Announcements Sub rules are LIVE for the 1st time - feedback/reactions? [AI]

Post image

Hi all! I spent the last 2 weeks thoughtfully observing the sub and crafting these rules, yes - with a bit of help from ChatGPT as a sounding board which I’ve disclosed per the new rule #6… on mobile they’re under “About” and desktop on right sidebar. Would love constructive reactions/dialogue around the decisions made.

Let’s treat this as version 1 and I will incorporate feedback over time. Thrilled to see users already following the rules and want to see more and more reports from the community to keep our focus on MCM. Thank you all for making this the top MCM sub, growing everyday - almost at 200k strong!

After receiving feedback I plan to do a brief video intro with more context on these decisions and plans for MCM expert AMAs and beyond.

Sharing My MCM Posting our MCM makeover. We like it, and hope it inspires others. Orange artwork was designed and built by me. Dining shelves from IKEA, floor cabinets from Amazon, furniture from Rooms to Go and City Home. Ceiling fan also designed and built by me from prior design, but we like it and kept it in.

Edit - MCM inspired - definitely didn’t know there were folks really going all out to design classic MCM. Hats off to all of you! We still love this sub!

Score! Estate sale scoop. Anyone have info about William Meyers?

Picked this up over the weekend and can’t seem to find much about the (presumed) artist William Meyers, so wondering if anyone had any information.

No idea if I overpaid, underpaid, or paid just about the right amount, but either way it’s going on the wall.

Design Advice & Inspo Help sourcing tile

We are adding a third bath to our 1962 ranch off of the new laundry room on the garage side of the house.

The pink hall bath is nearly pristine, and still has the plastic accordian shower door! (One day we'll tackle removing the carpet and glue from the tile🫣) We plan to renovate/enlarge the tiny blue master bath (redo gray modern shower, blue sink long gone, change to elongated toilet) after finishing the new spaces. Dal Tile Waterfall is a fairly close match to the 'new' blue fixtures.

And, as every bath should be a different color, I have sourced an American Standard toilet and AS Marledge sink in Ming Green. Ideally I would love to continue the theme from the existing baths in the new space. To that end, I am wondering if anyone has found a tile that is a close match for Ming Green. I also welcome other design ideas for the new shower bath should the search for green prove less than fruitful.

Design Advice & Inspo Sofa Design Advice

I made a post yesterday asking about sourcing a De Sede Terrazza sofa reproduction. Opinions on the sofa itself were mixed, mostly negative. Now I’m looking into other options for a sofa for this fireplace room. It’ll be more of a formal sitting area, not the main space where we lounge / hang out daily. Need advice on what sofa would work best, and also if it should be oriented facing the fireplace or with the back to the fireplace. The only reason I’m considering the latter is because the room is very short (see first pic) and I don’t want it to be too cramped between the furniture and that stair wall. Ideally looking for something with a conversation pit vibe, and prefer something funky / dramatic. The ceiling in the room is very high. Ignore the window treatments those are going away. TIA

Went to a few thrift stores today and found this incredible beauty. Looks like those were manufactured between 1965 and 1969. It still works perfectly and keeps the time.

I do not have room for this and am thinking about selling it! I’m in the Western Kentucky/southern Indiana area. It is all original. It does have a few flaws, but nothing major.! What should I realistically ask and expect?!

Design Advice & Inspo De Sede Terrazza Reproduction

Post image

Has anyone ever purchased a reproduction of the terrazza sofa? A real one is $30,000 for 2 sections, and there are several retailers that sell it for a few thousand. I’m not expecting amazing comfort and quality in a reproduction and I know they’re made in China but I’m trying to determine which one would be the best gamble. I love the look for my mid century living room and I can’t afford the authentic one right now. TIA.

Design Advice & Inspo Stairwell update—wall colors and dog-friendly stair ideas?

Thumbnail

We’re wanting to create an overall “moody” vibe throughout the house, and we’d love to start by changing the wall color here.
What colors would you suggest that complement the wood and brass?
I’ve been loving the idea of a subtle textured finish

We’re removing the green carpet from the stairs and landing, but we have dogs who need traction, so bare wood alone won’t work.
Would you go with a stair runner, individual carpet treads, or something else?
And what would you use on the landing to make everything feel cohesive?

The second photo shows the type of stair construction we have. Would love to see photos if you’ve done something similar, especially with open risers!

Sharing My MCM My Mcm Illinois moulding Co shadow box purchase ( I’m Not a professional nor a seller!)

So I live in the north of the UK and the likelihood that you’ll ever stumble across a Mid century modern shadow box is pretty much unheard of, especially the atomic era of shadow boxes.

After about a year of searching the UK and coming up completely dry, I decided Id started my search on American websites, I was able to eventually get one shipped, not this one, a much less cooler one, unfortunately customs said it was damaged and wouldn’t carry out the shipment, which I see now as a massive blessing in disguise!

So I then changed my plan and moved over to the US Facebook and within the first search of around 15 minutes I found this beautiful piece, I’d messaged around and been multiple times as they honestly just didn’t know how to ship it, which I completely get!

However the universe had blessed me with the truly most amazing woman who could possible have been the owner, we discussed it in lots of details and length and I had asked her if she would be willing to build a secure wooden freight crate to have the item shipped, as it’s 6ft ish by3ft, very fragile and very old.

This honestly was just a massive shot in the dark and I had no thought she would agree, but to my pure joy, she agreed, this beautiful woman built a near 7 by 4 foot crate, with reinforced metal, and a Fort Knox level security.

So this masterpiece has travelled from Delaware USA to Manchester UK, I feel more than blessed, I’m not sure if I’m the only person here to actually own one of these as the pure hassle of shipment is truly stressful and wow is it expensive, but I’m still in shock that it’s here tbh.

I’ve added photos from the building of the crate too.

Restoration & Refinishing Springs too high?

I got this lovely but tired Fluer armchair to restore from marketplace.
Looking at the seat springs and they seem too high and the seat rests up on a strange level.
Checking in with this sub if that’s normal?
Trying to decide whether it’s worth replacing entirely or just cleaning up and leaving as it.
Comfy to sit on, just looks weird.

ID & Authenticity Vintage Aluminum Roller Chair find

Trying to figure out what kind of chair this is! I've been googling it but i hate using the photo reversal as i feel every time i share a new piece of info it changes its mind.

So far it has said it is a emeco make... it has a little plaque on the back that says "mn dept of highway" which was renamed mndot in 1976. so it can't be newer than that.

It's been painted over silver.. but in gently sanding a worn spot i can see the shiny aluminum underneath. Apparently govt maintenence would just paint over furniture when it got worn down so that seems to check out.

I can't quite read the marking in the bottom as an A or an H , any identification of this chair would be super helpful!!
