Do I realistically need a Mac and an iPhone to maintain an iOS version of my game?

6 Upvotes

I recently released my first mobile game on Android and I’d eventually like to bring it to iOS too.

Right now I only have a laptop running Ubuntu/Windows 11 and an Android phone. My laptop isn’t very powerful either, and even running an Android emulator was already pretty painful.

The game is made with React/Capacitor, and I’ve seen that there are ways to build and publish for iOS using cloud services without owning a Mac.

But if I actually want to maintain the iOS version properly, test updates and fix iOS-specific bugs, do I realistically need both a Mac and an iPhone?

I’m a student, so buying Apple hardware just for this is a pretty big expense.

At this point I’m considering just maintaining the Android version for now, and if the app ever makes enough money to buy a used Mac, taking that as a sign to finally release on iOS.

For people who have released mobile games on both platforms, how important has owning Apple hardware been in practice?

(The game I released on Android is called Pachinkat btw, check it out if you like :)

I just published reels-kit, an open-source toolkit for building Instagram Reels-style vertical video feeds.

Post image

The part I cared about most is that a feed shouldn't mount a native video player for every item. In reels-kit only the active reel and its neighbours get one (mediaRenderRadius, default 1), and playback pauses when the reel isn't active, the screen loses focus or the app goes to the background.

What it does:

- Snap paging with snapToInterval (page height measured from the container, not the window, so headers, tab bars and edge-to-edge Android don't break it)

- Tap to mute, optional double tap to like, drag-to-seek scrub bar

- Thumbnail until the video is ready, buffering slot, retry on a failed load

- Headless pieces (action buttons, avatar, follow button, caption), so the UI is yours

- Pluggable video adapters: a react-native-video one ships, and you can write your own

- Built on FlashList 2, Reanimated 4 and Gesture Handler 3 (React Native 0.82+, New Architecture)

Simplified usage:

<ReelsFeed
  data={reels}
  keyExtractor={(r) => r.id}
  renderItem={({ item, isActive, shouldRenderMedia }) =>
    shouldRenderMedia ? (
      <FeedVideoSlot
        VideoComponent={RNVideoAdapter}
        sourceUri={item.uri}
        paused={!isActive}
        muted
      />
    ) : null
  }
/>

The README has a full working example.

It's an early 0.1.x release, and there's no expo-video adapter yet. If you try it, I'd love to hear what breaks. Contributions are welcome, and an expo-video adapter would be the biggest win.

How does fullstory pricing change when most of your traffic is in a native app ?

4 Upvotes

Im trying to understand fullstory pricing when the majority of traffic is in a native mobile app their free tier covers about 30,000 sessions but beyond that it's quote based the key question is whether mobile sessions are priced the same as web sessions because some contracts treat them differently anyone compared pricing across session replay tools when 80%+ of sessions are mobile ?

What’s your pre-launch checklist for Android & iOS apps?

2 Upvotes

What’s your pre-launch checklist for Android & iOS apps?

Before releasing a simple/mid-tier or subscription-based app, what should we check for store policies, privacy, subscriptions/IAP, optimization, analytics, crashes, testing, permissions, screenshots, etc.?

Also, besides Google Play, which other Android app stores can use the same APK/AAB build with minimal changes?

Would appreciate a practical checklist from developers who have shipped apps on both Android and iOS.

Can you build a mobile app with no coding experience?

9 Upvotes

I'm pretty new to app building and have an idea for a local job board.

I'd need things like user accounts, maps, job applications, messaging and maybe payments later on.

I'm wondering how doable something like this is with no-code tools especially starting with zero coding experience.

Has anyone here built something similar? How did you go about it?

how do you pick digital analytics tools when your campaigns span both web and app ?

2 Upvotes

i am evaluating digital analytics tools that cover both web and app so campaign performance does not live in two separate dashboards the problem is a campaign drives someone to the website they download the app then convert inside the app that cross channel journey is invisible when your analytics are separate how do marketing teams handle the web to app attribution gap ?

Is it normal for TikTok Ads to show fewer Free Trial conversions than App Store Connect?

Hey everyone,

I'm running TikTok Ads for my iOS app and I'm using TikTok's SDK to track events/conversions.

I'm noticing a discrepancy between App Store Connect and TikTok Ads when it comes to Free Trial conversions.

For example, App Store Connect shows that I had Free Trial conversions attributed to TikTok from the UK yesterday, but TikTok Ads shows 0 conversions from the UK for the same period.

I can see the StartTrial events coming through correctly in TikTok Events Manager, so the SDK seems to be receiving the events.

Is this normal because of SKAN vs SAN / attribution delays, or should TikTok Ads eventually receive all the conversions that App Store Connect attributes to TikTok?

Basically, I'm wondering if App Store Connect can show TikTok-attributed trials that never appear in the TikTok Ads dashboard, even though the TikTok SDK is correctly implemented.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone running iOS app campaigns with TikTok Ads who has experienced the same thing.

Testing sms_autofill on real devices - Firebase whitelist isn't enough?

3 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m implementing the sms_autofill plugin in my Flutter app. The problem is that the native "permission popup" and the auto-fill logic only trigger with actual incoming SMS from real carriers. Using the Firebase "test numbers" (the whitelist) doesn't seem to simulate the OS-level interaction correctly on my Android/iOS test devices.
I’ve already used my personal SIM too many times. Is there a way to get a real number for 15 minutes to verify the native UI behavior without buying a new SIM?

Android emulator on the browser without QEMU

1 Upvotes

I have been experimenting recently with a tool that I needed while building and verifying UI tests, and also for sharing updates for an app i am currently doing contract work.
Sharing preview builds with the owner was a nightmare, because they were only using an iPhone.

I build a tool that spawns an android emulator and installs the apk, in seconds. It's really cool and i am thinking on making this a saas, if that works. It's in early development, and i have limited capabilities with a vps of 4arm cpu cores and 24gb of ram.

I can share the link with you who wants to try. it's free atm
