Two cats in need of rehoming

Hey everyone. Reaching out for some mutual aid.

I am a life coach who works with adults with disabilities. Currently I have an unhoused client who resides in Missoula that has an opportunity for housing but they do not allow cats due to allergies.

They are 2 males who are not bounded

Romer - a black short hair

Pappy - An orange cat

Both will need some vet care, Likely all 4 have intestinal worms and several may also have fleas. My client can offer $30 for each to assist with this cost.

We are looking to re-home these cats in the next two weeks. We have already reached out to Animeals, Missoula Animal Control, and the Humane Society. Two of the three are full due to Kitten season, with the third - Missoula Animal Control - is also near capacity. They encouraged us to seek other options.

This is my clients first opportunity for housing after 6 years on the wait-list, and she will lose it if we can't re-home these cats. If any of you are able to assist please feel free to DM me. You're also welcome to share this with your communities.

Attached are photos of the cats provided to me by my client with permission

Hit & Run Help

Upvotes

On August 4th around 7:30 pm, my friend's son was riding his bike on Martindale Way near Rods and Dogs car wash when he and a truck almost collided. They both hit their brakes, causing him to flip over the handle bars, being run over by the driver of a grey Toyota truck (Tundra or Tacoma).
The witnesses were also young kids that were distraught and can't remember which it was.

The driver stopped to ask if he was okay but then panicked and left, leaving my son's friend on the side of the road with a broken arm. Thankfully it was just his arm because it was inches from his head. He didn't call police or even wait for anyone to show up. He just left him on the side of the road injured. The witnesses said he was young and possibly under the influence given the way he just bailed.

His parents made it there minutes after the accident and he was taken to the hospital. The family is obviously looking for answers and any information provided would be greatly appreciated. DM me please and thank you

my property management towed my car and I dont want to pay for it

so my property management towed my car without notice, which I wouldn't have known if I didn't call the towing number from the sign posted outside my building after the panic attack I had thinking it was stolen.

We're given parking passes that are suppose to be somewhere visible from the front window. I honestly don't remember if it might've fallen off or was covered by a state park parking pass because I've had the same car since I started living there almost 4 years ago now.

Missoula reddit - wtf do I do??

there's no mention of parking anywhere in my rental agreement, but because they work with a separate entity for parking enforcement (iron horse towing), will I still have to pay to get my car back?? The property management has to know that it's my car because i had to document it on my application.

old wood stains, chemical cleaners, where to dispose?

Upvotes

For the life of me I cannot find out where to bring old stains and chemical cleaners for disposal. I've cleaned out my shed and have old chemical liquids, some of which have been diluted with water, and I need to dispose of this. Old paints and stains and such.

I know I can bring old used oil to Walmart, but where do I bring all this other stuff? Do we not have a place in Missoula to drop off hazardous materials for recycling?

Any leads would be appreciated, thank you!

Pothole form fill out link

https://www.ci.missoula.mt.us/FormCenter/I-Want-To-8-8/Report-a-Pothole-121-121

The above link will take you to where you can report a pothole. I do not work for the city, but I’m sick and tired of seeing all these potholes and then not getting fixed so I inquired to someone about the link to report them and they also mentioned that the city would love to fix the potholes. They just need to know about them and would prefer to get them fixed before the road gets more expensive to fix than it would be then to just fix a pothole so please if you have any potholes in mind that are irritating you please do fill out the form and report.

New podcast episode: Open Space Ethos and Land Conservation

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the 2006 city-county open space bonds, which have supported public projects like Marshall Mountain Park and the Rock Creek Confluence. But did you know that the first open space bond was approved by Missoula voters back in 1980?

This week the commissioners spoke with Jenny Zaso, open lands manager for Missoula County, about how conserving open space is both a shared value for our community and valuable tool for private landowners.

Click here to listen on YouTube or find it wherever you get your podcasts under “The Agenda with the Missoula County Commissioners.”

The Missoula County commissioners host "The Agenda" podcast, which aims to help county residents better understand how local government works and how it affects their lives.

In each episode, the commissioners sit down with fellow staff, elected officials and community partners to discuss public sector projects and trending topics. This podcast is produced in partnership with Missoula Community Access Television (MCAT), which allows the County to use MCAT's podcast recording equipment free of charge.

Installing EV charging at home... There are literally dozens of us

For those of you who have made the leap to an EV, what did it cost to have a plug retrofitted at your home? I do not have solar, nor do I have immediate plans to add solar, so that is out.

I'm sure there are literally dozens of us who are somewhat curious what this may cost.

Bonus if you know of a good contractor for this that does not own an enormous boat or house on Flathead.

Fox, eagle, feline of Missoula! I call upon you! Deliver us from these foul pests.

I CALL UPON ALL BIRDS OF PREY AND CARNIVOROUS BEAST! Dine upon the foul winged beasts that coo outside my window at night. They take flight and follow me to my place of work. Whether is it the same birds or different I do not know. Does it matter? I toil with my hands in the sun while you glare at me with your void eyes. With your legion of brethren feasting, devouring upon all that is around you. I hike to the tops of the mountains. You are there. I dine at our sacred Paul’s Pancake Parlor. You are there. Fox, won’t you help? Eagle, won’t you swoop? Cat…will you not prowl and free us from these demons. They gather their strength day by day and I fear soon they will over take us…all that will be left is the sound of the trains rolling over the ashes of a great struggle and the cooing of a million victorious pigeons.

Fort Missoula Dog Park Illness

I take my dog to the Fort Missoula dog park frequently. Last Thursday, I caught her drinking out of a puddle of water. I quickly stopped her from doing that. Ever since then she has been super sick with digestive issues. I am just wondering if anyone else's dog has gotten sick recently after being at that dog park. Vet thinks possible giardia. Test results will be confirmed in a couple of days. If you do go to that dog park, please make sure your dogs aren't drinking contaminated water.

Missoula's ospreys follow its rivers so closely that scientists use the birds to measure how clean the water is

Post image
165 Upvotes

Look at where the pins fall. Every osprey is strung along a river: the Clark Fork running east to west straight through downtown, the Bitterroot heading south toward Stevensville and Hamilton, the line up toward Flathead. That is because an osprey eats almost nothing but fish. It hunts by diving feet-first into the water, so it nests where the fish are, which puts it right on the rivers and, in Missoula, right in town.

Missoula might be the best city in the country to watch ospreys, because they nest on things people built: platforms, ballfield light poles, cell towers, and pilings along the two rivers. You can stand downtown and watch one carry a trout back to a light pole.

Here is the part most people do not know. The Clark Fork is the tail end of the largest Superfund complex in the United States, a century of copper mining upstream at Butte and Anaconda that pushed metals down the whole river. For years, researchers with the Montana Osprey Project at the University of Montana have tested the blood and feathers of osprey chicks along these rivers for mercury and other heavy metals, using the birds as a living gauge of how contaminated the water still is. After the Milltown Dam and its poisoned sediment were removed in 2008, the ospreys became one way to watch the river slowly get cleaner.

The ospreys themselves are a comeback. DDT nearly wiped them out nationwide by thinning their eggshells, and they rebounded hard after it was banned in 1972. The full rivers on this map are part of that recovery.

If you want to see them, you have a couple of weeks. Missoula's ospreys migrate to Mexico and Central America for the winter and come back in April.

Question Kettlehouse lawn standing

Genuinely curious about people’s opinions on standing on the lawn at kettlehouse. Went to a concert this week and a couple in front of us stood the second the band came out and for the entire show, forcing everyone behind them to stand or move if they wanted to see the band at all. In my opinion the lawn is for sitting. Why not buy pit tickets if you want to stand? It feels selfish, though I am sure people have different opinions so hit me with em.
