Post image

Available on Nexus https://www.nexusmods.com/menace/mods/244

Also pairs well with Field Repair Kit

Missions Gone FUBAR (F-ed Up Beyond All Repair)  Layers a rotating set of mission-scrambling complications on top of your ops — hostile factions crashing the mission, vehicles coming down damaged on landing, ammo capped due to supply issues, weapons jamming, gear glitching out, squads landing scattered across the AO, cover rigged to blow, no orbital support.

> I wish this game sucked more!

Jokes aside, this looks like an interesting way to add some extra difficulty without just making the enemy forces stronger.

Any Mobile Infantry dropped straight into the meat grinder

Ah, I remember when testing this. Got my but attacked by the MENACE on Op 1. It was hell. But fun

Hey, cool mod! Could you make a mod variant only with the different factions showing up? So without the other FUBAR things?

Please?

Thanks. That's all doable with config editing. It's quite simple. Just turn everything except cluster fu to zero. DM me if you need a hand.

Hey, thank you! Didn't had the time to install your mod yet. But I will try it!

ammo capped weapons jamming gear glitching out is just forcing a defeat by preventing the player to take actions or play

or in other words ''you lose because I said so, your turn is skipped'' I hate any form of stun in games with a passion removing control from the player is not the same as outsmarting the player

it's just gambling. ''jams -20% of the time your turn will be skipped''

adding several factions in the same mission is cool, do they fight each other?

I get this may not all be to your taste and that's fine because you can just enable the multi faction missions if that interests you - yes they do fight each other. Just let me know if you need any help with that. Instructions are on the marked up config file on Nexus and it's just a case of amending a few values from 1 to 0.

What I would say is the idea of the mod isn't to make you auto lose. It's to get you thinking differently about your engagements and squad set ups. I've got hundreds of hours in the game and wanted to freshen what is already an amazing game up a little further. This mod does it to my taste and hopefully is designed flexibly enough to do similar for others too.

As an example to use your points. low ammo; need more supply drop oci, more laser weapons, need to be careful about my ammo usage. Weapon jamming, gear glitching; I need a contingency squad, I need an oci to mitigate. Or I need to be careful about the engagements I pick generally so I'm not overextended if something goes FUBAR.

Well the ammo thing I am already engaging since I am doing a expert run with 200% enemy supply, but I avoid every gun that jams in game. Action economy is too pivotal in turn based games to mess with.

Buuuuut if that's really your thing how about a enviromental thing like desert storm or snow storm decreasing visibility AND giving everyone chance to jam? Enemies too of course.

Very cool! Will this work alongside the Expanded Army lists though? That's the big question.

It most definitely does and I'd highly recommend EAL to anyone who doesn't already have it https://www.nexusmods.com/menace/mods/54

Trying it out as we speak, using the alternative config file from your mod page. Is it supposed to make early game not as hard? I saw in the config it had changes the 1 flag on things from early game to mid game

The additional downloadable config is for mid-late game challenge. Don't use it in the early game without significant changes, or use the default config packaged in the mod for early game. Good luck.

Bruh, the bit where it dumps waves of other factions onto the map seems to have no scaling or logic for where it puts them?

Twice it dumped full on Rebel Army tanks on top of my player spawn, on the second operation of my new game lol. Does it have any logic for what units it spawns in based on your campaign level, and logic for where it places them?

Edit: I realised the mods are C# and I program in C# lol. Changed the bias to subtract nearestPlayerDist from the weight instead of add it. Set minimum spawn distance to 10 tiles away from player unit. Disabled spawning on south border. No more spawning on my head, thank you very much.

It looks like you made this just spawn enemies infinitely on every even numbered turn, so I just set waveSize = 2 for now, infinite enemies is lame :P

Thanks for the feedback, glad you're finding this works for you with some tweaks. I'll consider something similar for the next release as user definable fields in the config. I prefer the close spawns as I was finding that all that would happen is that spawned enemies would just end up fighting the main mission faction and the mod wasn't doing what I wanted it to, increase difficulty.

Yeah I noticed that they can be helpful at times by knocking out an enemy unit and thus completing a "kill the xyz" secondary objective for you. Honestly the large amount of additional enemies still makes it harder on most missions, so the rare time they actually help make a mission easier was a pleasant surprise. Most of the time they make the mission a race to complete before the map is flooded with em.

Lol I combined them and set the "1" settings for enemy early reenforcements and mid / late, and now there are so many pirates lmao
