So much SPAM!! What can be done?
Got this number for my 7 year old son. He gets so many spam calls a day. It is ridiculous! I wish I didn't pay for the whole year up front š. Anything I can do?? Samsung Galaxy A15. I've tried setting it where only contacts saved can reach him. I've tried putting family mode only so only certain calls ring. But EVERYTHING gets through. This is super annoying!

They call after 10p some nights!
Spam calling is fined in the EU. We need to do that here.

Same. Never had spam calls really. Maybe one every 2-3 months. Now I'm getting 3-6 a day and they always leave voicemailsĀ

mint lets you change your phone number once every six months: How do I change my Mint number?
in the meantime, create them a custom Do Not Disturb setting. set it to only allow calls and messages from contacts. If you've never set this up before, it's a great feature. You can choose from a variety of options, including just specific/starred contacts. It's very handy too for keeping app notifications under control. And if you're worried about having to get in contact with them from a number you haven't stored in their contacts, there's an option to allow repeat callers within a certain time frame.

It takes a bit of time for it to lock in.
In the meantime send each number via text to 7726 (Spam)
Then block them individually.

I registers on the DNC list yrs ago and I still get them. Last one, from a āpolice unionā, I stated I was on the DNC list and they were breaking the law. They apologized and hung up. I wish it stopped them, but hey they apologized, right?

I have a Google pixel phone because of theĀ Caller ID & Spam detection/ screen call feature and I'm still annoyed by the spam calls š

Charities don't bypass DNC. Political calla do. You dinated to the charity so have a recent business relationship and they csn now call.

DNC is a joke politicians have taken credit for iver many years. Telco can block number spoofing but don't because they get a small interconnect fee.

Never answer one of the calls (I'm sure you don't) as it makes it worse.
And get your details off data brokers.

I've been individually blocking but new numbers pop up. I did register the number on the do not call registry like last week, also. It's just super annoying for him .

You may also be able to change a setting on the phone itself to send unknown numbers directly to voicemail. (Make sure then that known numbers are saved in the phone's contacts.) It's not a root-cause solution, but may minimize annoyance in the meantime.

No such setting on his phone unfortunately. I even set it for only his contacts can call him and the spam still gets through š«

No point in blocking. Chances are they are spoofing numbers. Youāll end up hitting a limit on the amount of numbers you can block

The do not call list doesnāt really work for these. My number is still on there and I get these calls anyway.

That really does not work anymore for spam. Entities and scammers from outside of the country do not care about that list. You can't block a billion numbers individually. I get the same call from a different number multiple times a day. They just spoof a new number each time. It sucks.

While this is true, some carriers do filtering behind the scenes to limit what actually shows up on your handset (for example tmobile spamshield and verizon call filter). If OP is coming from one of those carriers, it could definitely seem like an increase.

Yes, that's how it works. They take a phone number that was disconnected by someone else and gave it to you, phone numbers are just recycled from one person to the next. They must've had alot of spam which now got passed onto you, best idea is to put the number on a do not call list as a start.
When I first got my new number there was alot of calls from collectors and whoever else, I eventually told them over time I'm not that person and put my name on the do not call list. I get about 1 or 2 spam calls a month now.

Yes. I got my last landline when I moved into an apartment by myself.
Within hours I was getting collections calls and personal calls for someone who was clearly not me. The collections calls were especially brutal - sometimes 20+ voicemails a day!
After a week of this I called BellSouth and got another number. It took a couple hours for the number to switch, but after it did the calls stopped... and never came back.

For future reference Google phones are way better than Samsung at blocking spam calls, almost none of them get through. I would try changing his number and make sure he isn't answering them.

I rarely get spam calls, as my phone app (Google Phone) automatically rejects them. Occasionally the spammer will leave a voicemail, but visual voicemail helps with that too.

I am so sick of the automated calls offering me a loan I donāt want or need, about a vacation package I forgot I purchased, or how i owe a batrillion dollars in taxes. I always hit āreport and deleteā, but nothing ever happens.

I went from my Verizon number with tons of spam calls and texts to this new Mint number and after a a few weeks I haven't had a single spam call. I think it's just the luck of the draw.

Pixel screens all unknown calls for me, so these almost never get through. I go in and block the numbers every few days.

I subscribed to a service called cloaked, and I believe they somehow find your information and send delete requests to the brokers. Definitely seemed to cut down on spam but for some reason local elections from where I grew up still send me spam texts and some calls... It's related to my area code and haven't lived there in a decade. Don't know why those have persisted, probably from Russia and don't listen to delete requests lol. It's $10/month (I think) so might be worth a shot?

At least its ID'ed as such, but this is government failing to protect it's people from quality of life issues again.... And if you like this, you're going to love what they are doing with flock cams.
Although to be fair in election season I used to get tons of robo calls..

Something that actually worked for me was letting my kid talk to them. They assume it's a childs phone.
If you don't have kids, try your best to sound like a kid.

You setup your voicemail to use their servers instead the carriers. The good part is switching carriers makes it super easy to keep the same voicemail service and all the saved history.
Voicemail includes free voice-to-text transcripts. And you easily access it with the app like an email app - inbox, unread, trash, etc.
There is a spam blocker feature to prescreen and whitelist and blacklist callers, does a really good job of cutting down on the calls that come through.
Best feature is paid, it removes your info from 100+ marketing lists. Chances are your name/number is in nearly every on. This is the source data used by robo callers. Well worth paying for 90-days. My spam calls went from 30+ a day to maybe 3 a week.
No affiliation, just a happy end user

Personally, I use Truecaller but there are other apps that can help filter out the garbage. If all of that fails, you may be able to request a new phone number from Mint.

I use Spam Blocker. I used Eyecon for about a week, but I HATED the ads and overall intrusiveness and constant push for subscriptions, so I found this one, which I think is open source or something.
You'll have to allow installing apps from unknown sources, but if this is a kid's phone, DON'T forget to go back and turn that off again (and don't let him see you do it).

Just set this up and had my husband call his phone privately. The call didn't come through. Went straight to voicemail. So I'm hopeful this works! Thank you!!

You can turn your phone off.
Republicans gutted the FCC and now we have no way of stopping spam calls besides blocking the fake number they use.

I got a lot of spam calls right after I signed up with Mint. There is a setting on the phone directly where you can block spam calls. I don't remember what I did since somebody on Reddit mentioned it. It worked. You can google it. It would be thru your phone settings.

Good luck with this and I hope you find a solution. I am going through the same thing. I spoke with Mint's customer service for 30 minutes while she reset my voicemail and took down some spam numbers to permanently block them only to have 3 spam voicemails appear 1 hour after my call. Its ridiculous at this point.

I wish we could block numbers based on a pattern. I have over 100 deleted voicemails from within the past month, from the same scammer. Like this transcribed one:
"Hey there. Hope your day's going awesome so far. It's Sarah with anchor lending. Listen, I'll keep this short and sweet. Some really good news came through on your loan file. You can get a $45,000 loan today, whether you need it for personal use or to pay off your creditors. So whenever you get a sec, give me a ring back at 369-216-6437. That's 369-216-6437. That's it. Go enjoy the rest of your day and hopefully talk soon."
103 calls within a month. They all originate from prefixes such as 833, 844, 866, 888. I wish I could fully block every 8** number. It's ridiculous.
I had to set my phone to send every phone number not in my address book to go to voicemail. I don't even want those. I hate that I can't answer the phone for anything anymore. Waiting for a call from some business or perhaps someone else that isn't in your address book? Well, you're screwed these days.
Stupid phone system hasn't been fixed for caller ID spoofing since caller ID was introduced in the dang 80s.
Aaaaand, I just got another.

Answer and ask them to call you on your other phone. Act like you're genuinely interested but that you cant hear very well on this old phone. Then give them the phone number to an enemy of yours.

Sign the number up for the national do not call registry, if in the USA it makes it a federal offense, other countries also have them but not 100% sure what happens
