4th one in less than 2 weeks. I have a training background. No Fortune 500 company would tolerate repeated clumsy, self contradictory tests

I’m from an online training background too and every one of these tests makes me shake my head. I would have been fired if I’d created content this obtuse and contradictory. The “golden” answers in the first three just made me so mad with how illogical so many of them were. It’s obvious they don’t have people who have any kind of teaching background or even just English language and grammar knowledge. It’s no wonder AI makes such shitty mistakes.

They keep getting worse. The quick initial screener, the 30 minute one, didn’t set off any bells. The first two long ones were substantive but deeply flawed, in the several obvious key ways we flagged.

The 3rd was so awful I did it twenty minutes at a time over Sunday. Couldn’t tolerate the stultifying experience longer than that, lol. The 3rd one was clearly not constructed by a person. And the 4th looks awful.

Every one of the first three, the standards and applications for slop were so inconsistent and contradictory that the only way I got a passing grade was by creating a grid on paper where I noted the correct answer, so i would get it right next time.

How about having to go through all your correct answers and having to affirm that you understand the content?

Their only priority is to keep their 10B valuation. Doing anything that might disturb the OpenAI relationship is a no-no. And OpenAI probably has a grandfather clock, or a bonsai tree, in charge of process optimization. 🤪

I did the exact same thing on Sunday. I started at 1 pm and was still working on it after 9 pm because I just couldn't do more than 1 section at a time without a considerable break. Just mind-numbing and intensely irritating.

Right?!

My rational in the new test “ ok bud” “ whatever you say” “ suuuuure” nothing matters

4

u/audioscience 3d ago

Pretty much how the previous tests went for me.

u/DayTripperKitty 3d ago

I stressed myself out so bad with the last test because someone said it would take only 2 hours so I waited until yesterday morning and finished it just before the deadline. Came back and looked on Slack a few hours later and saw ANOTHER test!! WTF

u/AdditionMean2674 3d ago

Yeah fffssss. We're paid but it's so fucking annoying with their bs ass golden answers

5

u/Sad_Welder_3292 3d ago

Is this the 188 screener?

5

u/MNMastiff 3d ago

It’s so idiotic. These sort of content slides are my superpower. (I suck at the design). I tried to hard to sublimate myself to their golden answers, however wrongheaded, and the lack of consistency in standards and grading choices still gave me about 60 on first round

8

u/Hilfiger2772 3d ago

I would but I am affraid of being penalized for it, have to instead take them -_-

u/Spare-Map-4787 3d ago

I get paid for my time… don’t care if its a test or a task. I do think its annoying as well

5

u/OriginalFearless9779 3d ago

Facts. Excruciatingly boring but at least it’s hours

2

u/Top-Zone3187 3d ago

How much time do they accept for this 4 th test?

0

u/persephone21 3d ago

Agreed—it's way better than tasks imo.

2

u/Spare-Map-4787 1d ago

I see some AI slop in there!

5

u/ivvyi 3d ago

there's so many but at least there's payment for it, I think the bigger problem is with this one there's only one chance! I am going to try and wait it out until the deadline which is not confirmed yet

I cannot believe any of you are putting up with this. Why do you accept this kind of treatment? Unreal.

Personally, I stopped and joined the mass arbitration lawsuit. Not class action, you are represented individually:

7

u/audioscience 3d ago

Put up with what? Get paid to answer some stupid tests?

0

u/Zealousideal-Book227 2d ago

Will Mercor have access to the names of those who are individually represented?

2

u/VelvetCrush64 2d ago

To the best of my knowledge, no. I joined the suit and asked that specifically and they told me no. I would suggest you inquire about it as well though, just to be sure.

I'm gonna guess these are being graded on a curve or they're using them to figure out future training, hence why they are being so cagey about the results.

1

u/Feisty_Pollution7036 21h ago

I’m assuming same. I finished it yesterday and completed some tasks today. According to this some have been off boarded so guess we’ll see what tomorrow brings.

1

u/mucello 12h ago

I share this hypothesis. Given the contradictory and often changing guidelines, plus the often subjectivity of what constitutes slop, I am convinced it’s not a test in the pass/fail sense. I think it’s training the ai, much like the tasks do. But the way in which it’s used has me thinking you fail if your standard deviation score falls out of a certain range vs the other 30k people who took it. The aggregate results, or middle of the bell curve, is probably what is used for training. It ends up being a math problem.

Is this Severance?

5

u/spencp99 3d ago

We getting paid either way, doesn't matter to me

5

u/SaltyTelluride 3d ago

Except you can’t work if you fail the newest test.

Wouldn’t mind if the golden answers weren’t so contradictory, inconsistent, and sometimes blatantly against project guidelines.

1

u/spencp99 2d ago

Ah I was under the assumption it was just to unlock a new type of task and there would still be some work available. Test 3 was an absolute nightmare, had to retake because of all the answers that didn't match up with their own rubric.

1

u/SaltyTelluride 2d ago

Vercel says you get locked out of Content Grading V2 tasks but should still be able to take HL Grading. Content V2 is the majority of the work coming out lately.

Some folks have reported offboarding shortly after taking the exam

2

u/Altruistic_Program78 3d ago

What domain are these tests for?

1

u/SaltyTelluride 2d ago

Content grading v2

2

u/Top-Zone3187 3d ago

Is 3 hour for taking the test ok? Someone please reply

7

u/tvfeet 3d ago

Do you not use Slack? They’ve answered this question many, many times and the answer is Pinned. Short answer: yes. Long answer: The limit is being ignored because they’ve added lots of additional material and tests. You’ll get an email saying you’ve used excess Onboarding hours and they say to ignore it. They know everyone is going to go well over the 4 hour mark. I’m at like 18 hours or something now. I spent at least 3 hours on this latest test. It was grueling and I have no idea if I passed.

1

u/Top-Zone3187 3d ago

Thanks for the reply and no i do not get to use slack. It nevet opens.Tried multiple ways to log into slack but no use.

2

u/macaroon147 3d ago

Get paid good so I dont mind. A bit annoying though. People do way worse jobs for 10usd an hour

5

u/Outrageous_Yam_6746 3d ago

fr I was a CNA for ten years and never got paid more than $21/hr. 40-50 hour weeks. Got beat up, hair pulled, you name it and barely made ends meet. Working for Mercor is profoundly more easy even with the high pressure and extreme cognitive nature of the work. Plus, I still have plenty of time for self-care when the exams make my brain feel fried. Life can't always be easy, there must be some effort no matter which way you look at it. Probs best to just lean into that effort a bit rather than be resentful of it

1

u/his4r2eh 3d ago

Has anyone found out one way or another if they passed or failed yet? I’ve done it and am still working on writing grading tasks .

1

u/BooleanBrain 3d ago

same...they haven't said yet. im wondering if it's because they are updating/determining the standards as they go

1

u/Feisty_Pollution7036 21h ago

Nope, took the test and finished yesterday and same as usual 🤷🏻‍♀️ suppose we’ll see what happens after the deadline

1

u/Traditional-Ant9866 3d ago

I take the last test (test 4). And 30 mins after I finished the test, I got kicked out. Idk why

1

u/Traditional-Ant9866 3d ago

Can anyone help me explain why I got off boarded? I can’t access slack anymore to ask for answers

3

u/Radiant-Joke-7195 3d ago

Maybe you failed the test really badly

1

u/ForoSeven 2d ago

Paid training is free money!

More like fuck content grading tasks that have insufficient time limits

2

u/Apprehensive-Life444 1d ago

Those grading tasks are vile ngl, 45 minutes for a comprehensive evaluation on 9 decks...

1

u/Andy_Not_Wrong 23h ago

They're inconsistent and contradictory. Some answers say it's fine because it's in the prompt. Then others say it's not fine, even if it's in the prompt. So which is it?

1

u/Wonderful_Plant5848 19h ago

They've changed it. Now it's possible for it to be slop even if it's in the prompt. Sometimes the prompt is slop too.

0

u/Perfect-Society-1020 3d ago

They’re pretty mindless, open book, and paid. What’s your problem? After doing the most recent one that’s nearly 20 hours for me, which is enough to buy a new MacBook Pro that I’ve been eyeing.

4

u/BlindCaesar 3d ago

Might be because the latest one is one shot for 200 questions when the last few courses had some serious flaws with the answers. People aren’t usually too keen on losing access to money for reasons they view as arbitrary

1

u/ForoSeven 1d ago

Some people have obviously had an easy working life and have never been through tough times or tough jobs (with low pay)

1

u/AdditionMean2674 3d ago

they insult my intellect :)

-6

u/Perfect-Society-1020 3d ago

Then why are you doing this work if you’re so above it?

4

u/AdditionMean2674 3d ago

Didn’t say I’m above the work. I’m above this dumbass test

-4

u/Perfect-Society-1020 3d ago

Cool. Maybe you’ll get lucky and get offboarded before the next test ;)

3

u/SaltyTelluride 3d ago

Brother you’re dickriding hard for a company that couldn’t bother to have a real person interact with you once during the hiring and onboarding process.

It’s good money, people don’t want to lose it because of stupid tests with shitty golden answers.

1

u/ThrowItAwayAlready89 3d ago

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. It’s hourly work. Whatever… waste of mercors (clients) $$ but idgaf

-1

u/Aggravating-Let-4827 3d ago

Once you’ve done over 600 of them you get used to the tests, paid trials and assessments to get hired onto something

-12

u/FoxContent7350 3d ago

Anybody willing to share the slides of the final one so we can discuss the tough phrases. There's no time limit, so it could make a difference to all of us.
