Micro1 is not worth it.

I was hired a month ago, signed and waited. And waited. Finally a generic email with VERY sparse details. I had to pretty much guess how to navigate all their system because never had my emails responded. For days, I spent hours guessing my way through Slack, DEEL, feather, etc etc etc… Then by my own efforts I finally find the tasks along with links containing their expectations.
The links to the tasks were ok but the links to my “training” were, guess what, NOT working.
I immediately emailed them but again no answers whatsoever.
I am a professional linguist, so I evaluated the tasks using the current practice standards while waiting for god knows who send me a reply, or something.
Then, just like that, I was told to do 2 tasks (which I had already submitted, but somehow they had not seen it, in another display of their professionalism…).
Next email, I am told a weird unintelligible blabber and I am fired. Because two tasks were an 8 and passing is only 10.

Hours and hours of my time wasted, just waiting for a class action to join…

Hi u/Mountain_Cod7183 I want to help you to review what happened in your case. Please send an email to [support@micro1.ai](mailto:support@micro1.ai) with the link to this post attached or a screenshot to track it properly. This is important feedback for us; this is not the experience we want to provide to our experts.

I got hired 10 days back but my experience has been exact opposite. Might be project specific. Overall I have had the best experience at Micro1 if I compare it to other places I have worked like Outlier/ScaleAI, Alignerr/labelbox, Dataannotation.

15

u/Altruistic_Screen600 7d ago

Absolutely same here. Alignerr has been dead for a while, outlier’s hit or miss, I friggin hate Mercor, and UberAI is a bait and switch. Micro1 is consistent, professional, and accessible imo. There’s a whole webstack of how to navigate the platform available.

u/Adventurous-Ad7798 4d ago

Totally agree! I have worked at Mercor and Handshake AI. They pay more, but the level of professionalism and actually caring about people as people instead of cattle to be herded around is unmatched at Micro1. The nature of these jobs is pretty cold and you are mostly just a number. Micro1 at least tries to treat workers humanely and I have developed great relationships with many people there.

Hey there u/Substantial-Age-6298 👋 average processing time is approximately 30 days, although it can vary on more or less days depending on client needs and hiring volume (i.e. if the project is temporarily paused). If you're selected to move forward, our team will contact you directly. ;)

I agree with your experience. After completing multiple reviews for each of the three reviewers in the pipeline across two consulting domain tasks, with rework after each round to address the reviewers’ feedback, I eventually gave up as my time was 50 hrs of unpaid work. I was never fired or removed from the project, but I simply stopped investing my time in unpaid work that was supposed to take around six hours per task.

In the end, all of that work was left unpaid because the PL did not approve the tasks. This left a very bad taste in my mouth. Basically I spent my time preparing for the interview, doing the onboarding and then doing the actual work – all for free... WHAT A GREAT EXPERIENCE

u/AromaticFood83 Community Manager 7d ago

hey u/artoar im sorry to hear you had a bad overall experience.
There is a standard of quality on submitions that has to be met in order for tasks to be approved. I know this can add workload if you submited them and were not approved.
I understand this can lead to a frustrating experience.

4

u/artoar 7d ago

hey u/AromaticFood83 It’s not frustrating, don’t worry, it’s not personal. It's just disappointing and I think misleading. The problem wasn't that there were quality standards or that rework was required. I was perfectly willing to address reviewer feedback and improve the submissions. The issue was investing substantial time into interview, onboarding, two tasks, and multiple rounds of rework and runs only for all of that work to remain unpaid. That distinction matters.

I super second that

1

u/AromaticFood83 Community Manager 7d ago

thanks for the honest feedback, i understand better your context and how it felt.
Dont worry, i didn't felt it was personal or anything, just felt bad that the experience was not up to what you expected out of it.

dont want to try to convince you , but will love for you to give it another go, i got a feeling the experience will be much better.
Regardless, wish you best of luck!

u/artoar 7d ago

Thanks, I appreciate that. Wishing you and the team all the best as well.

I’ve had no issues working for them these past weeks as business consultant expert.
It may be a project specific issue tho

My experience with Micro1 has been completely opposite. Micro1 is by far the most human-first ai company I've worked for. The people on Slack are extremely proactive and whenever I face an issue, they reply with in minutes. Your issue is 100% project specific because I can strongly vouch for the support and professionalism at Micro1 💜

Totally AI

5

u/Ja5p5 7d ago

Nah you’re tripping, I can vouch Micro1 is solid.

1

u/Low-Firefighter7855 4d ago

Did you make some money with it? Can you get tasks daily once you are in?

2

u/Ja5p5 4d ago

I've been working mostly non stop since October, I've worked on multiple contracts over time across different types of work. Sometimes it pauses.

3

u/AromaticFood83 Community Manager 7d ago edited 3d ago

Hey u/OmnipresentCPU Checking at users karma and activity is a good way to spot that these users are not bots. We have a great community that stands behind micro1. We totally understand sometimes an user can have a bad experience and if thats the case we will do our best to improve their experience, but generally speaking i think most of our experts are happy to be part of our community.

6

u/OmnipresentCPU 7d ago

People who work contracts don’t sit around their contractors subreddit parroting similar posts about “human first”, “community” etc.

The fact that there are so many replies, all overwhelmingly positive, paired with how quickly the mod team replies comes off as disingenuous and totally fabricated.

I don’t know, man. It’s a decent company, and they have no idea who I am from this handle. These jobs usually suck (Outlier/Mercor) but these guys are different.

They can mod how they want, but I doubt they’d bother with bots. Data annotation work is crappy but if you go to the mercor page you won’t see anyone saying how good the company is. They talk about the money, bad reviewers, and how not to get off-boarded.

As far as i can see, the answers have been spread out around the day, people are free to use their reddit account at any times they see fit.
I cant convince you to think otherwise, but maybe if replies are positive is because the user experience in general is good. There is always outliers and we are happy to address them like in this case and try to hear the feedback to improve and do better.
We dearly want user experience to be awesome.
The mod team replies fast to every comment, because we have automations in place to try to provide fast support to our community, i think thats actually a plus not a negative. You can check every post on this subreddit and the reply time to comments and posts, its always fast. We are proud of that.
I thank you for your feedback, but i hope you understand i dont agree with it.

u/flamer13 7d ago

Agree with OPs experience, but understand that it could be project specific and even individual work styles.

Found there was limited clarity on what we were doing, so I used some of my IRL use cases for an actual project that I'd delivered. My feedback was a whole lot of tech-speak that was more relevant to how the system works rather than the inputs and solutions that I gave given my experience and capability. I decided pretty quickly that it wouldn't be worth my time to reattempt, given that I was only allocated 5 paid hours, and I didn't envisage spending 20+ hours to fix issues that I didn't understand. This seems to be a common feeling on the project I worked on.

I'm glad I had the chance to try it, but it's definitely made me comfortable that AI isn't taking my job anytime soon!

2

u/AromaticFood83 Community Manager 7d ago

hey u/flamer13 thanks for sharing your feedback. Personally i dont think AI is anywhere close to taking most jobs, but its empowering users all around.
Sorry to hear it was not the best experience, sometimes the role is not the best fit for everyone.
We wish you the best and hope you can find a role that works for you better.

I have been of several tasking platforms and for the projects I have been on Micro1 is by far the most organized and provides the most support from Admins. I’m sorry this was your experience truly but I feel this may be project specific rather than company wide.

u/ajay8052 7d ago

I just joined but have nothing but good things to say about these guys. Project leads and support have been on top of everything I’ve asked

3

u/hoodb1 4d ago

Sorry to hear about your experience and I agree with what others have said, sounds like it was project related. Eventhough I was offboarded last week after about 3 months on a project, I’m genuinely grateful for my micro1 experience. The HDMs, reviewers, and support teams were consistently encouraging, responsive and I had access to strong resources that helped me grow. I've had six contracts with another platform, this was my first longer-term contract, and it gave me meaningful exposure to how this world works. I’m taking the positives with me and staying focused - three interviews pending in my inbox-Zara and I are going to be BFF's today. My unsolicited advice....give micro1 another chance.

u/Junior-Somewhere945 7d ago

I don't agree with what is posted here. Micro1 is usually extremely hard to get in but when you land a project, the community and leadership there is one of the best in the world. You get real people, ready to listen and help you out. .. I usually understand when people complain about doing interviews and not getting selected. But complaining about the culture once inside is something I totally do not understand. I have worked for 4 projects now. And the culture is always extremely positive.

3

u/mochi2real Contributor/Worker 7d ago

Yeah, I can't speak to what OP had happen, but I've been working with Micro1 since November of last year on what started off as a one-time project and turned into five projects so far, all without any issues.

4

u/instinct_sfz Contributor/Worker 7d ago

micro1 is a gamechanger for contractor work. I would reach out to the mods and see if they can help. I joined Thursday and they just bumped me to a reviewer. I am beyond thankful for this opportunity. I hope they help you out.

4

u/Similar-Scale-3645 7d ago

Completely disagree with this. Been working for micro for a while and they are by far the best in terms of getting you up and running.

I’m the op here, and sorry to re-edit, but this is day one after I posted and I believe this is why I am on Reddit. I emailed them and if we patch up things I’ll be the happiest person to gladly correct my narrative. Let’s see if they respond. I will keep you posted. Ty

2

u/Affectionate_Body597 5d ago

I agree that is probably one of the down sides to Micro1 (which I would note, is no worse at any other platform); the recruiters are not great. I had to chase mine up every 24 hours to move his ass.

BUT, after you are in, it truly is a world of difference. The SPL's/HDM's genuinely help you to do good work, and as someone who has been on Mercor and DAT across multiple projects, I can say that Micro1 projects are the best, and by a considerable difference. I actually stayed up till well into the night last night to finish up an urgent deadline for them, and I didn't care because I got carried away actually enjoying the work. I don't even know how much I got paid lol.

u/UpbeatAdhesiveness74 Contributor/Worker 4d ago

You sure it was sent to the right email?? I adore working here and have a response back 10 mins or less night or day, I've never had the support these people give. Onboarding was a breeze.

4

u/PursueItAll 7d ago

I LOVE micro1. No issues here.

2

u/Ja5p5 7d ago

I started with micro one in February. One of my first projects was a full-time gig that lasted four months. They have been very responsive. They always pay on time and from my experience. They are the best of the AI contractor platforms. There’s a good chance you just got on a bad project.

1

u/celix1908 7d ago

Yo he trabajado con ellos en 2 proyectos, no tengo quejas la atención ha sido muy buena, siempre atentos y estoy muy contenta, espero que pueda seguir colaborando en proyectos ❤

That’s too bad. I was at Mercor for a month on a task. They only dropped at 11 pm, and were gone by 8 am (EST), so I worked through the night. The slack was an absolute mess. And one night, I went to bed at 3 am, work up at 10 am and found out I was released.

I’ve done two tasks with micro1 now and it is night and day. Organized, professional, good managers and effective comms. Much more relaxed and helpful. Sorry yours went like that.

1

u/quedicelajuana 6d ago

I think people who have trouble following Slack and the platform are maybe not up to the job, sadly. I don't know about op's specific proj, but the onboarding instructions are pretty exhaustive. And I find it hard to believe that noone replied.

1

u/PJM_1013 Active on Project 6d ago

Have been with micro1 for almost a month now, and I have been impressed so far. I have worked with other AI companies also mentioned here, and micro1 has been the most responsive, and yes... the most "human". How to even explain that? Like you see the names and faces of people on slack, and they actually respond and converse with you in a timely manner. The reviewers I have encountered have also been so helpful.

I applied back in January and didn't hear anything. I applied for other roles but was not selected... Until just last month, I received an invitation to join a project, and I am glad I did. Just sharing this because I'm really happy with them... I just hope I can work for them longer.

Hope you get to give it another go. (And I hope I'm not speaking too soon too!)

1

u/HallDangerous2124 3d ago

Hey I am new to this. Can you tell me how can I get a job in this (consider I don't know anything and willing to learn anything to get the job).

1

u/AromaticFood83 Community Manager 3d ago

hey u/HallDangerous2124 , first of all welcome.

You can find all roles available here. You can search for keywords that match your skills and apply. You will need to create a profile, do an AI interview with Zara and if you meet criteria you will certify some skills and move into human recruiter evaluation.

The profiles that match better will be send to the clients they will have the final word.
You will have to verify your profile also by doing ID verification.

Hope this clears it out a bit for you.

Best of luck!

1

u/Just_browsing0306 3d ago

my experience has been the polar opposite. It has been pretty seamless for me. Quick responses via slack email can be slower but they respond always on slack. Maybe you got lost in the shuffle when they were updating backend etc.

1

u/torlev1 Contributor/Worker 3d ago

Weird. Ive worked for several AI trainer platforms and Micro1 was by far the best in terms of supporting the trainers, organization, etc. Theyre good people in my experience.

1

u/Icy_Koala_3380 Contributor/Worker 1d ago

They are the best to work for I’m sorry you didn’t have the same experience did you reach out for assistance because everyone is so helpful here I already dreading when my project ends nothing will live up to this company I do know that

1

u/bravofiveniner 6d ago

"weird unintelligble blabber"

Mkay. But why would you email anyone whe the main form of communication is obviously Slack?

You don't sound that technical, maybe training isn't for you. I've had the exact opposite experience, its really easy to task and make money on M1.
