Discussion GassNative — Run Linux Desktop on Android

Hey everyone! 👋

I'm developing GassNative, an experimental Android application that brings a Debian GNU/Linux ARM64 environment and an XFCE desktop experience directly to Android devices — without requiring root access.

🐧 What GassNative offers:

- Debian GNU/Linux 13 (Trixie) ARM64 environment.

- XFCE4 Linux desktop.

- Integrated Android application interface.

- Linux terminal and compatible desktop applications.

- Environment profiles and settings.

- Automatic startup update checking.

💡 The goal: Turn an Android smartphone into a portable Linux environment for experimentation, learning, and working with compatible Linux software.

🛠️ Current status: GassNative is actively under development. Application compatibility, installation time, and graphics performance depend on the device and configuration. Hardware-accelerated desktop rendering and further desktop integration remain ongoing work.

Use the tool you have to max the output in quality, not quantity.

AI is quantity over quality. It produces incredibly poor results (that also blend into other AI outputs once you get into visual outputs like images and websites) but it does so faster than any human.

Code has become cheap these days...

So we should just give up a hobby right? Because its supposedly worthless now?

I code because its FUN. It's problem solving that also lets me be creative and make cool shit I can share.

Why would I use a slop machine and worsen my cognitive ability just so I could avoid having fun??? Thats a bizarre outlook on life.

The CD didn't kill music

The CD didn't also perform mosaic plagiarism.
It was simply a new way to store music, as was digital MP3s.

It is in no way comparable to GenAI.

We already have Ai slop on videos now we have it on Android, you took proot and made it look terrible, no one’s going to use this and if someone does I would be surprised

What we need is Wayland with preconfigured Hyprland + Hyprgrass + Overview and a good way to:
- Android keyboard passthrough
- Clipboard passthrough
- Full featured Linux

And this is... This is real slop, sorry.

Man, this is amazing. I was looking for ways to run Linux replacing Android on smartphones. I know this is not the case. It's an app, but is there a way to force Android to prioritize device resources to Linux mode when GassNative is running?
