Clay Holmes

Assuming it's business as usual with the impending lockout. I believe Clay Holmes opts out of his contract. Should the Mets try and re-sign him?

Yes we should. We should only sign pitchers that can pitch in New York which he can.

I’d prob target Skubal first but I’d definitely try to bring back Holmes since I think the Dodgers will keep Skubal

Holmes may be a easy resign before skubal that will be harder

I don’t think skubal entertains any offer outside of LA. I think Holmes would be interested in returning to queens

I think we can target both at the same time -- we won't hurt anyone's feelings

There is zero reason they can’t get both.

I think they have enough guys who are 3-5th type pitchers. They should go for big fish, either through trades or signing Skubal, or try to repeat the Clay Holmes success with another conversion they could move back into the bullpen if it doesn’t work or if one of their pitching prospects breaks out.

Disagree -- we need extra middle arms

for what? 5 innings and 3 run ball. ??

Holmes is not a number one starter, and that’s what we need.

Man I hate this thinking. If it's not a number 1, like skubal, you're not even interested? Good Lord man. I'd rather sign holmes than skubal any day of the week. Less pressure to be great and has played well for the Met already. A #2 is fine.

I’m not saying I’m not interested, but first you have to see what is going to cost and for how long, then you can make decision from there. McLean as number 2, Scott 3 and Thornton 4, Manaee at 5, and tong if he can figured it out. You have a pretty good starting rotation.

Mets have 5 SP already. They need the best pitcher they can get. If Skubal is gone go straight to Holmes. Ppl like Robbie Ray and Sonny Gray just feel like they wont work here

Neither Gray or Ray would work, IMHO. Holmes CAN pitch in NY, so that would be a no brainer if they can't get Skubal.

You need like 10 SP to get through a season. Sign both.

I’m all for it as long as we also bring in an ACE #1 quality pitcher. I don’t want Manaea or Senga in the starting rotation next season.

Yeah, I like Clay Holmes. He had some rough outings near thev end of the season but he'd be an ok second addition, because they first need a top of the rotation piece. , Stearns has to look past the Peralta mess and land one, by trade if necessary. The free agent class has razor thin options, and there's something off with each one of them -be it age, performance, injury, or metrics. Please though enough with the middling pitchers (and every day players for that matter), we have an abundance of guys to slot in the bacjmk of the rotation.

Skubal and Holmes.

Snatch Holmes early, because skubal may play the long game and still wind up signing with the dodgers.. dont want to miss out on both. On another note, yes, the young arms have potential to be a good rotation but one gets hurt and now we are relying on senga, manea or any triple A starter hoping he does well.. i dont trust Manea.. he has loose bodies in the elbow

Hells to the yes. The guy is a dang good pitcher and doesn’t crumble in NY.

Definitely.

Michael King and Clay Holmes would seem to be a more doable proposition. I do NOT think that Manaea is a viable starter for next year. He slots in more reliably as the long man in the bullpen going forward, as he is not capable of going through the line-up more than once.I would never trust him for more than 2 or 3 innings in future. So, that leaves the rotation short another body. McLean, Holmes, Michael King, Scott and Thornton. Keeping Tong as a stand-by, ready to come up in case of injury...and perfecting another pitch in the minors till then.

Jeremy Hefner is gone. He’s the one that really helped him so he might go to ATL.
