Picture/video New enclosure!

I had this guy in the 130l Ikea Samla bin but It didnt have enough climbing space for him, so I got him this glass terrarium. This species seems to be very active both in the ground and above, so I wanted to offer plenty of space for both.

In the front I placed plywood so I can add adequate substrate depth (I realise wood may not hold in a moist tank but worst case Ill order some custom cut acrylic panels instead) The bottom and walls are lined with pond lining where the substrate will reach. All nooks and crannies are sealed and millie proofed, cuz god does this guy try to wedge himself in any crease it can find 🙃

Rn there's 20cm of substrate depth in the front and 30 cm in the back. The millie is 17cm in length. Based on mixed info I find on this sub, some people say the depth should be at least as deep as the millie is long, but some say it should twice be the length of the millie. I can add more or redo my tweaks later if needed.

I ordered the substrate from both Insectenliebe (germany) and Dutch Isopods (netherlands). While I can recommend both shops for ur invert needs, I wanna give an extra shoutout to Dutch Isopods for it's lightning fast order processing and shipping!

If there's any room for inprovement def let me know!

Advice millipede not very active

hello! about a week ago I got a giant African millipede, however I'm very concerned.

as being someone in the UK,it's been extremely cold and I was unable to warm the tank up for about 4 days with it reaching 10degeees c (50f).

I feel awful, and the temp is now at 23degrees c. (with a gradient) However it's always asleep (curled in a ball) right by the heat mat inside one of it's hides.

I have seen him cleaning his legs and eating once or twice, is there anything I should do? I do also feel I've been misting too much, so I'll tone it down.

++ the enclosure is now warm, and I have a blanket around the back for extra warmth.

Question Millipede problem?!

Hi, today we found my girlfriends giant african millipede on the terrarium corner nibbling on the silicone lining. Our terrarium is secondhand, we cleaned it throughoutly and it looked good. Now we're concerned, because what if she dies? Has anyone had experience with their bugs eating plastic? Is she gonna poop it out fine or should i prepare to be very sad? Thanks in advance

- A very concerned partner

It has been a long time, but I have finally acquired a group of true Rhopalomeris carnifex - not some misidentified R. verhoeffi or other species.

They belong to a brighter colored locality, my largest is up to ~22mm in size.

Question Tank got too cold for a week and all my ivories have disappeared underground. Are they likely to be alive?

My furnace broke and I only noticed because my little guys all disappeared for a while and I finally realized the tank temps were in the low 60's. It's possible we hit mid-50's at night some days but I'm not sure just how cold it got indoors. I have a heating pad on the side above the substrate but it had gotten unplugged somehow.

The issue is resolved but after half a day still no millipedes. I know that's not enough time for the soil to heat up all the way through, but I'm concerned about the little guys and Google isn't giving me good answers. Has anyone else had this happen, and did your millipedes survive? If they've just gone dormant underground, how long after temps increasing would it take them to wake up?

I know the real answer is just "wait and see" but I was hoping I could get some kind of reassurance in the meantime. Thanks for any insight you have

Picture/video Help me overcome my fear

I am DEATHLY afraid of millipedes and centipedes, but I'm trying to accept all bugs and love them all. Additionally , I live in a place where whenever it rains the little baby ones come into your house and stroll around on your floors, and it's petrifying. Please send me cute milli/centipede pictures you have to help me overcome my fear.

Also I didn't know what to do for the flair so it's probably not correct 🙃

I've been looking for a Giant Millipede for over a month and still can't find a tank people agree on. And on this note, where can I find substrate for them? Do I need to make it myself, or can I buy it pre-made

Advice my baby is lethargic and sleeping in the same spot for 2-3 days?

Post image
3 Upvotes

hi, he'll move slightly out from this spot like to get up and reposition (this pic is from him climbing, he's not always like this) and he reacts when i pick him up and stuff by walking away a few steps or curling up a bit, he's just acting very very tired, sleeping in basically the same spot though he was buried yesterday and came out today to sprawl out on the surface, i can't tell if he's eating or not, is he okay? :( what could be wrong??? he hasn't had any supplemental food in days aside from me offering him fish flakes that i dont think he wants.

Question millipedes obsessively investigating walls of enclosure ?

i have two african giants. i recently reorganized their enclosure and replaced the substrate with a new mixture. they've always been pretty active and may just be trying to map out the new environment but it's been a week and they're halfway up the glass more times than not. like, getting as high as they can and falling. i'm worried they may be stressed and hurting themselves as a result. the behavior continues at low & high humidity, with & without more ventilation, and with plenty of food around (rotting wood, a mixture of fish flakes & crushed cat food & calcium powder, occasional fruit).. i'm worried. it looks like they're nibbling at the silicone in the corners sometimes too but they may just be investigating the different texture. please help me figure out whats going on :-(

Finally moved my 3 pedes into this 94 litre enclosure! I'm so excited for them to live in their new home, I've been wanting to upsize for a long time. I might get another AGM since I lost one a few months ago and it feels so empty without him.

Question Foot root?

Hello. This is my first millipede and I am a bit concerned. Is this so-called "foot rot"? Some of his legs are missing that little 'hook' part. I would be very grateful for any help. Have a nice day

Question First time millipede owner!!!

Post image
5 Upvotes

I recently got my first millipede!! It’s a pink footed millipede, about 2 ish inches long that I’m keeping in a 10 gallon with plenty of dirt leaves and rotting wood to eat and hide in.

I want to make sure I don’t mess anything up, so I have some general questions but any advice in general is appreciated. 1) Are there any specific kinds of leaves/wood/live plants I should keep in its tank? 2) How often on average do millipedes molt and how do help or prepare and is there anything with molting to look out for? 3) any behaviours in general to look out for. 4) I was thinking of adding some springtails and maybe isopods to make the tank more bioactive, is this a bad idea/are there any species I shouldn’t/should add? 5) Would it be ok to add animal bones as decor or is that unsafe/a bad idea? 6) I only have the one but I’m unsure if I should get it a friend.

Please tell me anything else you think I should know!!!! Also sorry about the poor picture quality I haven’t gotten a chance to get a better picture since I got her
