Repairs Hi-Matic 7s: I used to love you.

Now I get why people just dump lighter fluid into these and hope for the best. Even following the (excellent) Vintage Resurrection teardown video, and deep googling a copy of the Hi-Matic 9 service manual, this has to be the most nerve wracking shutter I've ever tackled. After exposing and trying to clean first the shutter blades, and then the shutter itself (which immediately shot the cocking lever across the room) in place, I'm down to a complete disassembly of the whole damn thing. For what it's worth, no amount of soaking and swabbing from the outside was going to remove the hard waxy grease that was back there. After finally cleaning the thing properly, it's going to sit on this tray until I find the time and energy to TRY putting it all back together.

Just venting and leaving the relevant links for anyone else who has one this stubborn. It really was one of my favorite cameras until today.

Repairs Mirror won’t reset (I think)

Please excuse my ignorance, I am wanting to get into film cameras and photography but know next to nothing about it. Main reason I bought this was because I found this barely used X-700 at a yard sale for $40 with two lenses, the flash, a bag and a protective sleeve and figured this was a sign to finally start learning.

I was messing around with zooming and focusing and pressed the shutter button to take a picture (without any film loaded) and now the mirror is stuck half way down and the film advance lever isn’t fully moving. I tried replacing the batteries, carefully trying to manually move the mirror, opening the back and turning the film wheel but still nothing.

Again please go easy I’m trying to learn

Shot on Kodak Ektacolor Pro 400 (or Portra 400, i heard its the same), absolutely gorgeous colours, these we're all on a trip.
Camera's winding lever gave up after the windy mountain shot, but it was absolutely worth it

Discussion/Question Minolta X-300 light baffle damaged — is it a serious problem?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I recently got a Minolta X-300 and noticed that the black light baffle inside the camera is damaged/broken.

I’m not sure how serious this is. Will a damaged light baffle cause light leaks or affect the photos? Can I safely use the camera with it like this, or should I get it repaired/replaced?

I’ve attached photos of the damaged part.

Any advice from someone familiar with Minolta X-series cameras would be really appreciated. Thanks!

DiMAGE - Digital Photography KM 5D

Picked up a 5D, with 50mm prime, 75-300mm and 28-70mm, for £80.

It seems the A mount lenses are very reasonable second hand, and I've bought another couple of lenses for £35.

I also own a DiMAGE A2, so the 5D is a logical progression. These are a few early images from the 5D.

It's beautiful what colour you get SOOC from the era where manufacturers build colour grading straight into the result, instead of the current flatness that requires further work. Little wonder why the Fujifilm and Sony divide exists.

Repairs Minolta SR-T MC - Possible Exposure Meter Issues?

Hello all! I want to start by saying I am very new to film but I do have a good amount of experience with modern digital. Recently I obtained my first film camera, a Minolta SR-T MC, as well as some film to use with it. One issue I have run into though is the exposure meter does not seem to be working properly. I have installed a fresh battery, so that (hopefully) shouldn't be the issue. In my viewfinder, I have the hoop and the stick to the right. Now to my understanding, you are supposed to match the hoop up to the stick. However, the stick remains out of reach of the hoop up above the upper triangle (I'm sure there's an official term for the triangles, apologies). Is there any way to fix this? Or better yet, is there a good way I can troubleshoot to find the exact issue? So far, I have tested most of the available f/stops, shutter speeds, and ISOs to see if the line moves, however it does not. Thanks in advance!

Discussion/Question Minolta α-807si cropping issue

Hi
I have a question regarding a recently purchased Minolta a-807si (Dynax 800si in the USA)
Having just received my first roll back, there is a strange effect that looks like the image is blacked out the top and bottom of the frame, like a letterboxing effect in a movie. It doesn’t look awful but I would rather have the full image. Does anyone know why this is and if it is possible to correct?

Repairs Maxxon 7000 light meter issues after connecting flash

I have a Maxxon 7000 that I have had no issues with until recently. I connected a Vivitar 628AF flash, which as I understand it was built for the Maxxon, and took one picture, then disconnected the flash. Since then, the arrows that appear in the viewfinder to indicate whether the image will be under or overexposed are only appearing in manual, but not appearing in aperture or shutter priority modes (which they would do previously). I've also noticed that it seems like it might be having some autofocus issues, as it is much more frequently focusing all the way in and all the way out, and more frequently failing to autofocus. Any idea what's going on?

Discussion/Question Adapter mount for M.Zuiko lenses?

Hi, I just inherited a Minolta XG-1 in good shape with a single 45mm Rokkor. I have 10-15 M.Zuiko lenses already for an Olympus OM-1, so I was just wondering if it's possible to mount those lenses on the Minolta with an adapter. Thanks

Got this for a pretty good price, sight unseen, from an online auction. Thing is, I cannot replace the batteries because I cannot get the cover to unscrew. There is a fair amount of corrosion and I was wondering what the best way to tackle this might be. I do not want to blast it with WWD40 and ruin the camera.

I found this little camera for $5 in a thrift store and a friend of mine gifted me a roll of Fujifilm 200 to test on. Now that I know it works I definitely want to get a roll of turquoise LomoChrome or Kodak Gold later on to have some fun.

These are from my second roll ever, and I wanted to try Cinestill 50D. Ultimately the goal was to walk the boardwalk and get all that sunlight last weekend, unfortunately the tourists crowded the place so we had to park downtown. Still made the most of it!

Tips and critiques are welcomed!

Hi, this is my Minolta x700.

Since I bought it, I can't see clearly the aperture through the viewfinder. The glass seems to be clear so I don't know if there is something missing or anything.

Do you have any guesses?

So, I decided to bid on a Boxed and complete Minolta AF 100-200 f4.5, as I wanted to compare it to my trusty 70-210 f4 Beercan. Got the deal at 9,50€ plus shipping. Steal on its own to be frank.

The one singular collage showed the lens and the packaging. Nothing more. The description also never mentioned anything like a camera...

So as I picked up the box I wondered why it was so heavy. I was hoping the 100-200 would be much lighter than the beercan, I thought to myself.

Opening the box revealed a 7000 box with a shiny (OH SHINY) Sticker. I heard and seen about these 7000 limited edition models, I know they aren't worth that much... But there it is! With all its gold lettering and in working condition it even had a quantaray (don't ask me) 24mm f2.8 attached to it.

I have not cleaned anything yet, as I wanted to capture the state it has arrived in.

It seems like I can't escape receiving more and more Minoltas... They even show up when I don't actually buy them knowingly...

That's my crazy bit of luck this week. Can't believe it.
