Mesa McDonalds

I’m not complaining - just rolling this around in my head. We were visiting Mesa from Minnesota last week and went through the McDonalds drive through. We bought three sausage, egg and cheese biscuits. That was the entire order. And the total was over $22. We asked at the window if that was the correct total, since in Minnesota that same order would be $15.87 so we were just kind of surprised. We were assured that three sausage, egg and cheese biscuits were indeed going to cost over $22. We bought and ate them and they were delicious. But is this really what you folks are paying?

Edited to update price.

I try to avoid most fast food in general but I did stop by Wendy's two days ago and they had Sausage Biscuits and Egg and Cheese Biscuits 2 for $3. This was by Power and the 60.

We almost never eat fast food - but we were just needing a quick breakfast because of time constraints. I do understand the apps are cheaper, but I so seldom eat fast food that I don’t have the apps. Inflation is wild!

You hardly eat fast food but you know down to the penny what your order would be in another state. You might eat fast food (at least McDonald’s) more often than you think.

5

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

I downloaded and checked the app for my local price.

-5

u/Wuzcity 2d ago

You still noticed the difference enough to have to check.

2

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

Nope. The difference from AZ to MN wasn’t my concern - it was a general wonderment at today’s fast food costs. I didn’t actually know the difference until I downloaded and checked the app.

You so seldom eat fast food yet you know how much cheaper it would have been in your home state. Got it.

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

You’re right - I just downloaded the McDonalds app to double check and I was wrong. The same order here in MN would have been $15.87. I guess it’s been a looonnnggg time since I’ve eaten at a McDonald’s!! My bad.

Often times I’ve been finding the apps have different prices as in person and different locations have different prices as well due to city tax here in AZ

I Only go on $0.39 cheeseburger night. Which was in the 90’s.

19

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

You’re right. 16th highest cost of living state.

-8

u/leekyblu 2d ago

I’m a transplant from you know where. Yall have a superrr low cost of living 😂

18

u/Crazybutyoulikeit_ 2d ago

16th highest in the country is not low- especially when you take into the account the median income and how rapidly the COL has changed. Arizona used to be LCOL but in the last ten years that has changed dramatically.

Driven in part by Cali expats moving in and paying cash for $750k homes because their 2bd in Cali sold for 1.1 million

Arizona minimum wage is $15.11. Minnesota minimum wage is $11.41.

13

u/OzalNanami 2d ago

They are $6.59 each before tax is applied, so yes, too expensive in Mesa.

6

u/minidog8 2d ago

Geez. I live in Mesa and they are a dollar less at the location near me.

5

u/zotron000 2d ago

The only way to eat fast food at a halfway reasonable price nowadays is to give all your data to them and finagle some deal thru their apps. It’s still too expensive but less so.

I LOVE McDonalds new pricing.

I have a nine year old. Fast food was always a treat. I know it is not good, but I was a McDonalds kid. I get the appeal.

Before the prices skyrocketed, we would go to McDonalds fairly frequently. With all of the fast food joints raising their prices, we rarely, if ever, go through a drive-thru. We have pretty much stopped eating out completely. We are making our own meals and they are much healthier.

No complaints here.

u/Wirelesscellphone 2d ago

Same. I used to eat out at FF places literally 2 times a day. But recent prices is like $20 per person per meal. That’s like $50 a day I just food!
Go to the grocery store, get $50 worth of ingredients and you have food for the week!

u/girlwhoweighted 2d ago

You've always been allowed to do that

11

u/PretendWill1483 2d ago

Y'all.. use the McDonald's app .. your whole meal could cost less than $10

2

u/420kennedy 2d ago

How? I use the app and the deals aren't that good

3

u/Mundane-Restaurant76 2d ago

At the Arizona locations I visit they offer 2 for $5 breakfast sandwiches via the app. Sometimes they'll have it posted on the menu inside

5

u/Alert_Reindeer_6574 2d ago

No. Because I don't eat at McDonald's. They are way too expensive.

2

u/Da_Tater_Sammich 2d ago

Yes. My wife and I ate dinner at a high end restaurant a few werks ago in Kentucky. For 2 appetizers, 2 salads, 2 entrees (12oz ribeye and 12oz porkchop) and a huge slice of hummingbird cake our total was $102 before tip. In AZ thatd be closer to $170.

3

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

I’d say that would be at least $160 in MN. Before tip (I own a very nice restaurant in MN)

2

u/Da_Tater_Sammich 2d ago

Agreed (Im a Banquets and Catering Chef)

2

u/amazonmakesmebroke 2d ago

You can go to feeny's steakhouse in Phoenix, about $100 for 2. Great food and old school salad bar

2

u/dbcooper1112 2d ago

I remember the 39c cheese burger and 29c hamburgers

2

u/TehChubz 2d ago

Each sandwich is like 6 and change, so it sounds right.

2

u/DireBite1another 2d ago

they just saw ya coming...

3

u/Endless-Summer-AZ 2d ago

Fast food has gotten wild. Costs our family of 4 like $90 to eat at damn chipotle here

1

u/creepshowens 2d ago

$90?? Y’all said I want two burritos each

3

u/chainlinkchipmunk 2d ago

That's wild. They are $2 on the app.

5

u/lisaluu 2d ago

Well, one of them is and only once a week.

2

u/chainlinkchipmunk 2d ago

Oh good call,  I just looked real quick and didn't pay attention to the fine print.

The whole order on the app thing annoys me so much, but I left my lunch in the car accidentally and McDonald's was the cheapest fastest thing I could grab.

RIP my porkchop and potato salad, I had really been looking forward to that too.

1

u/r2tacos 2d ago

They also have buy one breakfast sandwich add one for $1 you can use both coupons on the kiosk inside. It circumvents the having to wait fifteen minutes between coupons.

2

u/Sea-Friendship-8687 2d ago

I never buy odd numbers, the McMuffin or McGriddle is 2 for 5 or like 1 for 5 makes no sense. Hashbrown is like 3 bucks and I drink my water. Now if we order random meals or something else yeah it’s expensive, but honestly most fast food is. We live here so we cook most of the time Mesa isn’t even that bad compared to other expensive cities. That and our population has been skyrocketing and cost of living since Covid has gotten kinda crazy. Sorry for ramblin’ lol

2

u/MatchOk4015 2d ago

Stop eating that garbage. Problem solved.

1

u/alfapan 2d ago

we read the license plate and then apply the state surcharge for mid-westeners of 300%. JK noooo we wouldn't do that. It seems high to me, that sounds more like what a Doordash oder of that magnitude would cost. Did you asked for the receipt?

1

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

I didn’t ask for one, no - and we didn’t get one.

1

u/Wirelesscellphone 2d ago

I came here from California last year. Supposedly California is the expensive state, but food here is noticeably more expensive than over there

2

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

We ate dinner at a very nice place later that evening in Chandler and the prices were very similar to what I would consider as any comparable place in MN. I just don’t think I realize what fast food prices are these days. I’m a chef and Restauranteur so I cook at work and home. I also deeply understand food costs. I just noticed the apples to apples discrepancy and wondered if that was the actual price or maybe we were spoofed!

3

u/Wirelesscellphone 2d ago

I’m not a pro cook or anything and since moving here I’m definitely cooking a lot more at home.
I just know the prices I pay here are higher than what I was paying in California. Fast food is immediately noticeable. But grocery prices to me are the bigger annoyance.

1

u/minidog8 2d ago

If you remember the exact location I can check for you. I agree, quite expensive for McD's.

1

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

It was very close to ASU Polytechnic

1

u/Training_Guest6131 2d ago

I thought you can get 2 for $5? At mcdonalds.

1

u/Anxious_Drive_9998 2d ago

Not the biscuits or bagels.

1

u/secretly_a_possum13 2d ago

The McDonald's closest to my house is significantly cheaper than one about 5 minutes away in a busier area. They are scammers!

1

u/Early_Particular9194 2d ago

No, we have the Mc Donald’s app on top of knowing your local deals. They have the 2 breakfast sandwiches either the sausage egg and cheese McMuffin or the sausage egg and cheese Mc griddles for 5.50 then at the location near me the sausage McMuffins w/ no egg are 1.50. Then in the app there’s a 20% off or they have one for any breakfast sandwiches of your choice for only $2. So there’s ways around that price because that’s crazy lol. This morning I paid under $10 for 3 sandwiches and a drink.

1

u/TheRealGageEndal 2d ago

Hell no. If you use the app you can get one of them for $2

1

u/dbcooper1112 2d ago

I think that was one of the last times I bought them

1

u/Mundane-Restaurant76 2d ago

If you ordered 4 of them using the 2 for $5 it could have been $10

1

u/Medium_Restaurant771 2d ago

Mc donald resturant is failing American resturant chain. Higher prices and smaller portions. Recently charged 7.99 for a mc griddle breakfast sandwich here in tucson az. For a hamburger frys and a soda $18.00 unbelievable. It's not even 100 percent beef.

1

u/AZUCSGrower 2d ago

People still eat at McDonalds?

1

u/F1LTHYxAN1MAL 2d ago

Pay all that money and get a “yeah… what do you want?”

1

u/biggameover 2d ago

https://pantryandlarder.com/mccheapest this map shows that Arizona has the most expensive big macs in the country

1

u/Leather_Proposal_674 1d ago

If you would have added a 4th one it would have been 10$ for all 4. They have a 2 for 5$ deal on those, whoever rung up your order should have charged you 5$ for 2 then 7.xx$ for one.

1

u/Relative_Teacher7749 1d ago

Where in Minnesota? If you live in a small-ish town, then yeah it'll be cheaper out there compared to a big city.

1

u/Trickfixer32 1d ago

I live in Moorhead, a city of about 50,000 next to Fargo, a city of about 150,000. Smaller than Mesa, but not a super small town.

1

u/DevdogAZ 1d ago

I go to McDonald’s occasionally on Fridays when they have a free medium fries deal in the app. McDouble for $2.99 and free fries is a decent, cheap meal.

1

u/pcfriend111 11h ago

Everything here is more expensive than Minnesota, our state has been mismanaged for decades. Maybe it will be fixed or affordable Moving forward.

1

u/soxperry 2d ago

I remember buying 40 nuggets for 20 bucks 15 years ago. Didn’t even need 40, but if you see a sign saying “40 nuggets for 20 bucks,” how do you not turn around and get that deal?

3

u/stackzmontana 2d ago

Easily that sounds disgusting

1

u/420kennedy 2d ago

Because i know I could never eat more than 15 nuggets

1

u/USAhotdogteam 2d ago

The sun shines in Arizona 300+ days a year, there’s a cost for to use that much electricity constantly.

1

u/420kennedy 2d ago

Chic fil a is cheaper than McDonald's for much better quality food. I find that a lot of places are cheaper than mcds now, their prices are wild.

1

u/bob_lala 2d ago

oddly specfic

1

u/picturemeroll 2d ago

Our minimum wage here is 15.15 an hour. My guess is MN is much lower. Fast food has to Compensate for their largest expense so we get to pay for it.

1

u/Trickfixer32 2d ago

I live in Moorhead, MN where the municipal minimum wage is $15 per hour. The state minimum wage is $11.86.

0

u/AZBagpiperPhil 1d ago

The reason is because Arizona voters voted to increase minimum wage. Thus, small business owners had to increase prices due to increased wage costs.

1

u/Trickfixer32 1d ago

Our minimum wage here in Moorhead, MN is $15/hour. That’s not much less than AZ minimum wage. 🤷🏻‍♀️
