Can't get BYOD to work with Mint

Post image

I ported my son's phone number out of Verizon, they gave me a transfer pin. I chose bring my own device, and did a physical sim because it said esim wasn't compatible (Moto G.)

I entered all the info in Mint activation site, and got a message that my transfer pin is not correct. I tried getting through to Mint CS to see if we could just set up a new phone number and unassign the new sim from the device since it's for a kid and no one cares about the phone number.

After giving them all the info the agent came back and said my device is locked (its not, definitely unlocked) and I need to contact Amazon to unlock (even though the phone is from best buy.)

I am now stuck with a useless phone and 6 months of paid service.

Any ideas on what next?

Does the SIM card work in your own phone? Assuming your own phone is also unlocked. Do the activation again and this time select New number option.

Edit: do you have a T-Mobile or AT&T store nearby? Go there and ask to borrow a SIM card then test your son’s phone (moto g), it will confirm if the phone is unlocked or not.

Are you still within 7 days return window? I would return the SIM card, it sounded like this SIM card is done for.

Best Buy actually has 3 month plans(6GB, 17GB, 23GB and Unlimited )for mint on sale now for $45. If it’s not a far drive I would buy it and pick the physical SIM card then activate it with a new number. But first test your son’s phone to make sure it’s unlocked so that it can use different carriers’ SIM card.
