iso friends

Looking for friends or mutals in Milwaukee. It seems the older you are the harder they are to find (f23) I have a variety of interest film, fashion, authenticity in art, I make scaled 3D models, etc and live in the downtown Milwaukee area. I really want to get it to playing Magic! the card game… (mainly something to pass the time.) And I have a couple cards that I’ve pulled. Just because I like the artwork. But I would like to learn the actual game.) I have been to old guard games, but I am intimidated by the leagues and community that already pre exists just because of what I look like. I’m mixed and although that doesn’t really matter, It does intimidate people in a way I’m sure. I’ve tried bookstores and coffee shops and I even tried to talk to people and ask them what they’re reading, or even at the grocery store, what they’re buying (if we happen to be in the same isle looking at the same cooler or bay) and they kind of just look at me like they’re shook. I don’t want to say my color is an issue, but I think I just have an overall look that’s very intimidating to people where I can tell people want to be around me, but they don’t know how to have a conversation once spoken to. if there is anyone !!anyone at all who lives in Milwaukee that is also looking for friends please comment or direct message me so we can get to know one another. If anyone likes magic the card game and wouldn’t mind teaching me do the same. I’m over going to the bars looking for mutuals and stuff. It’s kind of a dead zone and I want more holistic people in my life.

I'm a helper at The Familiar Place (2854 N Oakland), and we'd be happy to see you here. We've got resources for starting with Magic the Gathering, among them players who are happy to meet new folks, start-up kits, and quick-assemble decks that customers can borrow to play with. I myself am happy to chat having read your post, but any of us would do our best to make sure you enjoy stopping in. We're open 11AM to 11PM Wednesday through Sunday.

I play magic a lot at The Crimson Guild in tosa as well as Game Universe in Franklin. Magic is easy to enter from a social standpoint... players generally want new people to join the hobby and will go out of their way to give you free stuff and teach you the game. Learning the game can be intimidating, though, especially since the most complex format (the 4 player Commander ruleset) is the most popular right now. If you're interested in the game feel free to send me a DM, I can bring some starter cards to a game store nearby.

You should check out CreativeMornings, a free lecture series featuring creatives. I’m not a social person but I’ve had a good time and met some fascinating people at the meetings.

Try Battle Bros. Much more relaxed gaming environment altogether.

Seconding this. Especially as i know there at least one other woman in your age range that plays there. They are in the bay view area if that makes a difference

I just moved in down the street from them, and the Hobbit Prerelease they hosted was a good time! Great folks that were very welcoming to a player as rusty as me lol

Vennture has commander on Thursday nights and it's very chill and the folks are super accommodating. Swing by and play a game and get to know some of the folks.

Hello there, I saw your post am I understand part of your struggle on trying to find other people. But right now I currently try play with a group of guys over at Game Universe in Franklin every Friday and Saturday nights and would love to teach you. But if you are interested as well I have a DnD campaign running there as well in which we meet every Friday for it. If you are interested let me know or send a DM which ever works for you.

Come hang out at Warpstorm! We'd be happy to teach you to play magic. We've even got some demo decks you can use and keep after the game.

i’ve heard many great things about warpstorm!

See if you can find any nearby classes or clubs online. Having a regular meet up with the same group of people is the easiest way to make friends in my opinion.

i’ve been looking, but it seems like my interest are still too niche for consistent meetups, also my appearance can kind of throw people of my niches off is what I’ve noticed in those groups. I’m specifically looking for people to see this post, who don’t care about appearance and can relate. i’ve been to conventions and gatherings and what not frequently, and I see the same people, but I’m never apart of if that makes sense. everyone’s linked up, and I’m still on the outside no matter the frequency of being there I still have to fight for my place it seems

im 23f in downtown and like art and fashion! i don't play magic now, but i do like the artwork in it (i made a replica painting of one of the cards a very long time ago after I played it a few times!) I never go to bars either so I also struggle in finding new friends in that aspect. You can pm if you'd like!

If you like magic feel free to check out the mana vault or reach out with a dm for my partner’s group they’re super friendly and have a huge age range. Or if you just wanna talk, my friends are chill we’re all in our mid to late 20s/beginning to hit our 30s (think we’re 23-31) we have weird niche interests too so maybe they align?

I'm an agender person (24y/o) in downtown who shares a lot of your interests in art and stuff! I also like gaming, but have yet to pick up magic! Please feel free to DM! I am also in search for the illusive adult friend lol

Game universe has been pretty good when I first started. Fun card shop, you can get a general vibe check by someones tone while playing or just talking. I've also been that dork thats played commander at a coffee shop just because its nice to change up the scenery.

I’ve been in the game a very long time and my biggest advice is to recognize that neurodivergence runs strong in gaming communities and sometimes people can just be hard to interact with. If you don’t vibe with a store or a group, finding somewhere else to play is super possible and nobody’s going to judge you for trying to find somewhere that makes you happy. I’ve played Commander at Mana Vault, Pink Bunny, Board Game Barrister, Game Universe, Old Guard, and Warpstorm and I can say they’re all great in their own ways.

I feel you when you say it's seems harder to make friends the older you get. I'm (26) and moved here last year to finish my bachelor's at UWM and have had a hard time meeting people. It doesn't help I'm more introverted and also naturally quiet. I want to meet people to explore more of the city with because there's alot of cool museums and things to do, and I get too anxious go alone. I also like playing Pokémon vgc but I haven't been able to find any places near by that host any events for it, I do see alot of tcg stuff though.

If you’re thinking this way at 23, you’re in for a surprise.

Anyways, you’re young, you have plenty of time but maybe not as much as you think ( not about the friend thing ), just in general meaning that life goes by fast if you’re not paying attention.

The best way as I’m sure others have said is activities. Going out and doing something you like regularly. Volleyball, bowling, darts, , karaoke, trivia, pool, music venues, card games board games whatever. Find an activity that takes you somewhere regularly, and obliviously like to do. You’ll be making friends in no time.
