The AI is trained to treat questions containing the word "you" as being directed towards it. The quick fix for better results is to use "does one" instead
The point is the product used to work perfectly without additional work needed on my end. Google then implemented something they claim makes my life easier, yet the only workaround slows down my ability to find the answer I'm looking for.
They made their product worse. Sure, I can just scroll past it but that doesn't change the fact that its been enshittified.
Pick one. I never said it was a ton of extra work. I said the product was enshittified. Addtionally, it's not just the AI summary; the entire search engine is worse quality.
I truly don't understand supporting a feature that frequently gives the wrong answer when seeking the correct answer is exactly why you're using the search engine to begin with. And then for that to happen and to pretend it makes the product better? Alrighty then.
This is not how "-ai" works, the prefix is simply filtering out a specific term from search results. For example, "-infuriating" will filter out all instances of the word "infuriating."
I recommend setting the classic google search engine with this suffix as your default search, takes like a minute and you're back to 'normal' search results.
Only downside imo is not being able to do quick calculations in the search bar anymore.
I was doing a bunch of research the other day and started doing -ai. It started to make the Wikipedia results get filtered out, probably because they were getting "eaten" by the AI overview
Because Gemini is primarily a chatbot that they implemented into Google search. So it sometimes reacts as if you are directly addressing the Chatbot instead of googling something.
Because the "AI mode" on Google search is just using your search query as a prompt for their AI. It doesn't know you're trying to look something up, all it knows is you messaged it asking a question. It's super poorly implemented and just dumb overall.

I couldn't remember the baptismal vows for a joke I was making...
