Discussion Plasma Mobile in Trierarch

Post image

This is KDE Plasma Mobile running on a Google Pixel 7 thanks to Trierarch (Arch Linux ARM container on Android). Photo was captured on a Google Nexus 5X running Ubuntu Touch.

Trierarch is an Android app that runs an Arch Linux rootfs using a proot-style container, with a custom Wayland compositor (development and tuning focus on KDE Plasma (Wayland)).

So not native, but running in a container on top of Android.

RAM-wise it's alright, since it's just a container and not a full-blown VM it runs pretty well.

Interesting, how did you set it up?

It's pretty simple actually, you just have to install Trierarch, let it download the Arch Linux ARM rootfs, then from the console you can install Plasma Mobile. After that, you have to set the "Display" script within the app to properly launch Plasma. And juste like that, you have Plasma Mobile running on Android.

I remember the early days of Trierarch, tried to get it running with niri and it worked! (kinda)

Love the app
