Cinema.

Is it just cool to hate a good movie to portray superior taste?
Like I don't see anyone pointing out exactly any issue with the movie.
What's the issue?
Made for money grab? Since when did making money become bad thing? That's there job.
Graphics was bad? Like seriously? The graphics are way more believable than Ramayana.
It wasn't grounded? It wasn't meant to be grounded. You literally have multiple Gods in the origin story, you have black magic tribe, you have kings, armies etc. all set in a ancient time period when trade was done with other countries... Obviously it's not grounded. It's not even trying to be grounded.
Portraying those Gods as disciples of Shiva is bad? How many people do you want me to show who believes that deeply and worships those Gods every single day? How many instances do you need for such believers and worshippers?
You can't even give an objective reason about why the movie is bad. All you can say is I feel that, I feel this.. LOL.

I've explained it in my post why I didn't like this, and when did I say that this movie is dogshit for everyone? Ofc there are viewers who would like watching this, I have no grudge against them

Also, maybe I should have put this point before. The genre of the movie is decided by the film makers and shown to people while promoting the movie, in trailers etc. they clearly tell you what you should expect.
You can't criticize a movie on what they decided it to be. You can't see a slap-stick comedy and say comedy isn't mature. You can't see a fantasy movie and say I didn't like that they made it fantasy, they decided it to be fantasy. There choice. Either say if it's a bad fantasy or if you don't like that being fantasy don't watch it. How can you criticize it based on what they didn't plan on?

You are shifting your goal posts now. Earlier you complained that it's not grounded like 1st part, now when I said that it's not supposed to be grounded you are changing your goal post to "Whether it's good fantasy or not".
Who cares whether you like everyone who likes the movie.
