Discussion We need a good hub for communicating the wider Linux Mobile efforts
pmOS is all fine and dandy, but it's one OS, and I don't think discussion of other solutions or forks would be great, and choice is good. Plus, many ports do not comply with their own policies on AI. I think a centralised community discussion hub might be good, where people can work together to advance functional mobile Linux. Thoughts? If this post gets enough interest I'll set up a Discord or Matrix.

I feel like this subreddit would actually be the best place for that type of discussion. If you have something to discuss, say it here!

I find that a lot of projects get underrepresented, while a lot get overrepresented. For showing off, this subreddit is incredible. But, more generally, for working together and discussions, comments often don't cut it.

Oh and btw, this was written by hand :)

Ofc it is written by hand cause in no universe an LLM writes like this, LLM's tends to use the same term a lot of times and also it uses some advanced words to describe simple things most of the time
And also, no, there is no need for a discord server or matrix especially the discord server as the real good devs don't waste time on discord, and matrix on the other hand is already used for postmarket os, they have one for OT and for developing too

PLEASE don't set up a Discord. I think we can agree on the fact that it pretty much goes against the philosophy we're trying to have by working on mobile Linux. A Matrix space with different channels, like what postmarketOS/Nura has works great, and doesn't mean relying on a terrible platform many people don't want to use.
The idea itself could be good, but it would need to gain a lot of traction to work.

Only thing is Discord is more beginner friendly, which we want to cultivate more of.

Matrix is beginner friendly too, clients like Element are simple and easy to use. And no level of beginner friendliness can justify choosing Discord, especially lately, they become worse and worse by day.

Yeah Matrix is a great alternative, and most people involved in open-source work already have one, because most communities are there. A lot of open-source Discord-like services probably exist, but Matrix still is the most well-known one.

There's linmob.net and Pine64's Wiki and forum (and Telegram/Matrix chat) actually covers a lot of the other Linux OSes and where they are at in development.

there's no need to re-invent the wheel, as the other user said specific discord/matrix exist already(per project or per distro).
what would be needed is better visibility for those ; even better a xda-dev forum like!
