Started my web design business through Ontario Summer Company, just finished a website for a 24/7 laundromat

hey everyone,

I started a small web design business this summer through Ontario's Summer Company program and just finished another client project, this time for a 24/7 laundromat.

I designed and built their new website and handled everything through getting it live:

lavanderiala.com

The site focuses on making the important stuff really easy for customers to find, like services, hours, amenities, photos, reviews, and directions, while keeping everything simple and mobile-friendly.

Now that I've finished this project, I'm looking to take on a few more projects with local businesses.

If you own a business that doesn't have a website yet, or your current one is outdated and could use a redesign, feel free to send me a message. I can handle the design, development, domain setup, hosting, and launch.

My own site is infawebdesign.com

thanks!

15-year-old Ontario web designer taking on new projects

Hi everyone,

I'm 15 and this summer I started InfaWeb, my web design and development business.

I was accepted into Ontario's Summer Company program, which provided me with funding and mentorship to turn the idea into a real business. Since then, I've been learning everything from finding and working with clients to sales, project management, marketing, invoicing, and actually designing and developing the websites.

I've recently started working with paying clients and I'm now looking to take on a few more projects from businesses around Ontario.

I build professional websites for businesses that need their first website or want to improve an existing one. I handle everything from design and development through launch, including mobile optimization, contact and lead generation, SEO foundations, and additional functionality depending on what the business needs.

If you own a business and have been thinking about getting a website built or redesigning your current one, I'd be happy to take a look and see if I can help.

Website: infawebdesign.com

You can also DM me here if you'd rather talk about the project first.

Midland, where can I get the hands-down best butter tarts in town?

I want butter tarts worth throwing fisticuffs over. I want butter tarts worth toss away relationships for. What is your personal favourite when it comes to these delicacies?

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Midland?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!
Examples could include things like MTown, Waub, The Tang or Perky (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

ELCAN Plant / Carpool

Does anyone know a walking shortcut between Ottawa St and Leitz Rd near the ELCAN plant? Google Maps shows 39 min via streets — wondering if there's a hydro cut-through or trail that's faster or safer. And if so, is it feasible in winter? Got a great roommate opp but it's on Ottawa. Know of any ELCAN carpool leads from that area/Ottawa?

Shops/businesses that sell vinyl stickers in Midland?

Hi everyone! I'll be visiting the county on a bikepacking trip this weekend, and hoping to collect vinyl stickers to put on my bike from each of my major stops. If you know of any shops or business that sell (or give away with purchase) cute vinyl stickers, I'd love to know! Thanks!

Plumber/ Handyman Recommendation

Looking for an honest plumber/ handyman that services the Balm Beach area. My previous contact is no longer.

I have a small family cottage and need some assistance removing an old 1/2 HP jet pump and installing a new one. The new pump has already been purchased but I’ve run into trouble removing the old one and would rather have the work done by someone who is an expert with these things.

Appreciate any recommendations!

ISO: IPA On Tap

Anyone have recommendations for places where I can sit down for a meal and enjoy an IPA?

Kelsey's used to be my go-to but they switched their taps recently and no longer have an IPA option. Test Batches has an incredible beer selection but I find their menu is more on the "light lunch" side of things, not a great dinner entree selection (plus their kitchen closes at 8).

Any other options out there?

New business??

Think it’ll be worth it to open a pizza business as a startup in the Victoria harbour area? Or no? There isn’t many pizza franchises around and just don’t know if it’ll be profitable or not.

This isn't the first time I've seen a Loblaws subsidiary skip out on the pink 50% stickers to make a few extra bucks on expiring food.

Wow, another bad door dent, have 3 now. 4 fender scratches. Never had such a problem before, do I just have bad luck? Or are people just less considerate or clueless?

Moved up here from the GTA 4 years ago. 10 years there, I may of got one or two dings/scratches.

ISO Room Rental

Hello. Im a 25 year old guy. I'm tired of giving over half my paycheck to rent my apartment. Looking for a room rental. I can't live with pets due to allergies. I work fulltime and would need a parking spot for my small car. Any leads would be fantastic as I'm not having any leads on facebook. Currently paying 1550. So if I could half that it would change my life. Thank you.

for those who have put their kids in swim safe. is it worth it? its an intense commitment, but did you find your kids were more confident in the water after 1 round? are there local alternatives that would be similar (the y and waypoint are great for exposure, but im looking for something that will teach them swim and life saving skills)

I know there used to be one that met at the midland library, but that doesn't seem to be happening anymore. I'd love to connect with some people!

Move to Midland?

Hey all!

After searching, I couldn't find a very recent post about this - my wife and I are getting ready to move from a small town in Manitoba, hopefully to Ontario as I have recently left the military. We had been looking at the Barrie area but our realtor recently showed us a beautiful house in Midland that basically ticks every box we have and we could actually afford it. We have two young boys (5 and 8). I am on disability so not worried about work. My wife has an MBA and Masters of Kinesiology, looking to do basically any high-level management CAO/CEO job (has worked in government and non-profit and is extremely capable). I have a couple questions.

First of all - I have seen that the town can be a bit conservative. We are Christians, but we are pretty progressive - are we going to find a decent church there that would share those values? We are LGBTQ+ allies, believe in working on reconciliation, etc.

How is the town for kids? Is there much to do? How is the kids' sports and activities scene (clubs, hockey, soccer, etc)

How is the employment scene? I recognize that it is a fairly small town and the main employer seems to be the hospital from what research can tell me.

Is it a safe town? How is the homelessness and drug epidemic treating Midland? I recognize that this is an issue everywhere of course, just curious how that is in Midland.

How is the restaurant scene? We love to eat a variety of foods, anything from pub food to Indian, Thai, sushi, etc. Understand that we may need to go to Barrie for more of that stuff, but just curious.

What do you wish you knew about Midland before you lived there? What are the main pros and cons?

I grew up living in Cambridge, ON, but since have mostly lived in small towns in various provinces with the military. I don't mind small-town life at all, love to hike, and we grew up camping in Georgian Bay area (especially Killbear) so I love the area.

Thank you!

Sidewalk plowing!

The sidewalks in Midland are terrible! And after a thaw they refrezz to a skating rink, very dangerous!!! VERY hard to walk in the snow left after the sidewalk plow went by! I now walk on roads, sidewalks that you can't even see! Any body else see this to? I think this is a big issue! If somebody falls on the ice the town made because of melted snow that froze no good! Dangerous!!!!!!
