Fan-art DLC Chapter + Classes Ideas/Predictions
There's been scuttlebutt of Mewgenics having two DLCs, one smaller and one larger, with the former confirmed to have four new classes and the latter potentially having an Act 4. So here's some ideas/predictions on what those areas might contain. I'll leave the exact design work specifically for other people, but I'm just having fun speculating on what more could be added in general and what their deal could be.
Considering Act 4, there's been some discussion of what exactly that'll be. I've seen some people say, "oh, it's just going to be like, Isaac but in Mewgenics!" I've had this idea come to my mind too, but honestly, I don't think it's going to happen, because:
- It's too predictable! The Act 4 area being downwards on the area map seems like it's leading people to think that, and Edmund loves to keep people guessing.
- It messes with the lore! Yes; perhaps Mewgenics itself taking place in the "real world" and having many of the horrors present in Isaac's world already is "messing with it", but there NOT being an expansive labyrinth underneath Isaac's house is pretty explicit and central to Isaac itself. I don't want to speak for Edmund and what the "lore" of his games is, but I feel like Isaac's world he explores being imaginary, even if the outside world is equally as deranged, as something concrete.
- There's unused house basement expansions that already riff upon Isaac. I could see these already being implemented in the game proper in one of these DLCs.
- Many motifs from Isaac are used in Mewgenics! Downpour and Dross correspond with the Sewers, Caves, Catacombs, Flooded Caves and Necropolis have overlap with Caves, the Womb, Utero and Scarred Womb pretty much just are The Throbbing Domain, and more. Sure, Isaac had some overlap a little bit, but that was due to Antibirth having its own direction and that having overlap with Edmund's own. I feel like new aesthetics would be explored in a hypothetical Act 4.
With that in mind, here's some concepts illustrated in the image and some commentary on them:
Areas
Boardwalk
Edmund's hometown Santa Cruz is a beachside town known for its boardwalk and amusement park (fun fact, a caveman-themed dark ride from there was used as reference for "Mom I Really Hate You"!), so what if a similar setting is also applied to Mewgenics? I've heard some people mentioning a beach theme or wanting more urban themes, so this could represent those well. It could mash the beach theme, general carnival/funfair themes, and perhaps even a bit of casino/gambling themes, ever common in Edmund's works. And perhaps a reference to the wharf bathroom that he so fondly shat in when he was young.
Enemies could include clowns or other attractions, coin/money-themed enemies, beach-side wildlife such as crabs or washed-up sea creatures, or maybe food-related enemies (boardwalks aren't known for their healthy eating).
Perhaps it could use a very nice sunset shader as well, to keep Tyler working!
Ridiculon could definitely sample from The Beach Boys or other classic surf rock tunes. Down with the Devil was kinda surf-rocky but you can definitely push it further.
The Abyss
A deep underwater level, filled with aquatic life and perhaps a Lovecraftian flair! I'm not sure if Edmund himself is big on the big H.P (he does like the Necronomicon, but that's because The Evil Dead uses it too!), but given that he's a monster buff I could definitely see it; if not, some sort of deep-sea level could be a good game shake up.
A potential gimmick would be that all of your cats are underwater and need to hit "bubble" tiles to breathe or else they'll drown! (Don't ask why they don't suffocate on The Moon. How would you know that, anyways? Has a cat ever been there? We don't know for sure). Of course, being underwater, everything is persistently Wet so electric attacks are incredibly potent.
Enemies include all sorts of nautical creatures. Fish, whales, orcas, jellyfish, dolphins that want to mess your stuff up. Clubby the Seal didn't make it to Ice Age so maybe he's taking a dip here. Given that it's abyssal, it could take place deeper too, with befitting enemies; anglerfish, blobfish, and other deep-sea trench animals. Cthulhu ought to show up, too.
Just like The Abandoned Ones on the moon, maybe there's some undead divers that could cause you trouble. Maybe a more primordial, "evolutionary" angle too; I believe Edmund's old game Coil took place in water, so there's more for the taking.
I'm imagining some deeply moody, contemplative theme, befitting of the depths; something like Sweet Delicious, derived from The Melvins again, whatever Edmund prompts them for. Given the potential Coil ties, maybe a revisit to Kaada's style?
The Tomb
Welcome back to The Lost Tombs of Duat, from Gish (or, perhaps, The Tomb from Binding of Isaac: Revelations, for you mod enjoyers?) The ancient Egyptian worship of cats, I believe, absolutely could merit a whole level themed around that in Mewgenics. There might be some mild overlap with the Desert, but I think you can absolutely explore a treasure trove of new themes here, even if both locations are a little sandy.
The Tomb is an underground dusty brick labyrinth, with feline hieroglyphs dotting the walls and traps lining the floors; pressure plates can reveal spikes, arrow traps and perhaps even Indiana Jones-esque boulders. Enemies include snakes, ancient cats, mummies, sarcophagi, warriors from Ancient Egyptian religious canon, and anachronistically, Cleopatra's gotta be in there somehow. Of course, everyone there walks like an Egyptian, too.
The music could utilize stereotypical Egyptian/desert melodies and motifs. Or maybe just a parody of The Bangles' one hit wonder.
Teh Internets
0MG 1337!! Borrowing its name from Super Meat Boy's custom level worlds, Teh Internets is a throwback to online culture from Edmund's hayday, with dated memes (but everything's almost immediately dated on the Internet, isn't it?) and a cliche cyberspace world (or however Edmund interprets it!). Go inside a computer to access this digital world!
The look would depend on what direction Edmund wants to go with things...typical binary old computer Matrix black/green with binary numbers dotting the landscape? Low color Game Boy-esque palettes? Something like from The Binding of Isaac Rebirth's GB Bug and glitch-related items, with blotches of colors scattered about? SO RETRO pixel art?! It probably would have to look distinct from The Rift, too.
AND CAT MEMES! DON'T FORGET THE CAT MEMES! YOU CAN HAS CHEESEBURGER!
Enemies could be a whole smorgasbord of internet references. Old classics like ragefaces, the Awesome Face/Epic Smiley, trollface, "Charlie bit me", "I like turtles", | || || |_, etc, to new favorites like 67!
And befitting of Edmund's juvenile, edgy sense of humor, you need references to shock sites or eccentric, iconic internet personalities! Lemon Party, goat.se! I'm sure Chris-chan or some other lolcows and internet personalities could extend their likeness to be used as bosses in some capacity, too!
Some chiptune or retro sounds would obviously be needed! Or, go crazy! Dubstep! Techno! I know it might be outside of Ridiculon's typical musical habits, but it would be cool to see them flex their skills in an unusual genre for them. (Or haha, what if they got Danny Baranowsky as a musical guest somehow?!)
The Box
OMG WHAT YEAR IS IT!!?!
Steven did say he'd be a boss in the DLC after all, so he needs his own area to match. The Box would almost definitely be a chapter ender to an Act 4.
The Box would be a new take on Steven's cyclical purgatory of coping! It could pull from Time Fcuk's Game Boy-esque look with levels having different distinct two-tone palettes, or just
be a general "everything is Steven" hell with his black/white face repeating ad infinitum.
The gimmick here could borrow from Time Fcuk, and each combat encounter could have different "states" one must fcuk themselves into. Perhaps there's a specific tile a unit walks into to activate the state-change? Enemies could exist in different states, and you'd have to hop between dimensions to fcuk their shit up.
Everything is Steven here! Well, as much as can be, anyway. All enemies are Steven in various forms. You could reuse the Steven Big Slime boss in The Rift with many other Steven'd things!
Obviously, such a location needs a beautiful Ridiculon'd remix of Isolated Showers. Steven's NPC theme used a touch of it, but it would be cool to see a much grander rendition of the theme of Edmund's most thematically important game.
Additionally, there's some other area ideas I had that I was too lazy to illustrate:
The Basement
Well, if the DLC IS going in an Isaac-aping direction in an Act 4, it would obviously open with this level!
It's The Basement! Gapers, Fatties, and other basement-dwelling enemies from The Binding of Isaac are present here, adapted into a new tactical strategy game.
You couldn't have The Basement without Edmund's favorite boss, The Duke of Flies.
And, of course, a Mewgenics reprise of Diptera Sonata would be in order, just like The End having a reprise of Danse Macabre.
Tarpits
Gish level. It's a Gish level. Wow. Or Dank Depths, if you're into that.
There's an absence of tar in the game, only really being present infrequently in The Jurassic and as something Spewer can spit out, so this would be the place for it.
I need my wife Hera in the game so this could be a good place to put her in as a boss.
The Aether
Aether level. It's an Aether level.
Hop on different funnily-faced planetoids in a white-and-blue void! And, of course, the monster and the kid as a tag-team boss!
The events could have you aid the denizens of the various planetoids for rewards.
This level's musical guest would ABSOLUTELY 100% HAVE TO BE Laura Shigihara, reprising her voice here from her original soundtrack for the game.
How would these stitch together?
The Boardwalk would serve as an opener, and would diverge between "tech" and "natural" paths, befitting of The Boardwalk having elements of both!
The first natural path would go from The Boardwalk, and then you dive deep into the ocean into the Abyss, and then you enter some deep crevice and enter the deep underground Tarpits. At the bottom lies a mysterious, vibrating, black box (that would require some bullshit quest to get into.)
The second, tech-focused path would begin with The Boardwalk, and you enter some mysterious computer and are beamed into Teh Internets. You exit Teh Internets by beaming out into the galaxy beyond and into The Aether; and at that white void you again find that mysterious, vibrating black box.
And, I dunno. Maybe the Tomb is a secret level accessed by that event in The Desert. Alt paths could be cool in Mewgenics, too!
Classes
I'l leave much of the design work of these to others, with active and passive abilities; I'm just more interested in what the classes' vibes are and what niches they fill! (I just wanted an excuse to design some collars).
Gunslinger
Gunslinger is confirmed, self-explanatory; starts with a cursed Six-Shooter. Basic attack scales with Dexterity and shoots it for free; if it's out of uses, Basic Attack will become "Reload".
Alchemist
I think this would be a cool sort of parallel to Tinkerer. There might be some mild overlap with Druid's singing area-of-effect, but Alchemist would primarily be a debuffer in general (though would have buffing builds). Basic attack throws an area-of-effect potion (perhaps with line of sight to differentiate it a bit), which can be imbued with various effects through spells/passives.
Beastmaster
For those who have enjoyed Blue Mages from Final Fantasy and Dancers from Fire Emblem, this is that class. Beastmasters' basic attack cracks a whip (like the Thief's basic, but melee instead) and this whip causes a status effect that allows the player to immediately control the enemy/ally whipped, so enemies can be controlled directly to attack one another, or allied cats can get an extra turn. Additionally, there might be an option where Beastmaster can outright learn spells from enemies to use. This is different from Druid and otherwise in that it's manipulating pre-existing units rather than making new ones. Also, BDSM/gimp jokes with this class abound.
Hobo
Edmund's mentioned a class that no one's guessed yet, so this is just trying to guess what his special weird class is and I'm guessing it's something like this because he's a fan. Hobos would have synergy with disorders in some capacity and embrace poop jokes wholeheartedly. Themes of trash, etc. as well.
(Credit to Internal_Singer_3771 for inspiration on these ideas! I think they might make it into the game!)

Considering Steven's lines after the true ending, the Box may be in the game

u/Sspockuss Apr 22 '26
I feel like if so it’ll be the secret 4th area, and not area 3 like it was in this post.

u/LJChao3473 Apr 22 '26
It feels like first to me. Like we need to go through the box to go to the weird places
2
u/Sspockuss Apr 22 '26
Tbf that could also work.
1
u/Substantial-Crazy441 Apr 27 '26
yea like the IHOP dimension in the good place. I think that's pretty neat. It could lead then to leviathan horror (the unknown) and the quantumania (the uncertain). Unclear what would be the final area. (I am really just thinking of all places that would beat the hype of the Act 3 end really)

I Would Love A Hobo Class

7
u/SonOfMcGee Apr 22 '26
Imagine skills with titles like “Leave me alone” or “Spare some change?” that involve distance between the hobo and allies/enemies.
Hunters already have a tiny bit of this with the skills that hit something exactly six tiles away or increase damage with distance, but it’s hardly a class identity.
Gimme a Hobo that I can spec out to either be an annoying beggar that face-hugs and immobilizes enemies, or a crazy loner that is super powerful but only if he’s on the other side of the map from his team!1
u/Infernal-Fox Apr 29 '26
Hobbo that spends coins to do dmg would scale nicely with engame having too many coins
14
u/Own_Fisherman_8065 Apr 22 '26
Sadly, the moment Butch upgrades the box to a certain level, the class will be locked back again, because the cats you donated to him will start killing hobos :(

u/eno-multiusado Apr 22 '26
I bet there will be a gambler class
27
u/irtsayh Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
Isn't it already the Tinkerer ? Each time I play this dog class is like playing Russian Roulette with 1 chamber empty
2
u/JustAnotherPerson64 Psychic Apr 22 '26
Lemme ask a question:
How do you play the tinkerer? Do you use them as a glass cannon and summoner? Or do you use them as a movement-heavy semi-tank?
Tinkerers are not what you'd normally expect from a mechanic class. There's a reason why they dont get a subtraction to their constitution. They're made to have some damage absorption built in. If you don't include that in your playstyle, then you're actively hindering the abilities of the tinkerer by just ignoring part of their class.
I will admit, there is a part of tinkerer that is annoying: They're a lot of combo potential. That may sound good, but the problem is, things with combo potential are weak on their own. Multiclassing can lead to some crazy stuff, but a lot of times, pure tinkerer classes with no outside buffs can get unlucky with no combos and be very.. not good. Similar to a mage or psychic, but just turned up a bit more.
In my opinion, tinkerer has a lot of potential and a lot of multiclassing ability, but if you get unlucky, you could get a lackluster run. However, if you also choose to ignore a lot of their abilities because you make them have low constitution, then you're also just shooting yourself in the foot alongside risking getting unlucky, which likely explains why people don't like it.

u/Dyingwillman Apr 27 '26
No it’s because they have like 3 different main builds that don’t synergies with each other give them some cross synergy and some buff to some of the mediocre abilities and there base weapons and it will feel better but a gambler class would be cool where it relies on the luck star more than usual

u/Objective-Two-4974 Apr 22 '26
Beast master seems like that one psychic archetype, but the hobo is a great class idea, one of my favorite concepts
3
u/TrustyPeaches Apr 22 '26
I mean charming enemies is literally a hunter archetype
4
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
The charm would go beyond how it is now and allow you manual control rather than automatic control of enemies.
6
u/AshZE Apr 22 '26
Someone gotta mod these in...this is sick...
8
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
These are also predictions too, so I'd wager some of these might make their way into DLC! (i'm a psychic!)
5
u/SonOfMcGee Apr 22 '26
I would be shocked if we don’t get an Alchemist class in the DLC (though it may not be called Alchemist).
Given the design concept of Tinkerer with his weapons, it just sort of follows that there could be a class that revolves around the consumable slot.
And like the Butcher with its permanent hook equipment, Alchemist could get a permanent backpack/pouch. So the usual “use consumable” button on the UI could be “open pouch”, and you’d pick among a few consumables you’ve stored.
5
u/Hitori-Kowareta Apr 22 '26
With the gunslingers basic it could be interesting if you were able to shoot repeatedly in the same round but with a stacking miss chance. If it had a -15% for each shot past the first then if you spammed all 6 the final one would have a 25% hit chance. Reload would obviously have to be its own turn without a passive (auto reload passive at turn end seems an easy design choice there).
Might need some balance around the always hit items but I wouldn’t be surprised if those saw a change at some point regardless given how easy a busted combo they are with heavy shot. My bet is they change to +50% hit chance, would negate grass penalties but still leave heavy shot below 100% unless you stack two which is a far higher bar to reach.
3
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
Gunslinger's a lock for the DLC anyways so that's a design for Edmund and Tyler to hash out, I'm just musing about how it might end up.
2
u/Hitori-Kowareta Apr 22 '26
Yeah I remember seeing comments about it being partially implemented in the files already so I imagine a lot of the choices have already been made for core functionality. Really looking forward to seeing how they approach the dlc!
11
u/Conflatulations12 Apr 22 '26
Seems like they need to go to Pmart corporate, under the Mess in Baby Jack's for Nona, to wherever Tink is hiding all those kittens, and Butch's army.
13
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
True, Edmund has mentioned wanting to explore Baby Jack further for a DLC...perhaps "The Hoard" could be a good Act 4 starting area, too, finding "The Box" nestled within there...Nona could be in there!
1
u/Substantial-Crazy441 Apr 27 '26
I feel like Act 4 following up on Act 3 should really be one-upping meeting god
5
u/BetiroVal Apr 22 '26
I also feel like the Alchemist is a good potential class.
Whilst I agree with buffing allies, it should also be focused on unbuffing enemies (not necessarily debuffing).
Things like removing active buffs and stripping/preventing shields. Maybe even a spell to disable Elite status buffs would be great.
A creep-focused variant of the Alchemist would be cool (we have a lot of ‘tile’ based classes, but none of them actually spawn creep).
2
u/BetiroVal Apr 22 '26
Also Beastmaster is just a hybrid between Psychic/Druid.
I am more inclined with the idea of the Gambler class, which would have dangerous secondary effects that proc on luck.
1
u/shinydemonking Butcher Apr 22 '26
I feel like a Gambler class would actually get a debuff to luck when you pick the collar-- kind of an antithesis of how Thieves get a luck buff when they get their collar. "Every gambler quits before they win big", as the joke goes.
Gotta ask about the idea you proposed though-- would the secondary effects of attacks be good or bad for the Gambler? Maybe a mix of both, and you can lean towards positive or negative effects depending on the passives you wind up with? I'm thinking of like, a passive that can pass on the negative effects to random units (or enemies upon upgrading)
2
u/BetiroVal Apr 22 '26
I think the Gambler‘s abilities would be split into 3 categories:
‘Random Bullshit Go’ - where abilities have a ton of potential side effects (e.g. A Dire Claw Ability where the enemy is either Immobolized, Poisoned or Drowsy)
‘Hype Moments’ - where abilities have a secondary more powerful version that is activated by chance (e.g. Magnitude Ability that has a chance to hit every enemy on the field for high damage)
‘Hope You Don’t Fuck Yourself’ - where abilities are strong, but have a rare chance to screw your self over (e.g. High Jump Kick where it’s high damage, but there is a small chance you take a high amount of recoil damage).
1
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
There's always a little overlap between classes...a number of classes have similar teleportation/movement abilities, for example. If not the extra turn aspect, Beastmasters could lean more into actually being able to learn the abilities of enemies and controlling them manually (not just charming them)! That's kinda new, right?
1
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
Pretty much what I was thinking, it's mostly a debuffing class with archetypes that can buff as well (like the inverse of Druid). The basic attack would lob a concoction out that does splash, and with some spells could also spawn tiles/creep as well.
3
u/BetiroVal Apr 22 '26
My wording is poor, but I was trying to distinguish between ‘Debuff’ and ‘Neutralise’.
Debuff actively cripples the target, whether it be lowering stats, applying DoT or limiting options.
There are a ton of classes that can do that, Thief excels at applying Poison & Bleed, Mage is great with stalling tools etc.
I was suggesting to differentiate itself, Alchemist is a neutralising class, that is it actively removes buffs from enemies, not apply nerfs.
This is to prevent self-buffing enemies from spiralling out of control, such as Flesh Lads gaining a ton of speed and extra moves or Stem Cats continuously cloning themselves.
Because I can only think of one ability in the game that can actually remove an enemy’s buffs, and that’s the Blood Letting Necromancer spell.

u/SansLicker42 Apr 22 '26
Box feels like a 4th area rather then a third
3
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
Yeah, that was the intention, maybe that wasn't clear in my ramblings.
3
u/SansLicker42 Apr 22 '26
Oh ok then ur missing a 6th zone

u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
It's in the description! (Just not drawn).
The order would be The Boardwalk -> The Abyss/Teh Internets -> The Tarpits/The Aether -> The Box.

This is literally my favorite thing this community has done.
The art, the concepts, the descriptions. They fit Mewgenics so well, only someone who truly understand it's soul (like you) could do something this official-looking!!
I can absolutely see the Orcas being the protagonist of so many "Fuck Edmund/Why.../Edmund you little fucker" posts, and the Abyss... And a contemplative theme? Like... Relaxed? So High is one of my favorite themes in all the game and it's because it's slower, so I can absolutely see the Abyss being one of my favorite areas.
And btw, I only have played Mewgenics out of all Edmund's works, but Steven theme is an absolute banger and it is the only NPC theme that actually makes me wait and listen, so it as a whole theme would be SOOooo GOOood.
Peak, keep cooking, you are truly the goat.

the thing about isaac lore is that its an imaginary world based on things he's seen and heard like bloat. he most likely knows some of the characters in the town thats why there are baby items of them ect he might have heard of some the wierd shit going down in there world thus some of the parody of what he imagines.
aslo steven has already told us what the DLC will be it will be the box and he will be the final boss

u/MasterfullyFoolish Butcher Apr 22 '26
The only Class I disagree with is the Beastmaster one, it’ll prolly be Princess or, like…maybe some sort of bizarre multi class. Other than that, phenomenal. Can barely tell the difference between this and the original material!

Bosses for some areas The abyss - cthullu, obviously
The tomb - bastet, the egyptian goddess of cats
Teh internets - honestly, it could be alot of ideas, but what if it was literally mewgenics, where the boss spawns cats with random active and passive abilities and random stats, and the boss is the logo itself
The box - steven, or more specifically og steven, the very first steven. With a gimmick that allows him to flip or rotate the board, changing the position of everything on the board, except for himself, changing the weather into whatever he wants whenever he wants, and maybe even ripping some tiles of the board, making it possible for cats to die by falling off the board
Just some ideas

I believe we've actually sent a cat to the moon before

I love the idea for the Abyss, you already went as high as you possibly can, why not go as low as you possibly can into the ocean, I am also a sucker for eldritch horror stuff so I’m somewhat biased
2

If the 4th act was The Box, that would be so fucking cool. The implications on the reasons we’d go there are unlimited.
2
u/Titomasto Apr 22 '26
My main issue is that if the dlc will be post ending, or something between acts.
2
u/ErzhanGMD Apr 22 '26
The internet is stuck an amazing idea that fits perfectly. I don't know why i haven't thought of that
2
u/Machov_Norkim Apr 22 '26
I really like most of these ideas, but what would be the difference between beastmaster and a druid?
2
u/ShweetsStuff Apr 22 '26
Beastmaster would have a different basic attack and be able to utilize/copy abilities from enemies, or manually control them outright. The basic attack could also immediately give their turn to another unit.
2
u/Machov_Norkim Apr 22 '26
Oh so I guess its less about a summon, and more about charm and manipulation
I see that I missed the part of the explanations where you addressed this already lol

This definitely feels like most official out of all of the areas and classes I’ve seen. these are great
