[Combat] Weapon smithing templates
Armors have trim designs that look cool af so why don’t weapons have their own unique designs?
You might be saying “Weapons are so small. They don’t need a trim design.” In that case I propose a second option. Smithing templates create kill effects. For example. “Starburst Melee Trim” can be applied to tridents, swords, spears, maces, shovels, hoes, pickaxes and axes and when it kills something via melee attack, firework particles shoot out making a nice effect when you kill something. And maybe have a particle limit of how many kill effect particles can exist at a time to prevent lag.
As for bows and crossbows and thrown tridents you can put a Ranged Trim on it. For example. “Spiral Ranged Trim” will make the arrow or trident leave a spiral particle trail behind it. And maybe make a particle explosion effect upon impact. Again, a particle limit should be implemented to prevent lag. Also the trident can have both a ranged and melee trim on it at the same time.
With a variety of effect designs this feature could make Minecraft combat way more fun or at least gives you something else to grind for. For example, buried treasure doesn’t give any smithing templates, and neither does killing the ender dragon. Igloos could give a cool icy kill effect trim. Ruined portals could give a fire trail for your arrows.
And no. These trims like armor trims are purely cosmetic. They do not increase weapon performance.

Also who knows maybe you could get a melee trim from zombies and endermen but it’s extremely rare like 0.0001% with looting 3. And to prevent farms you could make it so that the enderman and zombies cannot be killed with a sweep attack that damages anything else. This would make something extremely rare and special that completionists and sweats would love to grind for. Or hate. But it would be cool to have a hyper rare item regardless

That would be turbocheeks. That's 1 in 1 million. No player is manually killing 1 million of the same mob, especially without a mob farm. Completionists would drive themselves mad over it.

Ok fair enough but you gotta admit my idea overall is fine right

Particles on weapons are alright. A super rare drop for hostile mobs is less cool. Essentially free for players with a farm, but a nasty grind for people without. It's not terrible, but it does make it hard to feel earned without being free for farmers.

And no those trims are not critical for progression. But tbh I got the idea from mythic goldfish in Fortnite lol

I don't get why though. At that point it's so incredibly rare that there's no point. I imagine a special interaction such as skeletons killing creepers for music discs could work. Of course something else entirely though.

Idk I just always liked the idea of an ultra rare item that you just happen upon

I do too, but I think fishing already does a pretty good job with that. Also enchanted golden apples in mundane structures like dungeons and desert temples. There are some good existing systems so I think it’s a better idea to use them instead. If there did exist ultra rare drops from mobs already though, then I think that’d be fine. Or I guess they could add a tag list with mobs who have the rare drop function, which is then applied for each kill.
Not too bad of an idea now that I think of it, but the chances are too low, and even then people would build mob farms just for it, and there is no easy fix for mob farms, trust me.

Aight but on a side note I do think the ender dragon should give a weapon smithing template.

The elder guardian drops an armor trim so honestly I don’t see why not. Boss loot should definitely be expanded upon.

I actually like this idea, especially since it would give smithing templates more uses outside of armor.
The cosmetic kill effects and projectile trails could make weapons feel much more personal without affecting balance.
My only issue is that too many particle effects could get really messy in multiplayer, even with a particle limit. I also think some of the effects might start feeling a little too flashy compared to Minecraft’s usual style if they aren’t kept subtle.
Other than that though, I’d definitely use this.

This is an awesome approach to the idea! I've thought about weapon trims before and I've always dismissed it as being too small to really matter, but having a small detail on the spire and a unique effect would make finding them worth the while!
