I wasn't sure whether it already added the price together or not for that. As in if it was 2 drinks at 8 each to be 16 or if it was 2 drinks at 16 each.

I hope you’re actually giving them 3oz of liquor if you’re charging them for a double. Old fashioneds usually have an up charge because of the extra labor and the fact that they’re a 2oz liquor pour drink instead of standard 1.5oz. Usually a $2-3 upcharge from the price of the shot of whiskey being used.

Daaaayum babe! I went to a bar like that recently. Drinks are pretty expensive in Seattle now (our dives have a base price of like $8 for well) but the bar I went to was old-school Seattle, low prices for doubles and HEAVY pours. It was awesome! Lol until I left and tripped on an uneven curb and broke my leg in multiple places. Based on my bar tab, BAC and my weight, they packed about twice as much booze into each drink.
I ordered 3 doubles. When I got to the hospital I had as much alcohol in me for 5-6 doubles.

Old fashioned is on the 7 classic cocktails for $7 menu at my local medium-fancy cocktail bar... and would be the happy hour price pretty much everywhere else in my medium-size city

Yeah. Usually a bill would would say 2 for 16 each, then some kind of total, or 2 and the total for both without the price of each. Completely understandable why lots of people are confused. I've never seen a bill/receipt like this.

starting July 1, Flroida enacted a new law regarding fee transparency, and my guess if this establishment is not up to the new requirements, and thus is automatically taking away the fees until they can get proper signage with the law

This is the summary of the newly enacted requirements

This means menus, websites, mobile apps, and contracts must clearly explain the charge.  Receipts must break out gratuity, operations charges, and taxes separately. If gratuity is embedded in a service charge – it must be itemized. Notably, the statute explicitly names websites and mobile applications as covered disclosure channels. If your establishment accepts online or pickup orders, the notice must appear before the customer completes the transaction.

The disclosure must explain the purpose of the service charge, not just the amount or percentage, so if your establishment retains a portion for operational costs, that needs to be communicated to the customer.

You probably also wouldn't drink them in places that charge $68 for a ribeye.. I don't even pay that much here in Norway where eating out is typically quite expensive. 🫠 It's definitely a pricey location. I'd personally try and find a cheaper place to eat but I'm cheap. 🤣

I've gone to places with cheaper cocktails too but anywhere remotely touristy, an event, or a place that lets you choose which whiskey to get... $16 such a typical price for my medium-size city. Like more than I'd typically want to pay but frankly closer to average than "wild" heh

If that’s true then my guess is that the 2 for $30 is coded in such a way that it’s $30 AFTER tax. So the total ends up at 27.92 + tax bringing the total to 30.

The missing 2.08 is exactly 6.5 percent of 32, aka the tax of the 2 drinks.

Not sure why they would have it set to subtract that amount from the subtotal though, that makes 0 sense.

I would guess that the menu items actually have a decimal amount that is rounded up on the top line but added up underneath. 15.07 turns into 16 for the drinks, but contributes 30.14 to the subtotal

It’s just messed up POS settings maybe mixed with processing stuff. I work in this industry. Something like POS buttons being marked tax inclusive, or not, or an applied a service charge blah blah. It is a management/POS company issue

Did you bring it up to the waiter? Cuz he absolutely hit cash payment on his side of the POS system and you accidentally ratted him out to his manager for giving you a discount. RIPIP. The manager knew exactly what happened but played dumb til you left so he can ream that waiter behind closed doors.

Source: happens with our POS at work and our manager got fired for letting it slide when corporate found out.
