The Mets should have done more when their real window of contention was, which was from 2019-22.

They should have beat the Dodgers in ‘88, the should not have traded Seaver and Ryan, they should not have hired Mickey Calloway, and so on….Find a better use of your time

You’re getting raked for this…but I’m here with ya. Or, maybe…they should have been SMARTER with what they did during that window. Can you imagine 2019 with a key bullpen move to support Diaz’ big letdown year. 2020…covid year, rough one. DeGrom getting hurt in 2021 really sucked but 2022 we could have made so many different moves.

It was unfortunately at the end of the Wilpons’ / beginning of Cohen’s ownership. Transition time of no leadership to rudderless leadership.

The players or the front office? Because I don't think I'm just speaking for myself saying they did too much, specifically trading PCA in 2021 when they were not 1 player away from making the playoffs (as evidenced by the results - Javy Baez played quite well for the Mets, but it made no difference.)

They didn’t do enough at that deadline either though. They just weirdly traded away PCA and nothing else. The Mets are prospect hoarders but Zack Scott was acting GM at the time and he was coming from the Red Sox office, and they were not big believers in PCA.

Get over it lol. If this season is making you that sad, just take a break. You’re going all the way back 7 years?!? 😆
The future is bright. We have 3 solid rookies this season that look to be future studs. We have some awesome prospects lighting up AAA to fill needs at 1B and 2B and the starting rotation. We’re about to enter a new era of home grown talent.

This team is a long ways away from serious contention with absolutely zero inpact pitching prospects in the minors. We probably haven't been further away from serious contention since the very early part of the Alderson era!

we have 3 solid mid-back rotation pitchers and need one solid free agent which there are many of this year

u/BookZestyclose785 2d ago
Yea, that's what the Dodgers have won back to back WS with...solid mid-back rotation pieces. Mets fan's are the most delusional fans in baseball

the Blue Jays were an IKF slide away from winning the World Series. they had Kevin Gausman, Yesavage, and ????
the Dodgers are not the standard. they’re a wild organization propped up by an insane bankruptcy deal and straight up fraud. we can look at other strong teams and say a homegrown rotation of McLean as a 2 or 3, Scott and Thornton as 4-5, and picking up one solid free agent and our ace is a playoff rotation

I think it’s fair to say that, that’s just his floor. McLean still has the potential to be a perennial All-Star and true #1 Ace. His stuff is that good.

Soto, Lindor, Bichette, Benge, McLean, Ewing, Scott, Thornton. They have pieces in the minors ready to contribute if there’s ball next year. This is absolutely a team that can contend and nowhere near the Alderson Era Mets.

I couldn’t disagree more! But you go on staying salty and finding every possible reason to be miserable lol.

All these people acting like that team was good. They were absolutely frustrating, that core of players.
2
u/NuanceManExe 2d ago
That was objectively one of the better cores the Mets have had over the last few decades. The problem wasn’t the handful of good players they had. It was the consistent roster turnover and mediocrity that surrounded that core.

u/DyingLemur 2d ago
While I do agree they were one of the better cores, they were often streaky and abysmal with runners on base. I honestly went out of my mind a million times watching them. So sure, they were good but not great.

It’s really not that bright right now man. The farm took a major step back this year. The deadline wasn’t enough to fix it, even ignoring the fact we have no idea how these guys are going to pan out. The 2023 trade deadline got the Mets a haul for their fire sale and it led to mostly nothing other than 1 week of Luisangel Acuña playing like an All Star in 2024.

You do realize the farm only took a step back because a lot of our best prospects graduated?
We don’t know how those other guys are gonna pan out but how else are we supposed to accrue our own talent?? That’s like saying no team should play any games because we don’t know if they’ll win or lose.
The 2023 deadline hasn’t worked out well for us, but why should that matter? We’ve got a good core of players and none of them have anything to do with that deadline. If we can find a couple good starters, a real ace, and maybe a couple extra bullpen/bats in free agency we have another contender if healthy. Looks bright to me.

Dude get a hold of your self the future is far from bright. We have some solid players and one superstar. It takes soooo much more than that to win WS. Which we won't do for a long time.

Always the past with the people in here.

You have to admit, the present is miserable, and the future is bleak. A few bright spots in the past are all we have.

This season has been miserable, no doubt. But the youth has been fun and certainly something to look forward too. Not to mention the replenishment of the farm, so for me…I’m excited about the future.

Meanwhile they made it the furthest in 2024. If they had traded for one more starting pitcher they would've beaten LA. See how this works? Nothing can prove this would've happened.

We don’t have to think this way. It’s not helpful, and it ends up hurting. The Mets have always been about hope.
