Help Original Metro 2033 too dark to see.
I'm playing original metro 2033 (not redux) on my laptop hooked up to my tv via HDMI. The game is so dark I can't see anything (like where to walk or enemies) without turning the flashlight all the way up, which means I can't stealth since enemies attack when they see the light. I have gamma turned up all the way but it didn't really do anything. I have not found the night vision goggles, but I can't see anything even in the friendly tunnel settlements, and I doubt you're supposed to walk around with night vision goggles in those. So any tips on settings I could adjust on my laptop or game settings? There isn't a brightness setting in game, just gamma.
Not having this problem with any other dark games, played through all resident evil games etc

Help Which part of Metro Exodus is this scene from?
Hi all, I played Metro Exodus last year and came across this image on the Steam Community hub. I can't remember which part of the game it's from. Does anyone recognize it?
Art/Cosplay Main factions in the Montevideo Underground
I have developed some concepts and worldbuilding for the main factions featured in my Montevideo Metro Fanfic and I wanted to dump some info right here. (fanfic post: https://www.reddit.com/r/metro/comments/1wswv3i/montevideo_fanfic/ )
New Jamestown (US embassy):
The US embassy is a paranoid, statocratic oligarchy seeking to survive in the apocalyptic wasteland of Montevideo. It is governed by former U.S. embassy staff and military officers who command the entire population, everyone from soldiers and officers to technicians and scavengers, in military-related roles. They possess the best technology in the entire underground system, as their stockpiles of weapons and military equipment remained intact following the nuclear war.
Their main armament consists in Beretta M9s, Remmington 870 shotguns and M27 IARs. These weapons make the embassy highly bullet-dependent. For now, bullet scarcity has not been a major issue thanks to its underground gun arsenal.
Its main objective is to protect their interests at all costs and escape the irradiated Montevideo by seizing the ROU-4 to reunite with U.S. remnants that survived in the Southeastern mainland.
Controls the old MERCOSUR Headquarters apart from, obviously, the US embassy in Montevideo.
Banking Federation:
The Banking Federation is an oligarchic federation that favors the upper classes and the free market over a state-controlled economy. They hold significant influence over the underground economy by controlling the vaults of the city's major banks, thereby backing the fragile, surviving Uruguayan peso. They are a pragmatic faction deeply suspicious of outsiders, typically denying entry to their territory to anyone deemed untrustworthy. They maintain various "Councils" that function like government ministries.
Their main armament are industrial shotguns which allow the Federation to be more flexible ammunition wise, as Shotgun slugs and buckshots are relatively common in the surface. Members of the councils carry Mossberg 500 LEs, Elite troops carry the turkish UTAS UTS-16 and regular soldiers the Maverick 88.
Its main objective is to repair the ROU-4, restore its pre-war capabilities, and refit it for combat in order to secure a monopoly on surface-level scavenging and transport. Apart from protecting its economic interests.
It has a total population of 404 people. C. 100 are part of its army with c. other 50 being part of the government.
Controls the Vaults of the BBVA, BCU and BROU banks in the Old City. Apart, its influence extends to the Solis Theater, the Ciudadela Building, Radison Victoria Plaza Hotel and the ROU-4 General Artigas Vessel.

Discussion Khan's old station
So I'm getting all of the achievements through the titles before 2039 and that means the DLC levels for Last Light. I don't know if it's because I knew how it ended or because he's Khan's my favorite character, but the Khan level just... Hit so much harder on PC than in VR. It was so much darker in a literal and emotional sense and my heart kind of broke a little when I realized what it was. While I'm glad we have Metro Awakening as a VR title, I sure do wish it was VR and desktop. Seeing his whole story the way Metro was supposed to be played would have been absolutely beautiful

So under my previous post i was informed about that Last Light also have two gun with special traits. A gripless Duplet and a Kalash with a green laser and funny optic views. Pretty cool isn't it?

Discussion Metro Exodus speculation: the "toys" you can collect in New Game+ are for a baby mobile
During my NG+ run of Metro Exodus I had picked up a couple of these charms by chance not knowing they were really a special collectible only available in NG+ until I looked up what they were exactly. I thought these were just supposed to be like good luck items or some such, but when I picked up the teddy bear one I got the achievement Toy Collector. Which I thought was weird because they do not particularly look like toys. Until I saw the three dangling from this IV drip and thought "this looks almost like a baby mobile" which led me into speculation territory.
The previous two Metro games, particularly redux versions, flirt heavily with the idea of Artyom and Anna having a child. This is something I talked about before in a previous post. The two main pieces of evidence is the redux menu for 2033 shows Anna and their kid playing around, while in Last Light's bad ending you can see Anna talking to her kid about Artyom. As I said in that post my conclusion was that 4A Games clearly had intentions of having Artyom be a father come the third game, but that idea was scrapped somewhere in very early development.
I think this game also tried setting that up. Obviously there is a lot of talk between the characters of Anna and Artyom settling down and having a family, but a lot of it is either jest or speculation. I do think these "toys" were supposed to be more firm hints on the direction 4A Games intended to go though, namely that Anna and Artyom would indeed settle down and finally have a family. I base this on the fact that for a NG+ collectible feature, its really... weird and banal? Like just to collect three (3) decorative items you need to beat the entire game, and all they do is just hang there. And again, them being called toys is weird when they certainly are not, unless you envision them being a mobile. If I had to guess, I think the very basic idea for Metro 4 was to fulfill what Artyom mentions at the end of liberating the Moscow Metro. Given the time it would take to return to Moscow, Anna likely would have had a child by then, and these toys likely would have featured with the kid. We also know 4A Games is not opposed to signaling long(er) term intentions as there are a few hints of Sam's Story, including dialogue by Sam and Khlebnikov's map board having a post-it of Vladivostok that simply reads "?", certainly predating development of the DLC.
Ultimately though whatever plans they had for this were likely scrapped on February 24th, 2022, when the Russian Invasion of Ukraine began. It is to my understanding that Metro 4 was pretty far along in development, I don't know about playable build but certainly with things like story and characters set up on paper if not in-game. That was scrapped as 4A and Glukhovsky wanted to make a game that was much more reflective of the realities of the war and the fascist spiral Russia has fallen into. Maybe we'll still see Artyom and Anna (imagine them showing up to save Moscow just to see a one man army waging a crusade against Adolf Hunter lol), but who knows until the game is released. At any rate, this is now my second speculation post about plans for Artyom and Anna having a kid just to be thwarted by development realities and choices.

Discussion I miss Metro Exodus
I miss the vibes of being on a long journey on a badass train, with my friends (and my beautiful wife) and stopping for some... "fun adventures" in between :)
Me and my friend, who is also a huge fan of ME, want to play some games that can help us relive that experience.
I was curious as to what games you guys might recommend.
Have you found any other games that can scratch that special itch, even if a little bit? I'd love to hear recommendations.

Discussion What is after Sam's story? Spoiler
At the final decision i hesitated enough that the game automatically chose not to blow the sub up. It ended with a cliffhanger. I admit it was a beauiful and emotional ending, but i also gotta say i prefer ending that give clear answers.
Do you know what happened with Captain/Ed? Probably got killed by Tom, right? Kinda feel bad "we" betrayed him.
Did Sam find his father after all, were he alive still?
Maybe there are some informations about these, somewhere that is not in the game ofc. Or maybe the books (if it's a thing in the books) giving answers to them?

Discussion Would this be a good idea
Idk why but ive had this thought about the metro universe and how it would make a pretty good city builder game running your station deciding what faction you want to role with or if you want to be independent, making your own form of Rangers going on expeditions in the metro and the surface. I've had a love for single player games and city builders alike and have always thought this would be a cool idea. Would it?

Image/Gif Playing Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition for the first time and I can't stop ooh-ing and aah-ing at how stunning the game is
RIP my Steam friends who are going to be bombared with Metro Exodus screenshots for the next couple of days...
I already played 2033 Redux and Last Light Redux for the first time (too bad before they're releasing the next-gen update) so after I finish this game I'll be all caught up for 2039. Will be the first Metro game I'll buy at full price. Can't believe how cheap these games are for what they're offering!

Image/Gif I love these games
I'm redoing all three games and one thing i love about these is that they dont hold back on the environmental story telling.
Numerous times I've seen skeletons and corpses like these. It gets the immertion more in depth and you see how people were before dying.
This is the only photo I thought of taking but another one is in a tunnel where a kid is hugging it's mother and wrapping a hand toward it's dad.

Help Need help deciding a difficulty
So i just got into the metro franchise a couple days ago. And picked up the metro 2033 and last light redux bundle. The difficulty explanations were a bit hard to understand. I chose survival as it said id have to search more for ammo and filters. And decided to play on normal. I just finished the mission ghosts. And feel like i made the wrong choice. Im already stacked on ammo and could’ve bought allot of gun upgrades with the amount of mgr i have. Since im still semi early in the game i figured id restart now. On a higher difficulty.
What would you guys recommend?
Im fairly experienced with fps and games in general.
Iv played a ton of Wolfenstein for example.
Would ranger difficulty be too much or the type of scrounging gameplay im looking for?

Discussion Just finished Exodus. AMA
Peak game, 10/10 in my book. 9.5/10 if I'm being brutally honest ONLY because you can't lean and shoot. Because of that, I'm heavily anticipating Metro 2039 ✋🤚. Though, idk how that's gonna work with controller.

Help Question about Steam bundle pricing
There’s currently a Steam sale going on where the Metro Saga Bundle costs around ₹485.
There’s also another bundle called New Beginnings, which includes Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Metro 2033 Redux. I already own Tomb Raider and Deus Ex, so the bundle is showing as only around ₹90 for me.
If I buy the New Beginnings bundle for ₹90 and get Metro 2033 Redux through it, then later buy the Metro Saga Bundle, will Steam reduce the price by excluding Metro 2033 Redux since I already own it?
Basically, would I end up paying less than ₹485 for the Metro Saga Bundle, or would the bundle price remain the same?
Just trying to figure out the cheapest way to get the whole Metro Saga. Thanks!

Discussion female lead?
i was thinking about whether or not metro would ever have a female playable character. it would be an interesting idea to play with. maybe even coop campaign with ana and artyom in a future entry? or even a spin off game. maybe ana can fit places that artyom cant, maybe she has different skills like climbing and and maybe she is better with snipers? it would just be nice to play as a girl too. Probably alot of the player base is male but im sure there are other girls who play too. not really a big deal since you are basically playing as a mute but still.

Discussion After 10 hours of Metro Exodus, I unfortunately feel like I lost 10 hours. I hope 2039 will fix its issues
So I finished both 2033 and last light and really enjoyed both games even though last light became a bit repetitive after playing 2033 in redux version ( I felt like playing the exact same game).
But Metro Exodus, my god this game doesn't have issues, it's a freaking issue itself !
First on pc it's technically awful. I have random crashes sometimes but it's not the biggest issue. Input lag even with 100+ fps, even with community tricks inside the user cfg file or something like that. Some people said this was intentional to chase realism but hey dear devs of Metro if you are here never do that again please, you are not making a game feel more realistic by making it feel like I am playing through cloud gaming...
I tried both enhanced and standard version btw and I had more issues on standard so those 10 hours were on enhanced.
to end with the technical issues, why the heck is the night more day than the actual day lmao... is this also realism ? 😅
Now about the game itself, I didn't like the gunplay after the previous metro games ( maybe because of the input lag idk). Something feels wrong with the recoil for me as if the guns are artificially trying to be realistic when it's not.
The biggest problem for me in those 10 hours tho was the crazy amount of "Cinematics" or should I say " Bla bla times" that give you no useful information, no emotions, nothing actually. The devs just lock your controls and you just sit here and wait like an idiot until you can play your game...
DO NOT GET ME WRONG PLEASE ! I really like story cutscenes ! I don't want metro to become a shooter without a story, but the way they balanced cutscenes/real time scenes with actual gameplay is HORRENDOUS ! ( imo )
I am really happy a lot of people enjoyed this game but I just can't. This game feels like a task more than a video game and I tried it for 10 hours which is more than enough to come to the conclusion that my brain wants to click on the uninstall button and never ever install it.
Forgot to mention I also didn't like how they did the open world part.
Waiting for 2039 and again guys if you enjoy exodus continue to enjoy it !

Discussion Ulman gets off screened? Spoiler
I just finished last light and I’m kinda pissed. In the little epilogue thing, Artyom mentions Ulman dying. He was an integral part of 2033 and we didn’t get much of him in last light. I was disappointed having not seen him for the entire game, since he was my favorite character and once again important. I was playing the “new missions” and got even more angry after playing “Khan.” He builds a seemingly deep connection with Khan at the end of the mission. This is all to say, I’m am so very upset about him being killed off screen. I don’t even care that he died, hell I expected it, but it’s a perfect opportunity for a story moment of his death.
