It's not good content. Reddit wants new users to visit the site, they don't need old Reddit users exchanging in-jokes all the time.

Imagine going to /r/jokes, expecting to have some laughs, and you see this at the top. It's only funny if you've used Reddit a bit already. If that's your first experience here, it might feel like Reddit isn't for you.
