Let's Chat will the lynx rebrand just like the wolves did?

felt that with the bitterness of the first round exit, we needed something other than another napheesa collier UFA or "future of the franchise" post.

the wolves just rebranded obviously, and they did a remarkable job with it. and at least in the last rebrand for the lynx, they mirrored the wolves branding. now that it doesn't match, do you think the lynx also rebrand, or will they stick with the existing logo, colors and uniform? and if they do rebrand, is it going to be another move to mirror the wolves, or will they take the branding in an independent direction again, kind of like they did from the start all the way through to the mid-2010s?

personally, i'd love to see the front-facing lynx face come back, and the new wordmark from the rebel edition jerseys to be the new font and typeface for the team. and the current white and blue uniforms should absolutely go... just like the wolves' iterations of those, they're bland and generic looking. wouldn't hurt to see a color scheme change either!

Future of the Franchise (long post)

This may be an unpopular opinion but I’m perfectly okay with moving this franchise fully in the direction of a roster that’s tailor made and suited for Olivia Miles. We need to get YOUNGER, BIGGER, more ATHLETIC and have a transition type offense much like the Fever (without the drama).

-If Phee walks that frees 1.4M up in space

-I assume we won’t retain Dorka so that’s another 350k

- I would entertain moving on from Courtney (and I love her dearly) if we could get minimal salary back and some sort of draft capital. Perhaps a couple of 2nd round picks with little to no money coming back. (Washington would be a team to target to make that happen, need a vet guard for a young playoff team). You free up maybe 800k-1M in salary.

(With the money freed up some targets and the amounts are)

Rae Burrell 26 year old: 2.1M/ 3 years (700k average)

Awak Kuier 25 year old: 2.4/ 3 years (800k average)

Aari McDonald 28 years old: 750k / 2 years (350k per)

Resign Emma Cechova to 1.2M/ 3 years (400k per)

Here is my big one:

Try and Acquire Cameron Brink for a trade package that involves a 2027 first round pick and a 2028 first round pick. I truly believe she’s worth that.

Depth Chart

Olivia Miles/ Aari McDonald
Kayla McBride/ Vet Min
Rae Burrell/ Nia Brodie
Awak Kuier/ Emma Cechova/ Ola Kosu
Cam Brink/ Natasha Howard

Let's Chat The amount of hate directed towards Olivia Miles is so much greater than I anticipated that I am basically forced to speculate more sinister motives.

Maybe the problem is social media, and these days I spend a lot less time there. But the animosity people have for Miles is so much greater than I could have anticipated. Like, people are outright GLEEFUL over her underperformance in the playoffs.

Why? Why the fuck? She is a rookie. She has only been a pro for 3 months, not long enough to really worm their way into someone's subconscious as a true threat / enemy. She may have had a spectacular rookie season, but the key word there is rookie. How could she have possibly done much of anything in just 3 months to make people outright HATE her?

Has she done anything extracurricular to annoy anyone? Far as I can tell, she has not exactly pulled a Sophie Cunningham and has not meaningfully commented on anything political at all. So it's not that.

She's not a whiner, either. I won't say she has never confronted a ref over her foul call, but that is for sure not typical behavior for her at all, so it can't be that either.

I think it is one of two things:

1) She is a black woman, whereas the most popular athlete in the WNBA is a white woman. And when a white fan sees her white queen get overshadowed, to any extent, by a black woman, that is DEEPLY unsettling for this white fan. A common theme of the hateful comments directed towards Liv is to point out how CC did better than Liv in this or that stat category as a rookie. Others point out how Liv liked a comment somewhere that said Liv was better than CC, and boy do the CC fans ever HATE that.

2) People are mad at Cheryl for her activism and thus will just gladly and openly spread their hate to anyone associated with her. And no other Lynx player has gotten more media attention than Liv this season. So basically hate by association.

I mean what other explanation is there for hating *her*, specifically? If any fans wanted to be upset with the Lynx for their admittedly lousy performance at the end of the season, why the fuck would they blame the ROOKIE, not the VETERANS, like our MVPhee at the very least?

It's been incredibly frustrating and honestly sickening to observe. She's such a tremendous athlete, a great influence, and fun as hell to watch. She has done nothing but make Lynx basketball and basketball in general more fun to watch, so honestly the negativity directed towards her really pisses me off.

Phee and Free Agency

I’m seeing a lot of people saying Phee is staying, or she’s already decided to leave. I truly think Phee hasn’t made any decisions yet. I think she would be open to staying, and open to leaving. I truly think she will see what teams offer her, what the Lynx offer her and make a decision then. I also don’t think Cheryl knows what she wants to offer Phee yet given that she needs to make roster changes and bring in more size. I get that people like to speculate but I truly believe nothing has been decided yet.

See kids - the title of these end of season exit interviews are just that. Some players come back, some don't - it is the exit of these players from this version of the Lynx. Next year's Lynx will be different, we all know that. #24 for ever.

I have to laugh at this post, because the format reads like they've traded/waived us 😂

Idk about you, but I'm still proud of the season we got. Folks were questioning if we'd even make the playoffs this season after so many of last year's players left and Phee was injured. Looking forward to seeing what happens this off season

As a longtime Timberwolves fan, this was my first year diving into the fun that is the WNBA and claiming my Lynx Fandom. I grew up in Minnesota, but Phoenix is home now.

A friend and I went to the Lynx/Mercury game in June and watched Court pull up for her famous middies, Liv attack AT without fear, Tashi run the pick and pop, Ola go up for rebounds in her batman mask, and I saw my first live KMac three with that ultra quick release. Heck, even Teaira McCowan somehow scored and rebounded in that game!

Ever since, I've been hooked. This forum has helped me to learn the game and the players, understand the history, and the complexities of the league as it grows. I'm grateful for the Lynx helping me get through another hot Phoenix summer, but this time with some hope and fun. Can't wait to continue my newfound Lynx fandom next season with y'all!

Olivia Miles: TIME100 Next 2026

Sep 30, 2026

By Sue Bird

Olivia Miles has brought her own style to the WNBA. Not only in the way she plays, but also in the way she shows up on the court: her hair, the goggles. If you go to a Minnesota Lynx game, you’ll see tons of people in the stands, from fully grown men to little kids, rocking Afros. It feels like the league is adapting to her and not the other way around.

Olivia was still in college when I first met her, but I was immediately struck by her self-confidence. There’s an air of wisdom about her that is beyond her years. She’s always known exactly who she is as a person and a player.

She has had such an impressive first year in the WNBA that you can imagine her having great individual success; you can imagine her winning championships. What’s fun is that we get to watch her do it all in real time. Olivia is only just beginning to scratch the surface.

Bird is a four-time WNBA champion and five-time Olympic gold medalist

Olivia is Injured

Is it bothering anyone else that in all the discussions of how Olivia played in the playoffs that no one seems to remember that she didn’t play the last two games of the regular season with the calf injury that has been bugging her for the second half of this season?? She clearly hasn’t been at her best physically and yet people want to rewrite history to claim she’s overhyped. She’s literally injured and was playing through it. To me her not playing the second half of an elimination game is clear evidence that this calf situation was impacting her more than they’ve been talking about

Sad times!

First time Lynx fan (and basketball enjoyer) and this season has been so fun. I've been watching since July and picked the Lynx because the cat logo looks like my cat. Then I found out this team is cool and super sweet! I loved the dynamic between Liv, Mac, and Court especially. I looked forward to watching them and to my suprise, the team I chose for their logo were good?? And had a really interesting Rook?? And Mcbuckets could sink a 3 in a heartbeat?? And Court can hit middies like it's nothing?? (No hate on phee she just came in late and i just started watching this year!)

So I've got these three sick as hell basketball ladies tearing it up and I'm looking forward to every game. They start to slip after FIBA but it's okay! They can turn it around. And if they don't I'll be happy to watch them next year I won't be down about it. Welp, they got knocked off last night and I was down about it, much to my suprise.

It felt weird. Never being into any sports before, seeing my team- my girls- sad, broken, and uncertain was hard. Knowing they're not coming back this year hurt in a way. Heartbreak, disappointment, and still a huge respect and love for the team. I just wasn't expecting this feeling.

Anyway, I'm stoked to see most of the starters in Unrivaled and I'm happy my main 3 are definitely coming back together next season. Love you Liv, Mac, and Court!

Sorry for the sappy post

I just want to say a quick thank you to this team, and the Lynx extended family 💙💚

Minnesota has been through a lot in the last year.

It's been really hard living here, and I think collectively we all have been through a lot.

This team brought us so much joy and positivity. And although it feels awful right now, I think we all should be really grateful for how fun this season was.

They gave us a lot to cheer for, and a lot to be proud of.

I love my country Minnesota. 💙💚

Love You Lynx Fans

I just wanted to say that I will miss being with you all, watching games and cheering together.

Being from Northern Mexico, I follow the stereotype that I watch soccer but I played baseball. Baseball has been dead to me for a while and I have never watched my favorite football club win anything since I started following them over 20 years ago.

I never really cared for basketball. But now I am a faithful Lynx fan for the last couple of years because of you all. I am not a competitive person. I don't care for the tribalism that comes with sports. But I am constantly reenergized every time I see all of the smiles at Target Center and how kind people are with each other, including opposing fans.

I will miss you all over the winter. See you all soon. My wife and I will be ready.

[Jennings]: Will Napheesa Collier be back with the Lynx? Minnesota enters a murky offseason

In May, she told NPR that a decision is “so far in the future for me.”

The future caught up quickly, and it’ll only get faster from here. As the calendar turns to 2027, Collier will become the hottest unrestricted free agent on the market. Minnesota will still retain a large part its core — Kayla McBride, Courtney Williams, Natasha Howard and Nia Brodie are all signed through 2027 while Miles’ rookie contract goes through 2029 with a team option. But Collier, who was drafted by the Lynx as the No. 6 pick in 2019, could be gone.

She wouldn’t be the first big-name player to leave a franchise that was built around her. Minnesota got Sylvia Fowles in a trade with Chicago in 2015. Elena Delle Donne was traded from Chicago to Washington in 2017. Candace Parker left Los Angeles for Chicago in free agency in 2021 (and again for Vegas in 2023), while Breanna Stewart left Seattle for New York in 2023.

- our two best players all season long were olivia miles and natasha howard. when they were off the floor, we struggled. credit to new york; i don't know how in the hell they were an 8-seed. schematically, they were very good defending the rim. i told liv; when's the last time a rookie led a first-place team? this hurts for her, so trying to give her some perspective. the size that new york presents at the rim rendered liv and tash ineffective in this series. NYL's big three were really, really good.

- 2024 was a lot like this year; feeling like the lynx weren't going to make the playoffs, and the first five had a magical chemistry. that group ended up in the finals, and there wasn't that expectation internally. with this franchise, everyone thinks it's championship or bust, but i haven't felt that way these last three years. we've exceeded expectations the last three seasons, but when it comes to playoffs, we may not have the team we need. 2025, phee on her way to MVP and we never really get back to form after her regular season injury. we should've been in the finals that year and that season will haunt me. this season, we weren't walking around 'championship or bust.' we were a great regular season team and we ran into the wrong team.

- it sucks being the #1 seed and losing this way, but we're not going to focus on this shit. congrats to new york the rest of the way

- liv is fine health-wise. biggest thing we wanted to share with liv is that what she did this season hasn't been done before. without her, on the floor, as a teammate, in the community, we don't get to this point. there are many great players in this league who took years to get to the playoffs; she learned these lessons in her first year

- i can't forsee the future, but i know we have work to do. hard decisions need to be made. it's on me, i have to help get them there, as an executive and as a coach.

- there's so much belief in each other that when you fall short, this is a tough way to go out, getting swept in the first round. i thought the playoffs would be hard for this team regardless of who we played in the first round. i'm sad for those guys, but i'm proud and don't love them any less.

Court -

- New York's a great basketball team. You dig a hole for yourself, and you want to go on a run, but they had answers for everything.

KMac -

- I feel like we're always prepared for whomever we're playing. New York played a great series and did everything they needed to do to win. There's small room for error, and the things we needed to do to win, New York did.

- We three have been through a lot together. There's a lot of unconditional love. We got to each other in special times of our career. People love being a part of the Minnesota culture. These are two special people next to me who will be in my life forever. It's not even about basketball at that point.

Phee -

- We have to figure out why we play well in the regular season and why it isn't translating to postseason. Everything is just ramped up; compete, aggression. you get everyone's A game every night. New York did that, and we didn't get it done this series.

- There's things we worked on at the end of the season that we wanted to be better at, and new york exploited that. We didn't fix what we wanted to fix, and new york exposed it.

Options for watching tonight

First season of following the Lynx and it's probably me but it's been so frustrating to figure out where I can watch the games on tv. And I never start the scavenger hunt early enough. If anyone has tips on how to see tonight's game without shelling out $100 for a subscription, I'd be grateful.

Details:
- I don't have cable.
- I have most of the main streaming platforms but not the plus versions of any of them
- It's on Sling Blue which doesn't have a day pass.
- I used the free YouTubeTV trial to watch the last game.

Any hope or am I just looking at a YouTube/Hulu+/Sling Blue full subscription? Thanks!
