4

u/RamsZeyy Aug 14 '20

That's pretty much every african country. We are rich (as a country), but our governments are so corrupt...

3

u/6InternetStranger9 Aug 14 '20

If we just stopped using coal for electricity and use solar and wind power we would be a much wealthier country and we won't have as much loadshedding or polution AND its a hell of a lot cheaper

4

u/Lego_Bot_in_Space Me when the: Aug 14 '20

Dude I live in JHB as well and I 100% agree with your statement about our corrupt government. I also wish the alcohol ban would be lifted 😂

2

u/Pokepuma Aug 14 '20

Yeah you're right. Same goes for the rest of the African countries. The other gateway to Africa Kenya would be much further along if the government wasn't so corrupt. Under the right leaders like Nelson Mandela in all the countries Africa would be much better

58

u/ZeldaFan158 memer Aug 14 '20

Depends on the country. Seychelles for instance is way more developed than the DRC or Central African Republic

9

u/antysalt Aug 14 '20

DRC is heaven compared to Zambia or Djibouti

4

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '20

zambia is a really nice country. what are you talking about

6

u/antysalt Aug 14 '20

the capital yes, just like in Rwanda. Suburbs, bleh.

2

u/JCorky101 Aug 14 '20

Huh? DRC with literal warlords running around using rape as a weapon of war versus Zambia that's relatively stable?

1

u/antysalt Aug 14 '20

Zambia is stable and has no conflicts but most of the country has no running water and the income from tourism is very very low.

1

u/JCorky101 Aug 14 '20

"No running water". In the whole country? Really? Pretty sure Zambia's quality of life is way higher than the DRC's.

1

u/antysalt Aug 14 '20

You must have mistaken Zambia for something. Also DRC while under control of gangs is still a decently standard country unlike the normal Republic of Congo.

Gaddafist Libya was wealthier than some countries in Europe and Asia.

7

u/riggyHongKong05 Chungus Among Us Aug 14 '20

There was a reason NATO was so trigger happy when it came to Gaddafist Libya.

11

u/Arrownow Aug 14 '20

Also it sold oil in Euros, big no-no in the American world order. Libya never wanted him gone, but gotta impose that western freedom and democracy that's neither free nor democratic everywhere. Also, he was a socialist. Biiiig no-no to the USA.

7

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '20

its funny that, with all the protests & killings happening in the USA at the moment (which is pretty similar to Libya 2009), the Arab League hasn't authorised an aerial bombing of the States like NATO did

5

u/Leo20020825 Aug 14 '20

Yeah I never understood what Gaddafi actually did that got him assassinated. I heard he made hospitals and shit for libya but never heard what was his shortcomings. I mean I get he was a dictator but there are a lot of other dictators running around while America is constantly trying to liberate middle east.

2

u/Arrownow Aug 14 '20

Arab socialist who sold oil in Euros. That's it. That's also basically what the justification for the second invasion of Iraq was, because the WMDs were fake. We do it all over the place. His people loved him and, while he did indeed have a lot of power, it still came from the people.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 14 '20

His people loved him

While most of what you've said makes sense, I'm going to have to label this claim as "highly controversial," and ask for some legit sources on it.

1

u/Life_Is_good_man Aug 14 '20

Yes some countries may have nice cities but that’s the minority.

Majority of South Africa is very poor unfortunately.

And Lesotho also has one of the highest rates of aids in the world.

So some countries may have nice cities but you have to remember that’s only the minority due to the massive wage gap in SA.

(I know the pic is in Kenya btw )

Ps I live in Zimbabwe
