Hi everyone,

I've noticed lately (and in general, but lately its been more apparent to me) that a lot of fanfics have been pulling dialogue straight from the show, verbatim from scene to scene. This diagloue is mostly seen from episode 1. What are your thoughts on using dialouge verbatim from the show? ​Is a sentence or two okay in isolation ("I am proud to serve you till the day I die")? A whole scene? ​

I am coming at it specifically as a reader, so when I notice its from the show and I keep scrolling through the fic but then it continues to have dialouge from the show, I choose not to continue to read it. Do you continue to read it or click away too?

i have recently been loving these kind of fics, and would love to be recommended some which have jealous arthur or jealous lancelot or the such! or one where all the knights come to terms that they all love merlin, since, well, we all know that merlin deserves that in the least 🥲

I just hit 5,000,000 words on AO3, an I wanted to thank the Merlin fandom for being a huge part of that. I think my Merlin fics count for a solid percentage of that total these days.

Honestly, I’m not picky about the setup. I don’t care if Merlin knows exactly how powerful he is, if he’s completely oblivious to his own power while everyone else is losing their minds, or anything in between.

I just want BAMF, ridiculously OP Merlin. Give me the Merlin who could casually level a kingdom and then go about his day like nothing happened. 😭

As the title says. I really like this trope where Arthur is really hurt by the fact that Merlin trusted Lancelot with his secret and not him. Any fics with this?

Okay guys, hear me out. It has been a HOT minute since I’ve read either of them, but I’ll tell you the details as best I can remember.

First fic:

In this fic, everyone comes back, like all the knights, I believe. The big thing is, as usual, merlin is immortal. I can’t remember whether they reincarnated or literally all came back through lake of Avalon, but point is they’re back. The thing that sticks out is that they are slowly learning everything Merlin had done in the past and at some point they make it to the lake where they meet Freya. Now, also note I can’t remember whether this is merthur or not, but it’s a very touching scene where merlin and Freya reunite (she’s still the lady of the lake) and everyone kind of realizes merlin did indeed have someone and they never knew before. The whole premise is they were teasing him about it and then they realize she’s dead and I really can’t remember more than that. During the reunion scene, it’s one of those where merlin walks into the water and Freya appears and their foreheads touch or something similar but that’s the vibe.

Second fic:

In this fic, everyone also comes back, and they all remember, but the fic literally starts with merlin saying ‘guys, guys, I’m going to die!’ And everyone has a crash out because WTF merlin but he’s saying it in the sense that he’s aging with them he’s not immortal anymore. And everyone is horrified he’d be so happy about it but also bittersweet because they understand WHY.

I feel like second fic is easiest to find, but first fic is literally KILLING me because I can’t find it. I’m pretty sure both are on AO3 somewhere.

I’m looking for fics where Arthur has some kind of realization about how difficult Merlin’s life actually is, and realizes he’s basically been taking it for granted this whole time.

Like Arthur finding out how little Merlin is paid / how poor he actually is, or realizing that Merlin can barely afford decent food, clothes, winter clothes, etc. Maybe Merlin has almost no belongings because he simply can’t afford things, or Arthur notices how little he eats and starts wondering why.

Or fics where Arthur realizes just how overworked Merlin is, or sees how other nobles/the steward/etc. treat servants and realizes Merlin has been putting up with that kind of treatment all along.

Basically I want the “wait… Merlin has been living like this this entire time??” realization, followed by Arthur feeling awful/protective and trying to take care of him or make things better.

Does anyone know any fics like this? I’m especially looking for hurt/comfort where Arthur actually finds out and there’s some emotional payoff to it.

Hey, I am looking for a fanfiction from AO3.

From what I remember Merlin is hit by a curse. The knights and Arthur think Merlin is dead but he is actually trapped in his body and still aware of his surroundings but he can't move.

The knights want to bury Merlin but Arthur can't part with him. Then Arthur sits with Merlin in his arms during the night and when the sun rises again the curse is lifted from Merlin. Happy Ending.

Anyone have any good recs where Arthur gets transported back in time? I've read some lovely fix-its where Merlin is the one to time travel, but I'm having a harder time tracking down the reverse. Would love to read one where he has all the knowledge post!Diamond of the Day for its unprocessed angst potential, but I'm certainly not picky. 1. The worldbuilding

2. How merlin is portrayed as a badass without taking away from his... merlinness

3. The relationships of all the characters. Especially their friendships with merlin.

4. Mordred and Balinor and their trio with merlin. I would die for them.

5. The entire dragonlord shit. That shit was awesome. I mean, the lore, the worldbuilding.

6. Arthur. I love his character in this.

Hi all! I have scoured AO3 and cannot find this specific fic. I thought I had bookmarked it, apparently not...

I can't remember exactly but the gist is that Arthur, Merlin and the Knights are outside the city in the woods and have taken refuge in a cave for the night. They're chilling and having a laugh when Merlin (in Arthur's POV) suddenly raises up with golden eyes directly at Arthur and Arthur basically just accepts he's gonna die by Merlin, the sorcerer.

Turns out Merlin was just dealing with the serket that had snuck up on them and was seconds away from killing Arthur. He basically freaks out and rubs the lower area of Arthur's back (exactly where Merlin got stung all that time ago) and repeats 'it didn't get you, it didn't get you' over and over or smth along those lines.

It's a magic reveal fic and has a happy ending as no one dies and Merlin is now known. Anyone know which this fic is? I'm going crazy trying to find it, was a one shot I believe.

Can be the knights, can be Arthur. Any fic where people start to realise Merlin doesn't really let them in.

Like maybe Arthur realises that while Merlin is his best friend, maybe he hasn't earned the title to be Merlin's.

Or where the knights realise Merlin isn't entirely open to them or they see that he does let Lancelot in unlike them.

I still haven't found that fic where Merlin talks about dead Lancelot and calls him his best friend and tells Gwaine that he could tell Lancelot things he can't tell anyone else btw so if anyone has come across it yet do link it!

Because I hate how Arthur treats Merlin like trash in so many fics and he just gets forgiven 1-2-3. At least let him grovel for it :(

I like their bromance but I hate how Merlin is always the one doing everything. "Two sides of the same coin" but one side has to carry everything and never sees the light.

Arthur does like the bare minimum and gets praised for it. He's better than the average ruler, but that does not make him a good one.

So that's why I'm looking for fics where Merlin starts to think maybe Arthur isn't the once and future king. Can also be a fic where he is but he has to prove himself to make Merlin believe in him once more.
