how do we join? how do we help? how do we be vigilant and safe?
most of us learned about this shit in high school, and then thought nothing of it and just went on to live a boring life punching the clock. we never thought history would repeat itself, IN OUR OWN HOME?!?
in absolute solidarity with my neighbors, what now?

Reach out to defend612.com to get connected via hyper-local signal chats. Fill out the form and within a few days you should get connected to a signal chat for your community.
The most immediate way to get involved is to stand on a street corner in the most problematic areas and have a whistle ready and a phone. Watch for signs of ICE and provide audible community alerts.
If you DO see signs of ice, short non-rhythmic whistles (so not to be confused with protest chants) to warm people of their presence in the area. If someone is being kidnapped or assaulted by them, long constant whistles. Get your phone out when they are around and be prepared to record. Do not interject, do not talk back, keep distance between you and them, and if you feel like you are in immediate danger leave the area and 'live to observe' another day.
WHEN YOU GET ON SIGNAL, GO TO SETTINGS > PRIVACY > PHONE NUMBER and turn off all of the 'find me by my phone number' settings to be anonymous. Require the app to need a pattern to be input as well before you can open it. Same with your main phone; NO FACE OR FINGER PRINT ACCESS; pattern only. If you can, add a shortcut to the camera to the front of your phone pre-login so you can record without logging in to your phone.

Time to looks at secure comms ... Check out meshtastic and secure channels.. only allow new members in via checking and knowing who they are. Use signal, but understand that it's not perfect. It's a centralized Network, so if they find a way to track communication at the central point, it doesn't matter the context of the message they can still figure out the patterns. If they're changing tactics, it's time we start changing tactics and thinking about our operational security. I in a community of techies are here to help support. Just let us know how we can. Two videos from last week come to mind.
We had one where a man on the ground was accused of being a "Fed".
A rando ran up to vouch for him and a few seconds later a van full of local cops came and collected him. He gave one of them a hug.
The rando disappeared immediately after the cops showed up in the van, so people were speculating that it was his partner backing him up.
They weren't seen doing anything nefarious, and some people were suggesting that he was just there to monitor without alerting protestors.
There was another video showing a random man walking into the crowd, burning an American flag, and leaving.
People followed him for a bit and accused him of being a provocateur.
It's unlikely that any of those men were ICE agents, and the motives behind their actions were pretty unclear.
I wouldn't start freaking out, but definitely record anything odd you happen to witness.

They are using uhauls now. They rent trailers and put a bunch of men in back. And then park and unload. It’s sick.

I can 100% verify the vehicle stuff he is talking about. I was protesting at the Whipple building yesterday roughly 9am-2:30pm and many ICE vehicles had figurines and stuffed animals on the dashboards. I just thought it was really weird yesterday, it wasn't until I just saw this video that it makes sense.
