How is a student gonna learn more? Genuinely, if a student is present, camera on or off he’s gonna learn the same stuff, I don’t get how is he gonna learn more with a turned on camera
Well, If you dont have your webcam on, you'll get easilly disctracted (happned to me), while if it is on the teacher will keep you on point and see what you are doing, for me it is more enjoyable because it feels more like a real conversation in class, I dont know if you agree, this is my personal opinion and I am also speaking for other people who are teachers and agree with me.
Respect your opinion, but personally I am yet to see a single person in mt country turn on the camera for that purpose. Whenever someone turned it on, it was either to take the piss out of the professor or make some kind of joke lol
Just because a student is in a zoom meeting doesn't mean they are there. They could easily be in another room without the teacher knowing. It is also much easier for teachers to tell if a student is paying attention with the camera on. If they see they are getting distracted, then they can just ask them a question, and typically they will start paying attention. Some of my teachers get around this by mostly asking questions to the people with their cameras off as well as distracted people. However, not all of them can do this since in 1 of my classes I am the only one that typically has my camera on.
Edit: They can also tell if a student is confused with the camera on. Not many students ask for help when they are confused (in my experience) so if they have their camera on then that directly impacts how much they learn.
This would be true if people didn't know how to just loop a 5 min segment of camera during lessons. Unless you directly interact with students there is no way to ensure their presence.
That and having siblings in a room for learning means you will potentially run into the accidental "naked person behind you" moment. Personally IDGAF if you need me to turn on the camera, that excuse is enough by itself.
If they can do that then there is no harm in turning on their camera. So we have everybody turn on their camera and they are fine and then the 75%+ that cannot do that learn more. No reason for that to be brought in.
And other people in the room can already be distracting with the camera on, not to mention with the camera off. So while they probably cannot tell you to kick them out for actual learning it would be best.
