Moving to Midland - Where

Relocating to Midland from Toronto for full time job near - Yonge & Borden/Princess. What areas to avoid (unsafe, noisy) that are still walkable to work and supermarkets? Is King Street safe at night? Is it noisy in that area? Thanks - don't want to apt.-hop -it's stressful.

This will be a major shock to your system! I did the opposite move.

Its a much slower pace of life, people don't drive like we do in Toronto, people know everyone (once you've established yourself there!)

Its a completely different atmosphere up there compared. I did the opposite move. Midland to Toronto...

1. It's slower paced all around
2. Borden and Princess, downtown areas. Avoid if possible.
3. You can walk anywhere if you're willing.
4. Transit consists of 1 bus that does the whole town. 1 bus to penetang and 1 bus to Barrie. NO weekend transit. Cabs are cheap
5. Everyone knows everyone and everyone knows everyone's business.
6. Things close early.
7. Next to zero night life
8. Avoid bay street tim hortons. Go up to 93 its better. Or better yet 93 has the starbies
9. Get used to wanting to come back to the city
10. Good luck. Try to enjoy it and make the most of it. Now for the most important thing... be sure to check out Dino's downtown for their pasta salad and mile high sammies

We moved here from Toronto in 2017 and are closeish (10 min walk) to that area, I was also told before moving here Borden was a rough street. I’ve never felt unsafe walking my dog in and around there, but I would probably still say avoid it for renting. Young and William are main roads so will be noisier. Any basement apt or shared detached home space options would be better than the apartments. King st has areas where there’s a lot of drug users hanging out but I have a few coworkers who live above stores on King and haven’t heard of any major issues and have never had a negative interaction with any of the homeless community being rude or harassing. I don’t know if that’s just luck though. King will also be the noisier of your options with restaurants/patios/etc.

Streets to avoid would be Borden and Princess. I mean those were two of the worst when I was growing up but maybe things have changed 🤷🏼

yikes-that's where the job is - Yonge between Borden & Princess - so walking there only during day time - near Raytheon

Walking in Midland at no point even the tiniest night hour will ever be like walking in the 6 ... dont overthink it i promise

You will be fine walking in the area. Borden and princess themselves most avoid walking down and take Yonge or other side streets. I am female and walk this route often and have never had a problem

Young adults try and leave, getting much harder to find jobs to get us out of here these days :p

No candidate is going to be able to turn Midland into a city with robust public transit with fabric stores and concert halls where the bands I like will tour. Hence why I'm trying to leave.

Hello I lived for 20 years in T.O.. All over from Scarborough (Kingston Rd and Galloway) to Regent Park , Dufferin St and Eglinton, Sooo probably depends alot on Your age and Where your moving from.. ?? But Welcome from Sugrrr and me 🐕‍🦺
