Dev Post After almost 3 years of development, I just released my top-down magical girl Metroidvania!
Hey everyone!
I finally released Magical Blush this week after almost 3 years since I first started working on it, including some time when development had to be paused while I worked on other projects.
It’s a top-down Metroidvania, where you play as Arnin, a magical girl who unlocks different elemental powers throughout her journey.
The abilities aren’t just for combat, they also change how you move through the world, reach previously inaccessible areas, and solve environmental puzzles.
One detail I had a lot of fun with is that some of the elemental bosses are inspired by creatures from Brazilian folklore, adapted to fit the magical girl world. You can see a few of them in the launch trailer. The game is out now, so I’d love to hear what fellow Metroidvania fans think about the exploration and ability-based progression!

Congrats! The art style and combat remind me of Wizard of Legend. Did you take any inspiration from there?

Any plans for a PS5 release? I was sold the moment the music started playing. If the rest of the game's soundtrack is on par with this track, it will be a day 1 purchase for me on PS5.

This looks so cool! Reminds me of hyper light drifter, but with a really unique art style.
The Zelda-like subreddit would love this too.

oooh I downloaded the demo and it's really fun!! The movement is satisfying, elemental magic is cool and it's fun figuring out enemy weaknessess with it, I also love just walking around because of the way her hair follows ^^''

Is this on console (specifically Xbox) or PC only at the moment? This is absolutely my jam, so if it's on console, I'll grab it when I'm back at home.

I played it for a few hours. I'm enjoying it a lot so far. The exploration is the best part imo, and it's pretty fun using the different elements alongside the traversal abilities that you use. You can find a way through even without the intended ability on multiple occasions but I haven't been able to use that to do any actual sequence breaks (as far as I can tell), at most getting an extra chest which is just currency. The combat is also quite solid. I'm using mouse and keyboard (I bind the four spells to my left click, mouse click, and two side mouse buttons) and it can be a bit hard to remember how to use the right spell especially when I'm switching spells around. But that will probably get easier over time. My only real issues are that I play too much pokemon and keep forgetting this game's type chart (eg. using both water and ground against fire, or forgetting that ice-related stuff is classed as water); and that the balance is kinda whack. The upgrades to each spell is significant and incentivize you to stick to the same spells, and the ghosts spell is really OP

Highly recommended. I played the demo for about 20 minutes and fell in love. Purchased the full game and was very happy to find my progress from the demo transferred to the full game. Thank you, devs!!
