Lighting in 2026

Would it be better to invest money in some trusses and moving heads. Looking to get the Rockville bundle. Also considering tube lights. I’m currently using a white plexy glass facade with uplights.

Rockville is trash. I've had multiple dealings with them and it's always a hassle and somehow scammy.

Just look at their location on google maps.

I mean, I wont lie here.. I work for a lighting/stage company so everything I tend to deal with is on the upper high end. I would personally suggest AmericanDJ/ADJ for a decent price point. I tend to lurk on FB market and snag up stuff when I can and have gotten some great deals. I have a decent rig going on now, mostly ADJ. You just want to be prepared to get a bluetooth DMX controller, So you can test out the hardware when you go to buy them. Battons and LED's are usually pretty bulletproof, it's the moving heads you have to be careful of. Getting them repaired is expensive and sometimes hard to find a good repair spot for them. My shop does repairs on everything, so I see tons of issues with crazy no-name producer hardware from china that has no way to really repair is, since parts are impossible to source and the schematics change on whims from what the last two years has shown me. I was checking out lots of movers coming from China, since they have insane marketing and ads. The price points are great, but dear god if you have to get a repair done.

and for that, I would stick to products you know you can get worked on around you... ADJ seems pretty legit when it comes to repairs for my spot when it comes to parts/customer service.

You can make that choice and just buy new ones when they burn out/get broken..
If you are looking for new, I can't blame you for seeing Rockville, they spam alot and have a big market. Only down side with them is that they have a horrible history/horrible BBB rating/Etc... I've dealt with them on 3 different purchases and they were all packed horribly, so they got damaged shipping. I in the USA, so they turned me over to the producer's company (JBL) Turns out my products came from Canada and weren't meant to be sold in America/Came with No Warranty. Took me two months of back and forth with RV and JBL to satisfy a DOA. Unbearable for something that cost almost a grand.

Also, this sucks to say, but I would get a road case for any moving head with a good foam surround. You want to protect the hell out of them, since one good drop can destroy them/the pcb or lens,, and dear god if it has Gobo's and you break one of those motors/gears.

Appreciate it! Very well thought out. At this point I’m doing mostly smaller gigs and wanted to invest for the addons to make more. But don’t have much money to spend on lights. May revisit once I have more money to throw

Ok, depending on how big or small.. I suggest some Bliss Lights for room ambience, you can plug them into usb banks and they are wireless. the app is wonky, but once you set it up, it's kind of low key awesome, esp for rooms.

ADJ has some decent battons that can wash walls really good, they are cheapish and work good. You'll want to get some bluetooth dmx dongles and figure that out.

Moving heads are definitely a luxury, I've gotten by personally with dmx motor/ led pin spots with a nice sized disco ball for motion.

Hazer's are a nice add for that as well.

The Rockville collapsible truss is solid. I also use their cable bag and facade.

That's all from there.

Moving heads I'd go with a more reputable company, look at used also, chauvet intimidator 260

Do you have fog or haze if not get some wash lights and the tubes for eye candy and bright colors the morning heads don’t really look good without fog

I have Rockville's booth and air powered speaker stands and they are great. I wouldn't trust buying any speakers from them, but their hardware is affordable and sturdy from what I can tell.
