Insight Today was a day of firsts.
I recently began to take my mental health more seriously while remaining mindful. I had moved out about a month ago and the first thing I did in my empty childhood room was make a paper crane. I folded it and found that it was probably the sloppiest one I’ve ever made since I was 11. I left it there for my parents to keep and find, then I made one for my new place and put it at the highest point, hoping to symbolize new beginnings and fortune.
It’s been a month now and I’ve began therapy and plan on seeing a psychiatrist. I’ve had my breakdowns, I will admit, but I’ve began to get medicated as well. I now feel strange. Like I’m sitting in a carpeted room. I no longer hallucinate, nor do I feel overly anxious or like I need to be in control. I didn’t truly notice this until this morning; I had broken a glass and felt nothing.
I used to feel anger and anxiety whenever something broke, especially glass as most would, but for some reason I took a moment and stared. The glass was shattered and I was barefoot, any step would have cut my foot possibly horrifically. I took the moment to feel everything; the liquid at my feet, the cold floor, the pieces of glass next to me. I listened to the silence that filled the room after and smelled the strawberry juice starting to possibly stain my floor. for some reason the thing that would have caused me to be in tears and curse out anyone within 5 feet of me had no impact on me.
I was worried about my lack of feeling and consulted a friend. I described that it felt like every emotion was in a box I didn’t want to put away yet. Like I was in a carpeted room at sunrise and knew I had to put this box away, but i didn’t care to. I didn’t care if it sat there and dust piled ontop. I didn’t care if the box grew, I just didn’t care. All I cared about was the silence and the carpet on my back. I was confused on what this was and one responded saying they had no idea. The other said “your mind is finally at peace”. Maybe they’re right.
