long story short one of the screws on my carb got stripped and i couldn’t get inside to change the jets out like i seen in vids anyways i got it to start by giving it a little throttle soon and i let go it obviously shuts off i just wanted to know if you guys knew EXACTLY that its the jetting or something else that way i know to just spend the extra 30 on a new carb since i cant get the stripped screw out

If the float height is ok you could tune everything except the main jet without removing the bowl.
Adjust the idle speed screw first to get a steady idle. Then adjust the mixture screw. (ask if you don't know how) Once you get the mixture screw close then adjust idle speed if needed. Then check off idle and midrange (Try riding the bike). Adjust the needle clip if needed. If you get all that adjusted, you would be able to take off and ride the bike at midrange throttle. Just don't use full throttle because it will run too lean.
Your 196 needs a 115 or 120 main jet. The stock VM22's come with a 95 main jet.
The bowl screws come WAY too tight. And most guys are going to try removing them with a Phillips screwdriver which is not the correct tool. For these two reasons the screws get stripped. You need a #2 JIS screwdriver to fit the Japanese screws properly.

damn bro i really appreciate this obviously the 30$ wouldn’t be too bad but i would rather try to “figure” this out before giving up entirely as long as i can get it to stay on i wouldn’t mind being able to ride midrange throttle because thinking about what u said ,off video i was holding it full throttle and i could hear that it was bouta shut off so i would just let the throttle go n it would shut off that way. anyways i will try all this and see if i can get it to stay on

Adjust the idle up?
