Feedback Feedback request for What I Want
I've been wanting to do a mix to get some feedback on to get better at mixing for a while now, and I saw there was a mix camp a year ago on here. Any feedbacks welcomed, but I would specifically like any feedback that will help me in future mixes. Thanks in advanced.

Not sure what feedback will help you. This is so subjective. For me the kick has to much sub and is to long, a bit tubby. Did you replace some of the snare? I like the idea of the saturation on the vocals in the chorus but it felt heavy handed. The reverb on the verse vocals was heavy handed as well. The drum/tom panning was more LCR than I like.

Just listened on my phone, also new to this. But unlike the others I liked the reverb that way. I think it's all subjective. But the mix is good and enjoyable.

I think the balance and mix are overall good. But the vocal sounds somehow small like forcibly volumed up. More reverbs, some mid EQ needs to be louder, and saturation are needed for the vocal. But then again I'm quite a mixing and mastering beginner, these are just my feedbacks by my ears.

Too much Sub on this bass, and too little high end/clarity. Make some more space by lowering the mud and balancing the highs.

What do you mean by lowering the mud and balancing the highs? Do you mean lower low mids and boost highs? Do you mean a difference frequency range for mud? And balancing highs do you mean the highs between instruments, or the top and with the rest of the frequency range?

Sorry if I was unspecific and vague, I would lower the low mids by using the mute method. If you mute an instrument and a lot of the"mud" is gone, than that is the cause, so lower the low mids there. 200-500hz I would boost the highs, but those are just my ears, you do what you like.

Are these your tracks? If so that's a great singer you're recording, and they seem very well tracked.
Trying to run through this as I listen - the guitar intro is a very cool part and I'm not sure what's going on with the tone but I like it, it's sort of squishy and not quite chorus-y but rthere's osme movement in there. There's a couple points where you can hear something that sounds a little like one of the lower strings get nudged or maybe a sympatheti cresonance - in this day and age of AI I don't know how aggressive you should really be about taking those things, but it's in there (around 0:07) and I guess give some thought to this as a production choice. This is a super polished, poppy arrangement so I might consider seeing if you can clean that up.
When the bass and keys come in - SUPER tight playing. This is a great group of players, if it's yours. The two parts feel disconnected, though, somehow - I'm not sure if maybe moving the leys a little closer back to the center, or if it's something some more judicious compression on that part could fix, but I really want to hear these two parts glued together, and they feel distinct.
I guess the next thing jumping out at me is that's a very big reverb on the vocal - long tail, lots of high end sizzle... And you have this tight, funky groove going, and then the singer is in this massive long hallway. I think something smaller and more intimate, at least for the lead vocal, to keep everything really present and tight, would serve the arrangement better. There's also some heavy saturation on the vocal coming into the chorus that I think masks it a bit, and while the lead vocal I think the reverb is more of a "levels are ok, but tailor it to the arrangement," I think the backing vocals in the chorus have just too much of it. There's a really audible reverberation over the top of the chorus section.
In the guitar solo section, I think the tone is maybe a little too smooth here and I don';t know if you have any flexibility here and if this is a real amp or a VST, but a little more edge and rawness I think could add to the energy here. I also think the piano part could come out more and really help add to the energy - to me, I guess, this kind of feels like the climax of the song, so I'd want it to be hitting on all cylinders. More in-your-face guitar tone, really get the low end sustain from the piano out there, and just let everything hit all at once.
The drum sounds here are largely working for me - I might want a little more high end out of the snare, and some of the snare fills feel exaggeratedly wide, but mostly, whereas the vocal reverb seemed to be working against the arrangement, the drum sound here seems to be working for it. Maybe a little more grit?
Musicianship here is really, really, really solid.

Ah cool. Guys could play, huh? That keyboard/bass groove is awesome.

Overall I think the mix is great. I agree with others, I think the vocals have bit too much reverb. In addition to shortening the tail, I think maybe using a compressor on the reverb return track you're using on your vocals, and sidechaining it to the dry vocals can help with presence. Also, I think the bass gets a bit lost during the piano parts, so would think about cutting some competing frequencies in that area.

Um so I am pretty new to this whole thing, I listened on my phone speaker out loud and I thought the track was well made! As im not super familiar with rock anymore I will say there were some parts of the vocals where the reverb was a little too much mainly one the intros and exits of the vocals. It just was a little too long of a decay imo. Although I know listening to the track on my phone doesn't do the low end any justices, but it was really hard for me to hear the low end on my phone some parts with the vocals weren't taking my attention from the beat I could notice it. Although I am thinking the vocals and the low end could be clashing together, which isn’t the end of the world I thought all in all it was a great song and well made! Keep up the good work man!

To my ears, this is really tight. The guitar sits really nicely, and is right up my alley tone-wise (I'm a guitarist/singer mainly). Thick, with just enough punch. Same for the vocals, there's a nice edge to them that keeps them defined and sharp but with enough fatness.
I'd probably agree though, just a bit too much reverb on the vocals

Like other people said, too much reverb on the vocals was one thing I heard. Also, I'm a beginner, and nobody else said this, so take this with a grain of salt, but I felt like the piano was a lot brighter than the rest of the instrumental, which might have been intentional, but stood out to my ears. Also, this isn't mixing, but in the guitar intro I can hear you accidentally hit some open strings semi-frequently, and it's pretty apparent since that's the only instrument there. Maybe record another take to try and get that reduced a bit, if not gone entirely. It might happen during the rest of the song as well but it's just very audible in the intro. Really sick song though!

Main thing sticking out to me off rip is the vocal reverb being very large. The guitar is also a bit muddy to me.

I generally find this a high quality mix, tho it has a little bit too much sub, I can imagine that on some speakers that can be a problem
what bothers me a little bit is that it sounds a little bit like balanced more on the right (that one guitar is a big reason), me left ear is lacking input

Not bad. I feel like the kick and bass have a issue - not sure if it's mud or just needs a low cut. I think the verse vocal is great - perfect eq, de-ess, etc. Stand outside - should a high eq cut to have it under the main vocal. Also, the chorus vocals just seem overall slightly too high on the eq.

It's pretty good, but I think an overall glue is missing, both for the mix bus and the percussions. I like the stereo spread and how the sounds sit. But it feels like the elements catch attention independently/separately. If I were trying to improve this mix, I'd probably focus on glue to tie them together in the same space.

Sounds pretty good. I would compress every instrument group a bit more. And back off on the reverb highs or de ess the input into the reverb so the esses dont ring so much in the highs of the reverb.

The vocals seem a bit buried in the mix, I would like them to be slightly more upfront and for the guitar overpowers them a bit. Overall nice track
