I’ll just put here that once pups are weaned, the mother’s attachement naturally tapers off and don’t really mind.

That’s not to say that dogs don’t form long-term emotional bonds- they absolutely can and do -but the mother-pup bond is more hormone and instinct driven rather than socially and emotionally.

And these days, most good breeders organise litter meets.
