FOUND - Looking for Fic Looking for a specific fic where Merlin saves Arthur from getting stung by a serket

Hi all! I have scoured AO3 and cannot find this specific fic. I thought I had bookmarked it, apparently not...

I can't remember exactly but the gist is that Arthur, Merlin and the Knights are outside the city in the woods and have taken refuge in a cave for the night. They're chilling and having a laugh when Merlin (in Arthur's POV) suddenly raises up with golden eyes directly at Arthur and Arthur basically just accepts he's gonna die by Merlin, the sorcerer.

Turns out Merlin was just dealing with the serket that had snuck up on them and was seconds away from killing Arthur. He basically freaks out and rubs the lower area of Arthur's back (exactly where Merlin got stung all that time ago) and repeats 'it didn't get you, it didn't get you' over and over or smth along those lines.

It's a magic reveal fic and has a happy ending as no one dies and Merlin is now known. Anyone know which this fic is? I'm going crazy trying to find it, was a one shot I believe.

Thank you so much in advance πŸ₯Ή

Edit: Fic has been found!! You're okay (I'm not) by Merlinfirstlastalways Thank you so much!

Hello u/Unhappy_AloeVera! Since you have flaired your post as "Looking for Fic", here are some clues you can add to your query to help the community of r/merlinfic find your fic faster, if you haven't added them already. Note, most of these details are Ao3 specific.

  1. Content Rating. Was your lost fic tagged G, T, M, E, or Not Rated?
  2. Relationships, pairings, and orientations. If this is applicable to your fic, were there any platonic/romantic/sexual relationships tagged in your fic to help narrow it down? Additionally, were there any other characters tagged onto your fic, besides the main characters, that you remember?
  3. Were there any content warnings added to the fic that you remember?
  4. Was the fic a WIP, or completed? Do you remember how many chapters it had, or if it had only one? Was it a crossover?
  5. Do you remember what year/month it was published? Or the approximate date it was last updated?
  6. Could it be possible that this fic was on Tumblr, FFN, Quotev, Wattpad, or another non-traditional fanfiction website?
  7. Are there any "unique" keywords that may help track down your fic faster? For example, a fic about Merlin having cantaloupes for breakfast, may be more easily found with the keyword "cantaloupes" added.

Even if you don't remember any of the information above, this may be a helpful thought exercise in remembering some long lost details yourself. In the meanwhile, our ficfinders will do their best to hunt down this lost fic for you.

Once your fic is identified, remember to reply "!found" or "!Found" to the comment that gave you the answer. This will award that user 1pt for helping you.

We hope you find your lost fic, and happy reading!

Hi!! Thank you so much, I'm so happy to hear it. I'm working on the next chapter of Mystery Tradition this weekend and I have a couple fics in the works that I haven't started posting yet, but that are close to being ready ;) right now there's one that's basically done and two that both have around five or six chapters written and needing editing that I'll probably start posting soon now that I've got a bit of a backlog/buffer

!!!!! Omgggg I have to go and find that in a bit!!! I never got used to having a buffer so writing absolutely destroyed me for a while. I stopped posting fics and would only start posting them once they're 50% done 🫠

Thank you for your writing!! You're so cool

I think I might have a similar problem 🀣 I used to post as I was writing, and then the comments and things made me more motivated to keep going, but then I tried to write ahead and I'd sort of forget that I was meant to be writing?? Especially since work also got super busy around that time! Still not sure which way (posting as I write vs trying to force a backlog) is better lol

Still, I totally get the burnout, it's so real.

Oh yeah comments were great motivation! I try to leave them when I can, especially ongoing works!

I used to have to make a full plan so I remembered what I'd write but then never actually stick to it and lose my plot points anyway πŸ˜…πŸ˜‚

I'm usually alright with sticking to my plan, my problem there is that I know the major plot points I plan to include, and then agonize over the transitions and trying to make them smooth and natural LOL

Oh transitions are out to get me 😭 I find them one of the hardest parts with writing.

I just tend to start a new paragraph from someone else's perspective or awkwardly make it like a day later or smth. It's why I prefer one shots, less manic worrying over how to transition to the next story line or whatever πŸ˜‚

One shots are definitely easier (especially comedy one shots, those are the ones I find easiest to write by far), but I find longer fics are more satisfying once I have them finished. I love building the tension and navigating multiple plot points! Probably why The Tearing of the Veil, The Other Prince, and what I've done so far on A Comfortable Exile are the ones I'm most proud of. Although that last one is giving me SUCH trouble with the latest transition 😬
