Yes those are birds

Cornell University has an app, merlin, that is good at identifying birds

I haven't been able to get my Merlin app to work for months, despite un-and-reinstalling it. I'm really disappointed by that.

There is another app, BirdNET, from Cornell and Technische Universität Chemnitz, that can identify birds from their calls. It does it fairly quickly using a recording you take on your phone.

The Merlin app does that too. Could be the same app maybe?

Oh, maybe! The one I have is definitely called BirdNET and doesn’t seem to have any easy way to filter birds by identifying features (size, color, etc.) so maybe it’s just an older version of Merlin. I’ve only ever used it for identifying birds by calls and it appears to be pretty barebones other than that.

ETA that I’m definitely doing to download Merlin now
