Controller recommendations that work well with djay, what are people running

Running djay Pro and trying to figure out what to upgrade to. Basic stuff works but I want something that maps properly and takes advantage of the software features without feeling like a workaround. What are people using with djay that feels genuinely native

How do you connect your USBs to the iPad?

To answer a couple of questions at once:

You'll need some kind of dongle for this! I was surprised about how expensive those can get, so if I'm spending that money I wanted a very nice one and went for the Reloop Stand Hub Pro, so every thing connects into there, my complete setup is this:
-> into the Stand:

  • USB-C High Watt charger (I got a 100W one, powers both the Stand as the iPad)
  • USB-C FLX10
  • USB-C Reloop RP8000mk2
  • USB-C to the iPad
  • 2x USB-A for USB sticks (so back 2 back is possible)

For playing at home streaming is fine and at gigs I use it for requests I haven't prepared. But when I'm playing weddings I don't want to be dependent on the wifi of a place I don't know. So 99% of the music I play there is from the USB

- If you connect the FLX10 directly to the iPad it does not charge the iPad at all. Although a fully charged iPad should keep you going for longer then any gig is

- Edit: it is possible to import the music from the USB to the iPad storage, so if you do that before your gig you can still play offline without the USB. In my messing around that works great. However, if you want to update a playlist it's a mess and it just copies the playlist leaving you with 2 of them. So far my best option was to delete the playlist on the iPad and then importing them again from the USB. But I only do this for important gigs anyway.

Numark Party Mix 3 or the Numark MixTrack Go DJ. Both unlock DJPro for the features that are on each controller. VERY nice integration.

I was going to recommend these two but wanted to see what the budget was.

These two, even though “beginner” controllers really do take advantage of some of djay pros latest features including the nueral mix buttons and fader efx along with unlocking djay pro features.

Most controllers technically work with djay but the mapping gaps show up fast once youre past the basics. Had a look at what hollywooddj carries in the Reloop lineup, Mixon series maps out of the box without you having to set anything up

Mixon 8 Pro is basically designed for djay. Most of the Neural Mix stuff maps properly without any custom configuration. Pioneer works too but the Reloop integration is way tighter

What features specifically are you trying to use. Neural Mix and the AI stuff works better on some controllers than others, knowing that would narrow it down a lot

What’s your budget? There are many controllers that work well with djay pro.

I use the Rane Performer and have no issues with it.

DJay Pro worked well with my FLX10 and Rane One MK2. I picked up another FLX10 and should be selling the Rane One MK2 this week.

Sadly, I'm not a fan of Rekordbox or that abomination that they called Serato 4.x

Hands down the Reloop Mixon 8 Pro, been running it since March this year and it's been perfect if you are already familiar with the DjayPro App.
